DarkEternalNight

They just played it before the current song and I missed it!

sonatafanica

I'm listening too. Lamb of God and Five Finger Death Punch suck serious ass.

Bombardana

OsMosis2259

ive been waiting for the longest time... i heard one of the songs from the EP but still no DT

Chagny

I tuned into the radio station. So far I've only gotten through As I Lay Dying's "The Sound Of Silence" and Metallica's "Eye Of The Beholder"

:metal

I just heard it a few hours ago too on the AOL site. It's shredding and brutal like MP said and there were some cool bass parts. I can def. hear the meshuggah meets LTE part.  Oh the sample from the amazon site actually sounded pretty cool within the full song and it's only in the middle of the song. It's not really the main riff.

I HEARD RAW DOG!!!!!!!!!

- Not the very beginning. I had the window silent and minimized while I did something else.
- I turned it only like half a minute in and there was some kind of reasonably cool riff playing to introduce it.
- Then there's the part we heard in the Amazon sample. It's not anywhere near the coolest part of the song, so don't let it discourage you.
- It evolves into a really cool groove with really interesting keyboard/bass action going on.
- It busts into the solo section. JP rips out a preposterously good metal solo, followed up by two fairly good Rudess solo, and one more awesome Petrucci solo.
- Then there's a moment kinda reminiscent of The Dark Eternal Night, but way better.
- I don't want to give away how the final part goes. I don't have a good way of explaining it without ruining it.

Overall - Raw Dog is a more than worthy addition to the DT instrumental pantheon. The riffs are brutal. It's fun to listen to. And it's honestly one of the most creative songs DT's written in a long time. I really didn't expect what I got, but in a good way.

And, of course, I just have to mention that Petrucci once again proves he's still got it on guitar. His riffs are so good.

DarkLord_Lalinc

The ReaPsTA has spoken. I'm utterly excited about this.  :D

Dark Master Of Sin

AOL radio, play raw dogs now, I beg you. :( I've been listening for two hours now.

I can't get the "meshuggah meets LTE riff" out of my head!

Dark Master Of Sin

Oh! I know how you feel, the entire feel is just perfect.

Holy shit this song is heavy. Much heavier than I was expecting, and I was expecting something pretty heavy.

Honestly, even though they've gone heavy before, this definitely felt like new ground for them. I like it.

JP really knew how to use the dowtuned 7 string. Didn't serve as justa  gimmick, really helped mold the tone.

Thoroughly agreed. I wish they'd start putting out a slightly shorter-than-usual album every 12-18 months and alternate between their classic prog style exhibited on SFAM and the albums before it and make the other albums heavy as shit to show the modern metal world that you can be balls-heavy and have substance.

I like Meshuggah, Scar Symmetry, Lamb of God and numerous other newer metal acts but it'd be awesome to see them all step it up by taking a step back, looking at their product and trying to squeeze in every ounce of "Wow!" possible.

Quadrochosis

Raw Dog is sick, definitely a different style of DT, but cool nonetheless.

I want to see more.

ZBomber

Very interesting instrumental. Its 2 AM so I played it kind of quietly... I'll have to listen to it at max volume tomorrow.  :metal

Is this just gonna be a digital download or will there be physical copies? (I'm sure this was already answered earlier in the thread)

Meh, I think that between SC, BC&SL and now Raw Dog, I'm about ready for DT to try something different and move back in the Prog direction of their Prog--Metal pendulum.

I totally know what you mean, but dang. The stuff JP's been doing with downtuned guitars lately has been really good. I need my heavy metal sludge injections!!!!
