Lolzeez's Top 50 Dream Theater Songs v. Numbah Won
« on: February 05, 2013, 04:01:40 PM »
YES IT'S MY TURN! GO GO GO!

Gee that's a nice intro.

Anyways enjoy my shitty write ups!

50.Through Her Eyes

Beautiful ballad. Very simple but It works.Btw I like the LSFNY version more with that guitar solo. Good stuff.

49.Where Are You Now?

Really catchy chorus. This song is so under appreciated that it hurts. Btw am I the only one who hears "No one's gonna come fuck you!" at 5:48? Ah well. Great song with a very catchy chorus.

48.Lifting Shadows Off A Dream

Love the bass lick in the intro. Anyways this is one of the songs where the lyrics are by the one and only,JMX. The lyrics here are pretty cool and I also really like Labrie's voice on this track. Not much else to say.

47.On The Backs Of Angels

When I first heard this track,I was quite neutral. I wasn't that big of a fan of the song. Now It sorta grew on me. Rudess' piano solo is awesome. It's kept short and sweet. Awesome song for an introduction to DT.

Nice batch. Can't say much about Where Are You Now, I haven't listened to it for a while. Great to see Through Her Eyes, that song is epic! Lifting Shadows probably should be lower IMO, as should OTBOA.

You're all going to have to take 4 drinks right now. :lol

I only know how two of those songs go.

And I don't listen to either of them unless I'm listening to the full albums.

And I only listen to one of those albums.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

46.In The Name Of God

Kinda overrated. Ok fine this song is VERY overrated. I just got bored of this song. As simple as that. The song is a little too repetitive for my tastes. But the guitar solo etc. are fantastic Seriously, how do they play that fucking good?!

45.Bombay Vindaloo

YUP! Did you expect to see this song? This is a great improvisation with great drum playing by Portnoy and Petrucci's guitar sounds like this is some badass soundtrack for an action movie. I also like the dude shouting "AAAAAAAHHHHH" Ever since that "AAHHHHHHH" I always do the same at any concert. Who knows? Maybe i might make it in the recording. Well probably there wont be any recording and i will be annoying the fuck out of the person next to me.  Deal with it.

44.To Live Forever

A very simple tune. In fact, the simplicity is what makes this song so enjoyable. Yes,the guitar solo/jam is awesome.

43.Afterlife

Dat unison. But seriously, the unison is amazing. I also quite like the riff. Also the chorus is pretty fun and catchy. Good stuff. Yes. Afterlife higher than ITNOG.

The only one of those I'd consider top 50 worthy is ITNOG, and I'd consider it easily top 5 worthy.

In the Name of God is great, and To Live Forever is underrated. Also great to see Through Her Eyes and Lifting Shadows Off a Dream.

42.Forsaken

I enjoy this song when I'm in the mood. When I'm not,I skip it. But I still love this song. That intro is awesome with all that piano work. And the song is just fun. Some people find it cheesy, which it is but that's what makes it so enjoyable to me. Also, the live performances are amazing for this song. Especially if James wants to dance.  :rollin

41.Karina

A very cool, heavy track. Karina really defines the Awake album. Heavier and badass. This song is really fun to listen to. JLB's vocals are a huge plus and the small instrumental section after 2:43 is awesome. KARINA WEEEEEEB!

40.Overture 1928

Awesome opener/instrumental I was going to combine it with Strange Deja-Vu but I like Overture more. SDV kinda drags it down a little. I love the transition to SDV and I also love the small solos. This song is just epic. Love it.

39.Hell's Kitchen

Great instrumental with a very relaxing feel to it. Love how it fades into LITS. Not much to say. The last minute is one of the highlights of FII.

Where Are You Now? is unbearably awful IMO, and ITNOG is way too low, but mostly the song picks have been pretty good so far - it's especially nice to see some appreciation for Through Her Eyes, Afterlife and To Live Forever.

Also, you typed the name of one song wrong - how hard is it to get Cut in a Whale right?

No, it's Karina Webb.  I've already contacted her and she said and I quote: "I am very pleased to be included in a Prague Rocque countdown."

38.These Walls

Really catchy song. One of the catchiest that DT ever made. And not catchy in a bad way. That chorus is just amazing. Yes,the intro and the outro are perfect. No seriously, they are just perfect. I just think that they could have cut the song a tad shorter. Other than that,a highlight from Octavarium.

37.The Glass Prison

Good prog metal song. Enjoyable. And yeah. The wankery is quite cool and the guitar solo is awesome. The JMX riff is also excellent. I just find this song a little overrated…

Hi Blob.

36.The Root Of All Evil

Excellent opener.  Not much else to say. This is an all out rocker. And the good thing is that the song is very consistent. From the intro to the solo section (which is awesome) this song is pure fun. Not even a drop. A highlight from an album that I have mix feelings about.

35.Beneath The Surface

Holy crap this song is touching. The song is like the credits from a movie. It just is a nice end. It closes the album nicely. Oh and the lyrics are amazing and the moog solo is gorgeous. Oh and I don't care if there's autotune. JLB sounds amazing here.

You listed 3 excellent songs, then put BTS above them?!?

I really dislike BTS. Maybe bottom 20. The middle bridge section with the synth lead is excellent, but the pitch correction kills any emotion the vocals might have had, and it's just too happy overall. It ends ADTOE with a fizzle out.

I disagree. It's far from being one of their most emotional songs, let alone "emotionally charged". The performance is what really lets it down. Maybe on the DVD it will be better though, with a live vocal that isn't over-processed.

Prepare for controversy.

34.This Dying Soul

An all out metal song. While some people dislike the out of place wankery, you still gotta admit,It's freaking cool. Also, the intro is so awesome. That guitar solo in the intro always gets me excited and the chorus is just so damn catchy. A great song from ToT.

33.Another Day

A solid ballad that doesn't bore the living crap out of me? Heck yeah. DT are good at ballads. This is an excellent example. The song is very simple and fun to listen to. The saxaphone really fits the song. I love it. There are also some intense singing by Labrie. It's quite impressive.

32.Misunderstood

A very unique song. Too bad the outro is not too good on my ears… Anyways,Misunderstood is one of those tracks that opens up as you go on. Yeah.. Pretty catchy intro and chorus. After 4:40 it kicks ass.Love the solo section. Not much to say…

31.Metropolis Part 1

STOP RIGHT THERE LAWLZEEZ! DIS SONG SOULD BEE AT LEEST NUMBAH 10!!!! WAT IS WONG WITH YUU???!!!!! Yes,the song is good but a little overrated. I enjoy the solo section but to me,the rest isn't anything that special. It kinda lost its charm for me. But yeah… Opinions sir. Opinions. Ok fine I'm being too harsh. The song has a really good solo section with an excellent bass solo. The vocals are awesome and there is no clear flaw. It's just that I got bored of the song.

I was actually gonna put Metropolis lower but It's a fan favorite and all.

Anyways,TOP 30 TIME!  :metal

Great to see These Walls and This Dying Soul. Another Day and Metropolis are also nice, although yeah, Metropolis should be higher.
