Frankly, that's even better than a calendar. Not only does it remind you on the days leading up to the event, but the scarring will be a permanent reminder of the good times you had on March 2nd.

(Although you will have to live your life with "MARCH 2ND RAW DOG" on your face, which is a pretty bizarre set of words.)

BlobVanDam

Much more befitting than a mere calendar. What's the worst fate a calendar can bestow upon me? A paper cut? I scoff at the thought of such a weak reminder. But what could be a more metal reminder than carving into one's own forehead? Nothing, I say!

For "us" their fans, or for "us" DTF.org

Because it won't be the latter.

I'm fairly certain he meant for the fans

It seems like something Mike would do.

I hope The Throat Of Winter has at least one long-ass growl in it.

Well, on a God of War soundtrack, it's hardly going to be Damnation II.

Akerfeldt comments on Opeth's track: https://www.metalunderground.com/news/details.cfm?newsid=52544&comments=1

"I just finished and approved the mastering of a new song I wrote called ‘The Throat of Winter’. I wrote it for that game, ‘God of war’ that we're supposed to be included in, or however that works. Is it a digital album? I don't know how that shit works, but it's done anyways. Hell, I'm still with my turntables (got 3 of them) and right now I'm playing a Aussie original of ‘High voltage’ by AC/DC.

"Song is very odd, it's good I think, or for my taste it is, but even I can understand it's very....odd! Produced and recorded it from scratch and I'm happy with the sound if I may say so myself. Fred laid down a killer acoustic solo and Per laid down an amazing twiddly tweet moog solo. It's not a very metal song, I'm saving up for that..later.....yet it's got a metal ‘mentality’, or what I remember metal used to do to me. I can feel it, even though it's not a ‘metal’ song per definition. Anyways, if you hear it I hope you like it.
From Akerfeldt's description, it does sound Damnation-esque actually :P

Fair enough, although I will wait until I hear it before I judge.

Oh, "The Throats of Winter" because Mikael is known for this guttural voice sound.

I wanted to put /sarcasm green, but I thought it was self implied. Guess I was wrong.

On a somewhat related note I love how Mikael explains things :lol

Am I right in thinking the DT one is going to be an instrumental? I think I remember that being said when it was first announced.
If that is the case, I would be extra interested if it was all instrumental... Although new DT and Opeth is always welcome!

i am more anticipating james labrie's "screaming and yelling".

Quote‘Raw Dog’ is Dream Theater’s instrumental offering, and it begins with a grinding, fearsomely down-tuned riff that strays from the band’s usual style. This opening leads into a galloping section of mid-tempo thrash, followed by a riff in what sounds at first like the whole-tone scale (1-2-3-#4-#5-b7), but at times includes a natural 4th and a natural 6th. Petrucci makes good use of this unusual harmony with a memorable ornamented motif. After a ripping trade-off with keyboardist Jordan Rudess, he leads the band through a dizzying groove that harkens back to Systematic Chaos’ ‘The Dark Eternal Night.’ Dream Theater also deserves credit for referencing the God of War score when towards the end, in the reprise of the original riff, Rudess breaks out a choral patch that evokes the grand choruses used by Chris Velasco and other composers in the first game.

I'm impressed by the use of the game's theme mentioned toward the end of the song, but some of that description scares me a little.

But whatever.  I'm sure it will be fun.

Super Dude

A little disappointed by the appearance of yet another keyboard-guitar trade-off, but the rest of it sounds mind-blowingly awesome.

If it ends up being basically an instrumental TDEN, I'm gonna fucking love it. :hat

Sounds super fun to me. As a fan of literally every DT song, I can't fucking wait.
