Morning. I hate waking up at 545 am on a Saturday.  Wtf is wrong with me.

Same exact time I woke up on the dot. I always get up at 545 and go to bed at 10. My insomnia cure was to get rid of the snorer and execute a routine.

yeah I'd like to sleep through to 7am but I can't because we switch beds at 545 so that my husband gets a few hours in a real bed. Or rather I get up and go to the couch for coffee and he gets up and goes to the bed for more sleep.

everyone here at DTF  cooks better than I do. I used to cook all the time but as each son moved out I had less and less reason to, and now groceries cost me about 1/5 what they did with two teenage boys at home. But I had no idea that cooking is a "use it or lose it" skill until about five years passed and now I'm back to things like hamburger helper and manwich as "home cooking". I should have never ever gotten out of the habit of doing everything from scratch (except pasta and usually except bread).

Mofuckers take a lot out for retirement.  Wow.

The amount taken out for any retirement plan should be determined by you.

I think it's like 6.3% taken out for mandatory retirement. I don't have my 401k or my medical plan set up yet. I plan on setting up my medical plan next week, and my 401k after I am out of training and what not.

My company matches 4% on the 401k and offers vested profit sharing. Also have a personal Roth IRA that I contribute to annually at tax season.

Max out your 401k. Do they match it?

I plan on it. Dont quote me but I think they start matching at a max of like 2% and I think it grows with my time employed by them.

Whatever it is, make sure it's maxed out. It's important. You could wind up with a nice sum come retirement time. Depending on how much the percentage tops out at and your age, we could be talking seven figures, but I would need to know the specifics.

Thats why I always maintain the Roth independently from any employer programs. I've had such shoddy retirement situations at work, if I hadn't done the Roth I'd have been stuck, but im in good shape.

There's a great book called The Intelligent Investor. It's a pretty old book, but the author was Warren Buffett's mentor. If you decide to get it, make sure you get the most recent version. At the end of each chapter it has a commentary on the entire chapter and shows you how to apply it to today's standards. Since the original book is close to 100 years old, some of it is undoubtedly outdated which is where the commentary for each chapter comes in extremely handy. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago and learned a few things that I would like to apply.
