Hearing that Enchant CD for the first time back then was something of beauty. That whole Magna Carta label was filled with such brilliant bands. One of my favorites, Altura, are no longer together. They only released one album, Mercy. If you can find it somehow, get it. If you can't, PM me. I don't know what became of any of the musicians from the band. It's something to look into, now that I think of it.

Other bands to check out from that label:
*Cairo
*Magellan
*Dali's Dilemma - they only put out one album, Manifesto for Futurism, but you must get it if you can. Matt Guillory plays on it.
*Ice Age
*Lemur Voice - Their guitarist formed Sun Caged, another great band, after they broke up. A friend of mine was Sun Caged's original drummer. He was also the first official drummer for Within Temptation.

Well that's because it's actually pretty nice (dat flute :heart ), but most black metal I've heard is pretty lame or generic.

That's because you didn't hear enough of it. I'm not black metal fan either but there are atmospheric BM bands you could like (if you like Saor). Check Thy Light - Suici.De.Pression(it's better than it sounds :P )

i don't get it. this is... fine. it's a bit flavorless but it's solid. i feel like i must be missing something about this though because it's gotten a pretty strong reception from basically everywhere that i've seen

re: Magellan / Magna Carta

I always thought of them as the best kept secret of prog.
If one can overlook a somewhat high-pitched singer, there's a lot of  :metal to be found.
A good start would be:

The title track is relentless tour de force longtrack.

Nice ozzy -  Grimmett is sadly under rated.

My first time listening to them. VERY 80's but also very entertaining. Really solid album. The only song I did not really care for was the show must go on

Nice choice. Magellan were one of my favorite finds from that label.

TMV is definitely the best band I discovered through this forum, it took some time to get into the other albums besides Noctourniquet but that was so worth it.

^ always great to see. Televators was the biggest grower for me on that album, the emotional impact after finding out more about the concept is immense, one of the most depressing Mars Volta songs.

Really liked it.. I already returned to the title track quite often but never went for the full album for some reason.

That instrumental section in Black Light Machine with the electronic glitches and stuff was totally killer dude  :metal
