Hm. You're right on paper, but something about me still kinda disapproves. Maybe I just like the enthusiasm. Seems a bit dicky to burst his bubble. Clearly he's not been dissatisfied yet. "It's Dream Theater, of COURSE it'll be fantastic" is a really pleasant, healthy outlook. Lovely, should be more fans like that.

I guess it just strikes me as bastardly to take issue with such an upbeat, completely inoffensive statement. Talking down to him because he's really satisfied. Even if triad is technically right.
It's the fanboy in you.

Honestly, one of my favorite things about Dream Theater is how diverse they are.

Then you must like bands such as Devin Townsend and Pain of Salvation, right?

Not so much Devin, but yeah I love PoS.

PlaysLikeMyung

After a few listens, I'm not sure I like it.... My question is: was John Myung even in the studio for this? I can't hear him anywhere. I think I'm just hearing Jordan...

ddtonfire

I'm enjoying the wah on the bass!

You can hear JM just as much as you can LaBrie.

I can see where you're coming from, but as far as I can hear, the bass is present, but you have to make quite an effort to make it out, which is a shame. And the distorted bass part with the wah in it is obviously JR (since MP posted about it on Twitter).

But I would be lying if I said that I didn't wonder myself if JM actually was in the studio as well.

Hmm, second listen, and so far doesn't do much for me either. Very thrown together.

Upon closer listen, I stand corrected. All of this is true. On every single DT record, I can hear JM just fine (and I don't understand people that say they can't), but he's barely audible here. Even worse, he's barely present. This is especially apparent during the unison/harmony section - it's painful and lacking. For any song to be convincingly heavy, it's all about the bass.

I got bored and remastered it in Logic to get more bass. It sounded a bit better, but there's only so much you can do. This is like DT's ...And Justice for All. I'm sure it'll be awesome in concert, though.

So according to MP, Raw Dog is supposed to cut off at the end.

From his Twitter:

"To all my "Twitter Twats": Yes, the Chile show is still on...and yes, Raw Dog is supposed to end that way! (Remember Pull Me Under?)."

hefdaddy42

OK, but what does Pull Me Under have to do with Raw Dog?

They both end the same way, obviously.

*sigh*  Because Images & Words is a concept album about dogs.  Do we really need to go over this again?

No, you're thinking of Images & Turds.  Which is a concept album about "picking up" after your dog.

Yeah, it's just so clever when you abruptly end a song.

Ben_Jamin

If what i imagine those samples to have been, the ending would make a lot of sense, it's just abrupt like something else is gonna happen but then a fade out.

Raw Dog is intensely meh.

You changing your avatar back pretty much threw me off entirely for a minute.
