Looking for music like Transatlantic or Spock's Beard

That's it, I'm looking for some new music, and I realized that I really like that kind of music. I mean, I'd love to hear more proggy, with not much distortion on the guitars, surprising and varied music. That powerful chorus, and then that unforgettable melody, suddenly a Spanish guitar with a latin rhythm and after that some a capella verse. I know that you'll understand me  :lol

Check out the band Echolyn, particularly the album Mei, which is a 49 minute epic.

Also, Ritual is a really cool underrated and overlooked band.

I think KNH got it pretty much covered. Most of those bands are ones I would have recommended myself, especially since TA and SB are pretty much my cup o'tea.

I'll double-recommend Kaipa, The Flower Kings, The Tangent, Karmakanic, Hasse Froberg & The Musical Companion, and even add Agents Of Mercy and Roine Stolt's solo stuff (especially the blues album Wall Street Voodoo, which features Neal Morse!).

And of course, as others have said, Neal's solo out put is pretty damn good.

And definitely a shout-out for Mars Hollow and Unitopia, two of my favorite recently-new bands to come out in the last few years. MH only has 2 albums, and Unitopia have 3 with a fourth coming out this summer (a covers album, which has been said to be unlike the usual covers album).

I'd also like to throw out Frost* and Kino, as well as Flying Colors (if you haven't heard it yet!).

I responded to this thread with such vigor because when I first found Spock's Beard and then Transatlantic, I was also eager to find other bands that sounded similar and it took me a decade to find the bands I listed.  If I can save someone a few years, it's all good  :hat

Everyone has mentioned everything I know, except one:

Tomas Bodin - "I AM"

Tomas is the keyboardist for The Flower Kings, and has released quite a few solo albums, but I AM is a beautiful album, and consists of just 3 songs, each around 20 minutes. It is some of the most powerful music you'll ever hear. Up there with the best of TA, TFK, Neal Morse, SB, etc.

You might also like the band Phideaux. Their album "Snowtorch" is another great album, just came out last year.

Most of the good suggestions have been made already.  Would second/third Echolyn - Mei (and The End is Beautiful), It Bites - The Tall Ships, Karmakanic - The Wheel of Life, The Tangent (the first two albums), Apple Pie - Crossroad and FROST* - Milliontown, among others.

As for other bands that have medium or higher similarity to Spock's Beard (per last.fm), I'd add Pendragon, Kevin Gilbert, Moon Safari and The Pineapple Thief.  A.C.T - Last Epic is awesome too.
