Yahoo is running a poll where people can vote for their picks for the different grammy categories. So far DT isn't doing so well at only 4%. I know it doesn't mean anything but it would be nice if we could show our support and pump up their numbers.

Can someone here elucidate what exactly one is voting on? The category is "Best Rock/Metal Performance", does that mean we're voting on how the bands are performing live? But why is the vote then tied to a certain song of theirs?

Thing is, I absolutely *hate* getting reeled into these internet rally calls to vote for a certain band, just because one happens to be a fan of said band. I have no problem voting for Foo Fighters or Dream Theater, I just don't understand what I'm supposed to vote on.

I really want Dream Theater to win, because they deserve any kind of recognition, especially after they reemerged triumphantly at this point it their career. However, looking at some of the categories and nominees, I realize just how ridiculous these awards are, and how they hold no credibility at all.

Dude, for real. I don't know the song names that well off the album, when I brought it up I was like "really? That one?!"
If they put "Rope" into the poll I would plain vote Foo Fighers. Sorry DT, but that song has a brilliance to it that DT, these days, has a hard time matching.

I think it means Best Album Performance, not live, and it is tied to a single.

Best "performance" is given to the band based on how well a song is executed as recorded, so to speak. And this can be for a live performance, as long as the performance was released on an album.
Best "album" is given to the producer for all of the stuff related to the mixing of the whole record
Best "record" I believe is given to the producer for mixing/producing related to one song
And I think best "song" went to whoever wrote it.

Could be wrong though but this is what I remember/think.

They had a separate Metal category up until this year. They combined them again. It's just a sign of the times. They separated the categories originally because Metal was one of the most popular genres in America. Now, it's not.

I love Foo Fighters but hate White Limo, I know so many people that love their tribute to Motorhead.
I hope they win for Walk, and album, just not White Limo....I guess we will see on the night.
