listened to two Burzum records a while back. Hvis lyset was cool but Filosofem kinda bored me
literally listened to that Negura Bunget album yesterday
Ulver like a few days ago
Agalloch same
Wolves in the Throne room gave a few of their albums a listen, i like the band more than i like their music tho tbh
think i gave both Woods of Desolation and Drudkh a listen but i can't recall a single thing about them  :lol

i'll check the rest out at some point tho thanks

no clue why i'm still listening to more enslaved albums when i have nothing interested to say about them first listen
do i enjoy this? yes. can i really tell it apart from any of their other albums on first listen? no. am i rushing to get it? no.

this and vertebrae are super cheap on amazon though so odds are those two will be next after riitiir

from the one song i was sent this is not the album i was expecting. the songs are a lot more atmospheric most of the time. wheezyboy is like the heaviest track  :lol

Kept liking March of Mephisto more and more so I figured I could give the entire album a try.  ;D Quality stuff man, I kinda regret the 8 now.

10/10 album all the way (but actually March of Mephisto and When the Lights Are Down are my least favourite tracks from it. Still fantastic, but not as brilliant as the rest). It was at #16 at my favourite albums of all time list or something like that. Just incredible.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

personally I'd single out Soul Society and Nothing Ever Dies as the weaker tracks, but far from "weak" tracks nonetheless and it's a pretty great album, totally

Silly you, these are the best ones along with Abandoned (this is the best one - pure music win), Moonlight and Memento Mori.

i mean, the three songs you just mentioned are all top 5 off the album so we're not in full disagreement or something
(the other two top five songs would be March of Mephisto and the title track)

aside from a kind of annoying tambourine (i think?) throughout a lot of this
really grand, beautiful black metal stuff, lots of orchestration that helps. quite a fan of this though, yeah... powerful stuff.

oh gosh. this works so well. karyn crisis is still a great vocalist but there's no oversaturation of her voice here, the music is more diverse and interesting too, some heavy and intense moments, some quieter, more atmospheric moments... i dig this.

As a matter of fact When the Lights Are Down was one of my favorites, needless to say Mephisto was too  :lol but Memento Mori and Soul Society were also definitely up there.

i don't think this is as good as OM but it's a pretty enjoyable, interesting listen

reminder: i am judging things on just one listen because i'm stupid so i could be totally wrong and this could be even better who knows

Neither did I.  It's pretty solid none-the-less, but not what I put in the 'purchase-worthy' column
