Derek was a fill in "hired gun" at first, wasn't he? I thought it was only after a year or so that he became an official member, from what I recall from the 5YIALT DVD. I don't think JR was trying to downplay Derek's role between KM and himself.

Yea, Derek was a hired gun for the first tour. After that he brought in the lava lamp, disco clothes etc.
