Voices.  Had to pick Voices, love the song, but honestly the entire song could be crap and as long as that guitar solo was in the middle of it, I'd love it.

LSOAD by a nipple over Scarred.

THIS.

That's the 1-2 punch on the album for me.

Btw, you didn't include Eve .

Because it's not on Awake.
It's in the first Japanese edition, so it counts as part of the tracklist, at least for me  :hat

Is it on the album proper?  Or was it a bonus disc?   (I have the Japanese import of FII, and the bonus tracks came on a separate 3" disc.  If it was one of those situations, I *still* wouldn't count it)   I also just find it hard to believe that Eve would have *fit* on the the original disc.   Awake is a pretty long album, and CD's from the early 90's weren't very stable when they were maxed out.

tbh I'm really disappointed that The Mirror isn't easily taking third place here, it's actually #2 on the album but Voices will always be popular and it's damn good too so I could care less
turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

:corn Voted for Space-Dye Vest and there was no option for 2 votes. Second choice is Lifting Shadows off a Dream.

Oh man, I love Caught in a Web, sad to see it so unsupported, but I couldn't possibly vote for it over Voices which I'm glad is well represented here as it's totally the highlight of the album! I love that Lie is the only song with 0 votes aswell.  :lol

Bonus track just for Japan, doesn't count.

I picked 6:00, but was torn between that and Erotomania.  Didn't really care for the rest of the album.

Lie.because it does not had a voice.

Another one for Innocence Faded. The gritty/throaty vocals which are all over Awake don't really work for me. Not only that IF doesn't have them, it actually features JLB's best performance ever recorded. "Callow and vain..." gives me the chills every single time (besides the vocals, I also have to credit the keyboard melody here). The outro is also special (when the double bass gets going  :metal).

The other candidates would be 6:00 and Voices. Oh, and the cymbal sound is outstanding.

PixelDream

First thoughts went out to Voices and Scarred, but I have to give Scarred the nod.

Both songs are top 10 DT material, and both guitar solos are also Petrucci top 10 material IMO. Unbelievable quality.

goo-goo

Scarred for me. Favorite DT song ever. Love everything about it. The intro, the build up, the solos, James voice, JP's guitar tone and solo...everything.

Voices. One of the first two songs I ever heard by DT (the other was Spirit). Didn't really get it when I first heard it; I liked Spirit much better. But eventually I did "get it" and realized this song is absolutely amazing! For my money this album is very strong all the way though, but this is easily my favorite.

For the record, my least favorite on this album is easily Scarred. Still don't "get" that one, I guess!

Vote on Awake :P.

I'm surprised that some other artists aren't higher than they are. Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Megadeth, Mötley Crüe, Slayer and plenty of other worthy mentions, have an abysmal amount of votes. So does Dream Theater of course but that didn't surprise me nearly as much. What's weird is that the only bands (artists) that take a clear lead are Marilyn Manson, Pantera, In Flames and Prong which has it's ties to Nine Inch Nails and Korn (the only other 2 bands with a slightly higher percentage than 1%). Seems like a weird demographic because these things normally turn into a popularity contest with no objective thought put in what-so-ever, but some bands that I thought were more mainstream don't seem to be doing so well.

AngelBack

Voices but Innocence Faded is a strong second.  Rockin' outro solo and love how the song ends with only JP's lingering guitar effect for the last split second.   Reverb?  Not a guitarist...

Just wanted to say I thought the exact same thing, pretty much word for word. And although I did vote for Awake, I will admit I only did so out of ah hur hur ... blind faith ... to DT. Because just scrolling through I saw a number of strong albums, but lets be honest both myself and 90% others aren't going to sit there and go 'gee, I don't know, I think this album was the best for x y z reasons, especially when you consider x y z factors' for every album on the list.

?

I'm surprised In Flames are doing so well in that poll, because Lunar Strain is their debut and basically their WDADU in terms of popularity among the fans.

Also, I voted for Amorphis because Tales from the Thousand Lakes is a classic and they need more attention.

RE : The Silent Man.

What's the 3rd chord in the verse ?  I always thought it was a C# half diminished - but on LALP - it looks like John is playing something else

Maybe an A9 ?

Daso

Not quite sure today. I'm torn between Voices, Lifting Shadows off a Dream and Scarred. It's an excellent album all around, still.

I'm surprised how many people love LSOAD, It's probably my least favorite from Awake, I just don't like it... :-\

I thought it was just "ok" at first, but now I really like it and would probably place it in the upper half-tier on the album.

If I could retract my vote, I would, but recently Scarred has won me over as favorite song on the album, just ahead of Voices.

Torn between Voices and The Mirror.. Went with The Mirror...
