I love how every time I see Dream Theater, I feel like it's their greatest concert ever. I think out of all the times I've seen them, Sunday's show had the most satisfying setlist. There were no so-so songs like These Walls or Costant Motion, and every time a new song started I was thrilled. I am happy that I somehow managed to avoid reading the setlists for the previous shows because it made the show much more exciting.
I was especially happy to hear Breaking All Illusions, 6:00, Lost Not Forgotten, and This is the Life because I had never heard them live before. And I agree that Test/War was one of the most kickass moments. The entire band sounded perfect as always--I don't think I've ever heard a better version of The Spirit Carries On.
I was a little disappointed with the Warfield crowd though--I was on the floor and I was surprised by how lifeless the majority of people were. I know some people treat it like a spiritual experience instead of just a rock concert, but when something as heavy as The Dark Eternal Night is playing, I don't know how you can just stand there motionless. And I thought for sure the entire place would sing along at some point, like at the end of Surrounded.
It was an incredible experience to see Marillion at the Fillmore and Dream Theater at the Warfield in a 4 day vacation to California!
