Not sure, but I think five-eight already has a forum.

EDIT:  Never mind.  I didn't realize their forum was down and this was an attempt to get info.  Carry on.

What happened?

I gotta admit, despite my initial reservations about the place, I went over there during my last ban and stayed as I was starting to enjoy the forums a lot more than I had before. And now it's gone.

When's it coming back?

I don't know how long it takes for admins to undo the damage in a case like this, but I would venture a downtime of at least a week.

What "damage?"

I was asleep, and am completely oblivious to what happened.

Hacked, huh? I figgered Thal took it down because someone made him angry.

this should not be a surprise to anyone who knows how irrational thalagyrt is. it is a god damn embarrassment that he shut down an entire forum due to something that DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE FORUM.

5/8 didn't get hacked. Thal took it down for personal reasons. I won't discuss them in public.

While I haven't posted there in an eon, Thal is probably Itchy in disguise.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

Damn, I assumed the site just got hacked.  I am completely oblivious to any of the politics over there, so I haven't got a clue.

EDIT: My reading comprehension is poor.  I guess everybody didn't see this coming.  I don't even know who Thal is, or that he owned the site.

Thal is the main one responsible for randomly changing dtf.com to five eight, right? So, yeah, no one should be surprised.

But it is disappointing.

"Hey, IRC fags. You win! Enjoy having no board. I tried to show some decency and not openly tell you assholes what your buttbuddy Zorbo thinks is socially acceptable behavior - you know, wishing death on someone's fucking child - but no, you pieces of shit pushed it. Happy now?"

What a cool guy to punish an entire community over the actions of a few people.

What's IRC?

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a form of real-time Internet text messaging (chat) or synchronous conferencing. It is mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication via private message as well as chat and data transfer, including file sharing.

Who's Zorbo?  I feel like I remember him.  I didn't really learn usernames on 5/8, because the avatars were bigger and I couldn't be bothered.

Dude, seriously.  I remember his posts about it, where he was acting like he was in tune with the will of Jesus Christ himself.  For some reason he never really explained, he knew he had to switch to a more music oriented board because the Dream Theater Forums designation was holding it back.

Now look where the two boards are.

So someone said something (extremely) dickish, as a joke, out of anger, or just generally lacking forethought. Said it away form the forum, but on an IRC channel related to the forum. And so now the forum is closed.

Well that makes perfect sense.

If anyone has anything to be bitter about in regards to 5/8, it's me, and if I can be welcoming there is no reason you should be so negative about it.

I've visited there a few times myself, seems like an alright place. Lots of discussion about bands I like, at least.

And why doesn't DTF have an IRC? We have the Facebook group, yeah, but it'd be cool. Anyways, glad to hear it's back.

What's so lol about it? It's basically a short story of what happened. In any case that's not the purpose of this thread.
