LIVE AT LUNA PARK TO THEATRES WORLDWIDE
THE LONG-AWAITED CONCERT FILM FROM TOP NAME IN PROGRESSIVE METAL CAPTURED OVER TWO NIGHTS FROM BUENOS AIRES
(https://i.imgur.com/HPC60Zh.jpg)
NEW YORK, NY (August 15, 2013)– SpectiCast and Eagle Rock Entertainment are once again collaborating to distribute the long-awaited DREAM THEATER: LIVE AT LUNA PARK concert film to theatres worldwide beginning Thursday, September 19, 2013. This anticipated cinematic event was captured over two nights during the final leg of the band’s 15-month “A Dramatic Turn Of Events” world tour, which hit 35 countries. DREAM THEATER: LIVE AT LUNA PARK was filmed in Buenos Aires, Argentina – home to one of Dream Theater’s most ardent fan-bases.
DREAM THEATER: LIVE AT LUNA PARK runs for 160 minutes and features many of Dream Theater’s classic tracks, including, “Metropolis Pt. 1,” “The Silent Man,” “Pull Me Under,” “The Root Of All Evil,” “The Test That Stumped Them All,” “The Spirit Carries On,” and the recent track “On The Backs Of Angels.” Dream Theater formed in 1985 under the name Majesty and has remained a top name in progressive metal ever since.
“DREAM THEATER: LIVE AT LUNA PARK is a fantastic addition to our ROCK IN CINEMA series,” said Mark Rupp, Co-Founder and President of SpectiCast. “We are delighted to continue our relationship with Eagle Rock Entertainment, bringing theatrical releases of concerts by some of the world’s best musical groups to theatres around the globe.”
DREAM THEATER: LIVE AT LUNA PARK will premiere on the SpectiCast network beginning September 19 2013. For more information, visit www.liveatlunapark.com and www.specticast.com.
Furthermore, DREAM THEATER – the first self-titled collection in the GRAMMY®-nominated band’s nearly three decade career – arrives at last on September 24th. The album is now available for pre-order in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180 Gram Vinyl Double LP, and a Limited Edition Box Set. Fans who pre-order the album via the iTunes Store will receive an instant free MP3 download of the Dream Theater’s new single, “The Enemy Inside.” Preorders are also available at Dream Theater’s Webstore as well as at the Roadrunner Records Webstore.

Well I guess this explains the release delay!!
I'm still confused. Where do I find the theaters it will be playing in???
-
-
bosk1 uses press release!
It's super-effective.
-
:lol
-
hopefully some showings in England!
-
No screenings anywhere near me. Bummer.
-
Surprisingly, there's actually a showing in my continent! Unfortunately, it would take a couple of hours to drive there, and wouldn't be too convenient. Hm....
-
No showings in the UK as far as I can tell. Disappointed there's no new trailer with the actual audio, but a very cool thing to do!
-
The nearest screening for me up here in Sweden is down in Amsterdam, Holland....
-
That's also the nearest for me :lol
-

:sadpanda:
-
Yeah, if there was one in my area I'd go, but I can't justify driving several hours to go see this. Damn you college with your inordinately expensive bills!
-
No showings within a 800km radius from my home. :sadpanda:
Hopefully other dates will be added in the future.
-
No cinemas in the Frankfurt area, well, i'll have to wait for the DVD... :sadpanda:
-
Woah, I may be going after all! There is a theater 20 miles away playing it.
-
Now it's "beginning October 2013". They really know how to delay pretty much everything ::)
-
Well the Amsterdam showing is on the 21st September.

FTFY
My first one! Congrabulations!
-
OH FUCK YESS!! This is in a theater 25 minutes from me :metal :metal :metal :metal
-
Yeah BABY... Winston Salem NC here I come!!
Sweet!! :tup
-
I just realized they linked the wrong website in the poster. It takes you to a page about a dancing film called "A Dancer's Dream." :lol
-
Theater in Reading is about an hour drive for me, so I doubt I'll end up doing this. Who knows, closer to the time I might change my mind.

Do it. For us who wish they had a showing just one hour away from where we are. :'(
-
heh, it's playing at two theaters that are very close to me, of course, it's during the weekend that I have to move my mother.
-

No problem, you'll just have to change the location you're moving her to. :P

Where is it playing?
-
Hmm... Playing in a theater about 2 hours from me.... Might be worth the drive!!
-
fun fact: the pics of DT aren't from the Luna Park date (the pic of JLB is from High Voltage and the pic of JP is from Tokyo, and the rest of them have nondescript wardrobes globdammit) ;D

Yeah I noticed that MM's kick drums in the poster picture don't have the ADToE art on them, so that clearly isn't from the Luna Park shows!
-
heh, it's playing at two theaters that are very close to me, of course, it's during the weekend that I have to move my mother.
Well, just tell your mom that you need to take a little 3-hour detour.
Hey, wait a minnit... You are married, right? And I presume your mate will be helping with the move? Typically, to move someone, I'd say you need about 5 others to help. Sound about right? I'm envisioning a song here...
The mate in the mighty moving van,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour [de]tour, a three hour [de]tour.
I just made that up right now. I think it's pretty catchy. What do you think?
:3hourtour:

I thought it was mastered wrong. When can I post a proper review of this?
-
How long will it be showing in these locations? I'm thinking about going, though I also have a real concert that weekend that might keep me from going.

I have always dreamed of being able to do this with Score.
In any case, only an hour for the nearest one for me - definitely!
-
Does anyone else think that it's incredibly awesome that this is happening?? For the band that is. They must feel so proud and grateful that they finally have a record label who gives them this kind of support.
:metal :metal :metal :metal

One about 20 miles from me in Oceanside...I think I'll be going! But it's kind of odd that the showing locations are so sparce.
EDIT: Nevermind, it's like 50 miles after I plugged it into google maps. About an hour. Hmmmmm......could be worth it.
-
How do you get just a list of theaters? The search engine is lame and is only telling me there is nothing within 50 km. Well, duh. I didn't expect that there would be. But I would like to know whether there is a venue that is someplace I could rasonably see going to.

Yes, but that button only gives the search feature, which...well, read reply #46.
-
Oh I see. Well it appears that the search engine is lame. Wish they'd just give a theater list.
-
Meh, almost 300 km. :-[
However, there is that "I want to see this!" button where you can enter your email addy to "receive email updates about Dream Theater: Live At Luna Park and find out when it's available in your area". So perhaps not all theatres are listed yet.

Yep, thats what I did, hoping that if something closer to me appears, I will be notified.
-
To anybody from Bulgaria - several friends and me have started a campaign to try to reach out to our local biggest cinema chain (Arena) and try to convince them to buy the rights for one screening. Their email address is info@kinoarena.com, so I would appreciate if anybody from Bulgaria writes them down a message, telling them that we are all ready and willing to go to such a screening and could easily fill all the seats in whichever theater they decide to use.
-
Can somebody PLEASE provide the correct link where it lists the theaters that are going to be showing this? I can't find it anywhere. :(
EDIT:Sorry, I didn't read the conversations above, found it!
-
Well I guess this explains the release delay!!
Am I missing something. How does this explain the delay?
-
Well I guess this explains the release delay!!
Am I missing something. How does this explain the delay?
I assume the delay comes because DVDs are typically released AFTER something has appeared in theaters, not before. So if the band was in the works for this to appear in theaters, the DVD had to be postponed until after that took place.
-
Well I guess this explains the release delay!!

They couldn't very well put together a large movie network to show Live at Luna park by May... it got delayed so they could show it and _THEN_ release it rather than release it and _THEN_ show it.

I guess. It's just that this is hardly the new Batman movie so it's not like it has follow the conventional release process. The fact is that only a miniscule % of the population will go to see this so it doesn't really matter when it's shown in theaters.

But how many would see it if they already owned their copies of the DVD/Bluray? It's like shooting themselves in the foot.

Good point. To me, it's worth the wait. How often do you get to see DT on the big screen? Never. It's something different. And I'm psyched.

As much as I love DT, I probably wouldn't go see it in the theater if I had already owned it for four months.
-
I would be psyched, except I checked it out and the nearest location where it would be playing is in Ohio, and I live in Canada, so I'm certainly not going state side to watch a concert I have on Blu-Ray. So much for worldwide. But if something happens and they ARE going to book some locations in Toronto, I'll definitely check out DT on the big screen with big ass surround sound and all that goodness.
-
I asked this in the other Luna Park thread, but I don't think anyone really responded. Is it acceptable behavior to cheer, sing along, and pump your fist in the air during something like this in a movie theater? I assume everyone there will be a diehard fan of DT. When I experience DT, it's hard to hold back.

No.
I want my theater dead silent and I want to be able to just stare in undisturbed amazement.

Personally, if it ends up being a really cool show, I would definitely go and see it at the theater even if I owned it.
-
How awesome would it be to see this in an IMAX theater?!
Apparently there is no love for the SE part of the US...the closest place showing this is in OH (surprisingly acronym heavy)
-
Yeah BABY... Winston Salem NC here I come!!
Sweet!! :tup
I'll be there!

This. It's fine at a real concert when they're actually there. But in a theater it's pretty irritating.
-
I'm sure applause are appropriate though.

Me too hopefully. Still a little confused though. How long are they going to be showing? Is it a one time thing on the 19th or will it show for a few days/week? I can't imagine it drawing too many people outside of a couple showings.

OK. Glad I asked. I'll have to limit myself to applause between songs and a solitary "Yeah!" or "Woo!" as the words "Dream Theater" appear during the opening credits.

Any of you PA folks plan on attending the Reading show?

Well... My wife and I will get to meet a few forum members! Right ON! And Hefdaddy to boot!! Maybe we'll talk a little Stephen King while we're there... I've noticed that you read his work quite frequently.
-
I do indeed! I look forward to meeting you!
-
No wonder why the trailer had the movie voice over
-
I think it will be the one time on the 19th.
That's what I figured. It just threw me off that they have it as 'starting on the 19th'
-
what an atrocious website and/or promoter. i searched for virginia, and nothing shows up. i searched for maryland, and a theater in virginia shows up. way to keep one of the largest metropolitan areas in the dark!
:tdwn
-
It would take me 10hours to get to a screening, ain't gonna happen.
-
No theaters in South America yet... I hope they'll be added because, you know, it was filmed here n sutff :P Not that I would travel to Argentina to see it (even though I like Argentina), but still...
-

Maybe they mean starting world wide. Meaning certain other places might get it later, but still only have the one screening.
-
Definitely not going to see this. In september there will already be way too much going on for me to spend extra money to see a DVD I plan on buying the deluxe version of, that should have been out months ago. My excitement for DT in September ( and I hope Oct) will be 100% focused on the new album, Joe Satriani live, GTA5, and the new iPhone :lol
By the time October rolls around it'll be way to close to the release date and I'll still be on a high from all the aforementioned things.
-
IOS 7 baby!

Great to have some news about Luna Park! nearest cinema is Vienna and I'm from Finland. Thats a looooong way.
-
They're missing the showing in the San Francisco Bay Area! (https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=37039.msg1573814#msg1573814)

Looks like the forum may be well represented at this show!!

I will DEFINITELY be going to the Solon, Ohio showing as long as it doesn't get rescheduled or anything. I'm very excited!

Same. Most people that hear about this are just going to miss it.
-
I wonder how this is different (if at all) from the iPic showings.
-
Bosky, if it finds nothing within 50km, you can extend the search to 100km, then 200km, etc. I did that and my nearest is Amsterdam. :(
-
No shows in Italy either...
-
25 mins away from me in NJ? I think I'll go!
-
No shows yet within 150km of Ottawa. When I go to 200km away, it only lists shows in the states near me. Poopy.
-
I'm surprised two different companies are showing LALP in theaters - very cool.
-
And I'm surprised that there are no dates in South America yet. You know, the place where it was filmed. We've had the Big Four in theaters here, so we could have LALP too :S.
-
Am I missing something or are prices not available yet?
-
I just purchased a ticket and it was $13.50
-
I must be missing something then. It says to select a showtime to display available tickets, but I can't figure out how to select the showing. When I click on it, it just opens a little popup with info about the movie.
Edit... jesus, figured it out. Either I'm dumb or this website is extremely hard to use.
-
25 mins away from me in NJ? I think I'll go!
WHOA WHOA WAIT WHERE? Where in NJ? I couldn't find any.

Aw. I live about 30 minutes from Philly. And on a Monday? Nope, I'm definitely not making it to that one. :\
-
I just purchased a ticket and it was $13.50
Probably a little less than the DVD. Something to think about I guess. Could be a day of the screening decision.
-
So is SpectiCast the same thing as Digiplex? If I'm looking at a list of Digiplex showings, am I missing some or is that everything?
-
So is SpectiCast the same thing as Digiplex? If I'm looking at a list of Digiplex showings, am I missing some or is that everything?
Digiplex is a theater company (like Regal, Cinemark, iPic, etc.). There is a press release that was put out on DreamTheater.net that lists every showing and theater on it.
-
Why the fuck is this only playing on a Monday!?
-
ok thanks for reminding me, I was thinking, MAN these search engines are annoying, I want to see all CA showings at the same time and know I'm not missing any! Fortunately there are a ton within driving distance, but unfortunately the close one is an iPic which costs like $35 a person, and all the digiplex ones are much further.
And yes, damn it why the hell Monday..
Also, idk at all if this is a stupid question, but do any of these places not let under 21 in? Anyone know?
-
This may sound stupid, but the theaters will be showing 'the main concert'. Will that include everything on the list right through PMU, or is the second night considered the bonus footage on the second DVD? Does anyone know this?
-

Me too! Only about 20 minutes away!
-

I'm 95% sure they're showing just the whole first night because the setlist they posted on DT.net is-
1) Bridges In The Sky
2) 6:00
3) The Dark Eternal Night
4) This Is The Life
5) The Root Of All Evil
6) Lost Not Forgotten
7) Drum Solo
8) A Fortune In Lies
9) The Silent Man
10) Beneath The Surface
11) Outcry
12) Piano Solo
13) Surrounded
14) On The Backs Of Angels
15) War Inside My Head
16) The Test That Stumped Them All
17) Guitar Solo
18) The Spirit Carries On
19) Breaking All Illusions
20) Metropolis Pt. 1
and it said it was 160 minutes on one of the websites
But again, I still don't know if we've ever ruled out that just because the main set listed on the DVD was the set of the first night, that none of the recordings were from the second night for the songs that were repeated. But still, that doesn't change that they won't be showing those extra 6 songs from the second night.
-
So who all is going to be at Marketplace Cinema in Winston-Salem next Thursday at 7:30?
-
Bought two tix for Pasadena. $58. Appears that this is more than just an ordinary movie experience, as the Pasadena theater looks like it has waiter service at the seats.
-
Still no screenings anywhere near South America, the place where it was filmed. I know it's probably our local producers fault, but I actually got to see The Big 4 screening right here in Rio de Janeiro. Granted that it probably had more people wanting to see it due to Metallica and Megadeth's popularity + other people who like Slayer and Anthrax (like I do.) I'm pretty sure the Argentinians would love to watch it too, and they deserve it.

Still no screenings anywhere near South America, the place where it was filmed. So who all is going to be at Marketplace Cinema in Winston-Salem next Thursday at 7:30?
Possible, but unlikely. That's 2.5-3 hours drive for me. Not good for a weeknight.

I would love to go to the ones nearest me which would be Yonkers or White Plains, not sure if it's wise to start meetup threads for this or just organize in a single thread? I'm going alone, so it'd be cool to be among board company!
-
I will be at the Pasadena screening on Sunday 22nd at 3pm. Folks in Los Angeles should buy tickets quick because its a specialty theater with only about thirty seats. I don't think there are any other venues screening this in the LA area.

Is that why the tickets were so expensive? When I saw that someone paid $29 per ticket, I couldn't believe it. I'm hoping the Digiplex showings will just be the price of a regular ticket. I would think they would be!

Yea the one in Pasadena is like $30 (Actually I thought it was 35?) and that's the closest one to me. The digiplex ones are a couple hours away, but they're only like $12, so I'll probably be going to one of those, if I can go.
-
@2Timer - The Digiplex showings should be much cheaper. I've been thinking about purchasing tickets online since they are already available for the Digiplex in Solon, Ohio, and they are approximately $12 or $13 dollars per person.
@TheAtliator - I would gladly pay more to go to that iPic theater, check this video out! Although I don't think you are 21, so the joys of alcohol while watching a movie may be lost on you :lol

So who all is going to be at Marketplace Cinema in Winston-Salem next Thursday at 7:30?
My wife and I will be there... looking forward to IT.
BTW Hef, I have a fairly good sized S. King library... if you can think of any of his volumes that you haven't read but would like to read, let me know and I'll bring them to you.
-
Are people under 21 allowed at iPic? And does the $29 ticket come with food (i doubt it) or is all food extra like a regular movie theater? Not that I would really chose to eat while watching LALP, but if I could before-hand..
edit: $29, Idk where I got $35 :P
edit again: Found a video to answer my questions. It comes with popcorn, and service to your seat if you want to buy more Squilliam Fancyson food and not just drinks, but beverages.

I expect full reports for us in less fortunate countries

Hey, man!
I appreciate it, but I actually have pretty much all of them.
I will be wearing my Radio City Music Hall shirt. I can meet you guys out front if you want.

Thanks, Shadow. That makes me feel better. I'd really hate to spend more to see them at the movies than I could spend on a concert ticket :P

Don't forget to chime in with the details. I'm especially curious about two things: How does JLB sound and can you tell if anything was overdubbed, and what is the new opening song/track?
For those of you that can't make it to any showing, keep an eye on LadyObscure.com. I'll be writing a mini-review and article about this after the Monday showing.
-
Got my tickets, VIP :D. 16 bucks each. Can't wait to see Mangini's drum solo on the big screen. !(*@&

OK, for anyone coming to the Winston-Salem showing tonight, I'll be the bald awesome guy in the Radio City Music Hall shirt. Please introduce yourself. A glorious time will be had by all.

Given JLB's nickname and all, I found it ironic that apparently today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Oh and anyone going to the showing at the ipic in Redmond, say hi. I'll be there with a buddy from work and possibly two other friends.
-
I'm pumped. Less than 4 hours! Anyone going in South Florida?

I'll be at the Dallas show.

Because of the new site at dt.net, the old link to the theater list is no longer working. You can see the new one here.

OK, what with just watching once and not having it on hand to refer to while typing, I'm not sure how detailed I can be, so here are my impressions.
It is very, very good.
It is loud as crap, especially JP.
I thought all of the ADTOE songs translated very well to the live setting, except for This Is The Life. I love that song, but I don't think it translated as well.
All of the uptempo aggressive metal songs were friggin' MASSIVE. Especially The Dark Eternal Night. Holy crap.
James LaBrie was on FIRE. He sounded incredible.
Mike Mangini is a puzzle in a way. He plays with an incredible passion that is infectious and great to see. And he is seemingly superhuman. I mean, I play drums, but he and I aren't doing the same thing. It's like a little kid who knows addition and subtraction watching someone perform a differential equation. I mean, wow.
But he has such efficiency of movement that some of the real hard things he is doing don't look as hard as they really are. It's weird. But cool!
6:00 had a great groove, Mangini nailed that.
A Fortune In Lies was probably the best I've ever heard it.
The Spirit Carries On was good, but it is by default the least of the recorded versions.
I absolutely loved the acoustic set (The Silent Man and Beneath The Surface), the string quartet really added a lot. Fantastic.
I also, unexpectedly, loved all three solo spots (although JR accompanied JP, so not sure if it's technically a "solo" lol). JR's was an improvised piece on piano; JP's was really all over the place regarding style and technique, but still cohesive; and Mangini's was, without a doubt, the best drum solo I've ever seen. It wasn't just a collection of drum tricks like most solos are. It seemed to be an actual composed piece of music, that was complete of itself, not needing any other instruments. I mean, of course he showed off his impressive skills, but it was extremely musical, and not just wanking.
The jam at the end of Metropolis was a lot of fun. Didn't expect that.
Overall, at the beginning of the concert, there seemed to be fairly equal coverage of the different band members, but the farther it went, it seemed to gravitate toward mostly JR and JP.
Also, JP seemed to get louder as the show went on, oftentimes to the detriment of the other members (especially JM :( )
I'm sure there was something else I wanted to mention, but it is escaping me now.
Overall, it was fantastic. Can't wait until it is released on Blu-Ray in November. Great to see it with old friends and new. Great to meet vtgrad, really classy guy and fellow longtime fan!
-
I saw the showing last night and it was fantastic. Here are a few comments I have:
-Mike Mangini was on some other level that you can't even understand from being at a live show. The way he moves around the kit is unique and incredible to watch. The drum solo was extraordinary. Once highlight in particular was a simple snare drum roll that probably exercised a few demons.
-The ADTOE songs came to life so much more than on the album. The dvd brings that album up a few notches for me. They were all highlights and really well played.
-James was hilarious as usual...his banter was especially awkward and cringe-worthy... just the way I like it.
-The sound quality was great in the theater. The drums really punched and cut through, while everything else was clear. It sounded very full. The playing was crazy. I can't really believe how talented these guys are even though I've been a fan for 10 years. They keep getting better and better.
-
So here is the Prog Snob review of the showing in NYC.
I arrived at 7:30 and my friend was waiting outside. Right away we both noticed something disappointing which could be part of the reason for the small amount of people that actually were in the theater. There was no advertisement at all on the theater facade nor were there any posters on the outside or inside of the theater. Where was Dream Theater's PR enforcing this? Once I got past those two details, the night was almost perfect from that moment. From the deep guttural moan of the shaman to the last note of Metropolis, we were taken on a two hour plus journey in and out of the band's eleven album collection with only Falling Into Infinity, Train of Thought, and Black Clouds & Silver Linings being left out (are the guys hinting at something...probably just me?). Some of the pleasant surprises were A Fortune In Lies and Surrounded, the latter being the best performance I've seen of the song in years.
The band was tight and on fire. The energy ignited the surrounding air awakening the dedicated South American fan base. One can easily see why this city was chosen to be filmed for the live release. You could read the passion, pleasure, and appreciation in their eyes. Our teary-eyed fan made her appearance in The Spirit Carries on to no surprise. That song moves me every time I hear it. I think this performance of the song might actually top the one on Score. The only other disappointment during the night was how low Jordan seemed to be in the mix. Integral parts in where you knew the keyboard should have been in the forefront were dampened. Casting that aside however, Jordan seemed flawless as usual. James' appreciation for him was a really touching moment. As for James, this was easily his best live performance that I've ever heard. Being an avid collector of their live material, that is saying a lot. His voice is back! For a man who just reached the half-century mark, I am truly impressed. Mike Mangini proved why he is the perfect fit for this band. Him drum solo was mind-blowing. He has such passion and enjoyment when he plays and his facial expressions prove this. JP once again showed us why he is the king of progressive metal guitar and JM, while not as lost in the mix as Jordan, was his usual self letting those lightning speed fingers complement the other band members. The interaction with John and James was great, even funny at times. Maybe it's just me, but I sense a bit more relaxation in James since the last tour.
All this being said, I am sure I'll want to add something I forgot later on. I am truly looking forward to this release and will probably annoy my family with it watching it day after day until they finally decide to hide the disc.
-
Oh, the new ending for The Root of All Evil was cool. And the transition from On The Backs of Angels to War Inside My Head was sick.
-
Oh wow.. Sounds like one helluva show!! Thanks for the reviews guys.. Greatly appreciated...

Lost Not Forgotten = :metal :metal :metal
acoustic set was awesome. But the chairs they had for the strings were NOT for musicians. They were those plastic patio chairs that are kind of deep an angled so you are almost forced to sit back in them. Plus they had arms! Had to have been uncomfortable playing in those chairs.
-
I'm really, really excited for Monday. I feel bad for those that can't go :( I suppose its better than having to miss a concert since at least this will be available for purchase in less than 2 months.

There were 4 of us sitting in the third row from the front. It was really good and all band members were at the top of their game. Time just flew by. Left us wanting more at the end. Looking forward to NA tour dates!

I'm so psyched to this tonight! John Petrucci lives in my area, so maybe he will be attending with his son or something. Would be awesome to see him play air guitar to himself!

We must have been behind you. We were in row 4. I don't know if it was because of the theater setting, but I found some of the production a bit distracting. Oh and Mike's drum tech looking like he is asleep behind him for the whole show is a bit distracting lol
-
Yeah, I know what you mean. We were talking about that after the show. I'll tell you what though, the musical performance sure made up for it. That's the important thing. ;)

I just had a five-minute chat with John Petrucci before the local screening of the Lunka Park DVD.

Did you mention being excited about the live chat tomorrow?

Saw it at Ipic in Illiniois
Never been to that theater. It was awesome! Had a pillow, blanket, beer, food service, recliner chair and best of all my best mates and DREAM THEATER!
Probably one of the best experiences I have had at a theater!

Just got back from the Worcester, MA showing. Thoughts:
Was played quite loudly. As others have mentioned, the guitar dominated the mix, and was very visible in even its most subtle moments. However, I think it's drowning out of other instruments was partially a factor of room acoustics, as high guitar notes generated nasty reverb that simply wouldn't be permitted on the final record.
Overall though, the recording quality seemed fantastic. On quieter songs, it honestly sounded like a studio recording. Bass and Drum were more visible on many songs, the ADTOE ones in particular, than their studio counterparts.
The acoustic set was great, with the string quartet really adding to the songs.
All solo spots were very good, as was the Metropolis extension
Camera work was by far the best of any Dream Theater DVD. Lots of really cool overhead shots, and great editing.
James was absolutely on fire.
There are several dozen GIFs of Mangini's face just begging to be made, which rival anything in the LaBrie thread.
-

HOLY CRAP!! What did you talk about??
-
just got back from Oceanside showing - it was amazing!
the theater wasn't the best, and the sound was actually not loud enough - but seeing it on the big screen was priceless!
and James really was on fire!
I loved being able to watch JR from above.
Now I can only dream that Score will be available on such a venue
-

Quoting Hef here...
I've got to say... with all honesty... Mangini's solos was OUT OF BOUNDS (to quote Guy)! I could not agree more with Hef's assessment; he (Mangini) makes this guitar player want to take up the drums! I have never... NEVER... seen such speed, groove (who says he can't groove!), and musicality in a drum solo. Also, his facial expressions are priceless... true metal and you can tell that he is having the time of his life! And his one-handed grooves have no comparison... if anyone thinks that his one-handed opening to TDOE during the auditions was impressive, your feet will come out of your socks when you see this solo. I just cannot say enough about this guy!
I'll add this comment as well... they are having a great time together as a band; they do not act like men in their mid-late 40's/early 50's. They're acting like a band that's just been signed and they are truly having an awesome time on stage! It transfers to the audience.
Hef, it was wonderful to meet you as well; I appreciate the compliment (especially from Hef, the definition of classy calling me classy :omg:). It's always wonderful to meet fellow DT fans (especially long-time fans) and to have a truly memorable time just sitting in a Theater and enjoying the Dream (terrible pun completely intended).
-

Yeah, no doubt! Great to meet you as well!
If DT happen to come to Virginia or NC on their upcoming tour, let's meet up again!
-
I guess I don't have much to add, except to agree that JP was way too loud in the mix. I thought that totally killed BITS; to me it just sounded like muddy noise because of him being almost the entire mix.
One thing I did really take notice to in particular...after JP's lead in TDEN, did you guys notice his face when he was singing backups? He looked possessed! I guess it was probably because of all the adrenaline of just coming out of that kick ass solo. I just thought it was a really cool emotion to see.
Also...my son, my friends and I were the only 5 people in the theater. It was sort of disappointing, but at the same time it was like we had our own private screening.
-
ONLY 5 IN THE THEATER??? :omg: that's awesome/terrible!
-
Saw it last night in Edgewater NJ. My review is basically this in a nutshell.. I'm going AGAIn november 11th lol.
IT WAS FREAKING INCREDIBLE. Amazing, mind blowing!
This is the life was AWESOME on this blu ray. The guitar was so amazing life.
I mean they played metropolis, A fortune in Lies and Surrounded in the same set. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal
Can't wait to go again!
-
I went to the showing in Bloomsburg, PA yesterday. I honestly expected to be the only person there but I was one of four that showed up. Bloomsburg is a college town and I have yet to meet another DT fan in three years here, so I wasn't surprised about the mostly empty venue.
I agree that the guitar was a little too loud; I'm guessing that's due to the theater's speaker set-up. It had a real "rock and roll" feel to it though and that made the concert exciiting. The show itself was fantastic...great performances from all members. James in particular really shined. The two songs that stood out to me were A Fortune in Lies and 6:00. There was just something special about those performances and will probably be my go-to live versions.
Also, the metropolis jam was fantastic.
-
Bloomsburg, eh? Do you ever get to the Selinsgrove area?

Yep my family goes there for red robin once in a while :)
BTW, I want the box set but it's too expensive for me...does the Blu-ray version include cds?

Anyone going to the Toronto screening? JLB will be doing a Q&A. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.
-
Let me know when you're going to Red Robin again, if you know in advance. It'd be cool to meet someone else from board. Maybe I'll just happen to have a gig that night too that you could check out!

Where the heck do tickets go on sale? I checked the main Luna Park website, and nothing is listed. The actual movie is listed on the Cineplex site, but it says there are no tickets available. Perhaps they'll just go on sale later today.

My daughter is 3 but she has a speech delay so she doesn't say much, but if you say Red Robin to her she says "yummmm".
I know, random, but it made me think of that.

It's Oct. 5th.
I called the Cineplex main office with my concern, and after looking into it, they'll call me with an answer.
Tickets were supposed to go on sale today, but it's not even on their special events calendar.
Let's keep each-other in the loop about the Toronto show, mmmkay?

Wow this necro lol
Huge 2013 vibes. This was a nice experience, I got to see it on a theater back then. To me it's one of JLB's best performances, although I never loved the mix. Shame this hasn't been released in streaming platforms.

He does have some great moments on this one. I love his scream the end of Pull Me Under. His banter is bad on this one though. The Dark Eternal Night for one: "This one is off Systematic Chaos, here we Goooooooooooah" Mangini drum solo: "Here he is everyone, the man under the kit... monstrous kit... MIKE MANGINI!!! BUENOS AIRES!!!
The ADTOE tour had one of their coolest stage setups, in my mind. The light show got kinda dumbed down in some stops, but it was so unique. Not the biggest fan of the screens, but it was different and made it feel like it was unique to DT
-

Still is. I’m currently watching it. On the Roku channel, just search for it and it will appear on the automatic titles to the right of the screen.

I was disappointed by this necropost. By the thread title, I thought this meant Luna Park was being put back into theatres once the pandemic is over. That would be cool.
Oh well. I have the Blu-ray in my PC's drive right now, but I decided to watch Bucharest instead. Luna Park is pretty great, though; lots of energy, cool setlist, JLB's performance rivals Score, the strings & acoustic section is very cool... Very good DVD. I do have a few gripes with the technical side (whose idea was it to compress JLB's voice so heavily in the acoustic section? Why is JM often so quiet? Also, why did they relegate so many songs to "Bonus tracks" that could have easily gone in the main feature?), but same goes for 5 Years, Bucharest, and a bunch of bootlegs I love, so whatever.
