I have to wonder if someone is even that familiar with the album if he says BAI is a ballad and then says "oh  wait, I was confusing it with a different song."

Meh. I confuse song titles on occasion.

I still confuse Take the Time and Leaning to Live (not the songs, the titles) after having listened to them for 15 years, with I&W probably being my most listened album by any artist of all time.  I also confuse Lines in the Sand and Trial of Tears.

Are we still going on about the album "only" being 70 mins ?
No, we're going on about it NOT EVEN being 70 mins!  :'(
Check out my various music projects - I’ve got concept albums, singer/songwriter, rock, metal, prog, and more coming soon:

Jeeze. I'd rather have 60 solid minutes of the best DT can come up with instead of 78 mins of  Black Clouds & Silver Linings part 2

:omg:

"Hell's Kitchen" and "average song" should never be used in the same context.

Well, that's just, like, my opinion, man! I stand by it though. Maybe even a little bit below average. HK is definitely in the bottom 50 for me.  :hat

"Now wait a (f*&#@ing) minute man!"

Just kidding, I also think that Hell's Kitchen is not that great (although the outro sounds epic as fuark in the context of something like Instrumedley).

Apparently the same universe where one of DT's most highly regarded albums, IaW, is only 57 minutes long.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I must quote that.  :hat

The same universe that considers a 6-minute song, a short song.

Would you rather have a medium amount of good pizza, or all you can eat of pretty good pizza?
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. Yes. Quality>>>>>>>>>>Quantity

I couldn't give a damn how short DT's album could be, as long as it's got some killer stuff.

Quality over quantity.

This would have been cool;

Octavarium (2005) 75:44
In The Presence Of Enemies -EP  (2007)  25:38
Black Clouds & Silver Linings (2009)  75:25

:P

But Yeah,  there are lots of people who like those other Systematic Chaos songs too.

Who cares if they're an adaptation, they sound cool, and make for interesting imagery. It certainly beats the lyrics on TCOT or ANTR.

I don't see any problem with "ITPoE" lyrics, i like also James' delivery. It's a matter of taste and i think it's one of the best JP "story like" lyrics. I can see the point why someone could dislike it, the dark master theme and being too close to the comic it came from.

In my opinion, I&W is too short, it always leaves me wanting more.

02 - Raise The Knife
03 - Hell's Kitchen
04 - Lines In The Sand
05 - Trial Of Tears

Maybe one more short song between.

DT was never the kind of band to recycle their old ideas for new albums though. I mean, okay, they had some ideas for Metropolis Pt. 2 in 1996, that hey ended up developing into SFAM as we know it, but they've never had old songs that they just threw onto new albums. It's not like they went, "Oh, we're working on Awake, let's throw To Live Forever and Don't Look Past Me" on it. And it wouldn't have worked for FII and ACOS either, because Awake had a whole different kind of sound to it. TLF and DLPM would have stood out like a sore thumb on that album. Same with ACOS and FII. ACOS has an overall much darker, more poetic tone than anything on FII.

Every DT album has something different in terms of the overall sound and mood, so sticking old songs on new albums, those songs would not fit in very well.
