WISH LIST for Parasomnia tour!

Not really a wish list, but my guess would be -

Set 1 - Parasomnia

Set 2 AA Suite (could see these flip, flopped too)

Encore -

Peruvian Skies
Dance of eternity
Wait for sleep / Learning to Live

Would love ACOS, but that's a tall task for JLB.

My top picks based on what I think could be likely mixed with what I really want:
-ITNOG
-Take Away My Pain
-Misunderstood*
-S2N
-Moment of Betrayal OR Our New World

I put a * by Misunderstood because if it were completely up to me, I think I would slightly prefer getting The Glass Prison from that album instead.  But I'm just not thinking it is as likely.  I know they've said it is hard to play, and that's a big reason they didn't bring it back in the past.  And if they are serious about doing the 12SS at some point, they will probably save it for that.  But that being said, I think it could be a likely candidate.  If/when the time comes to do the 12SS, I tend to think it will either be a single show or a very limited number of dates on a larger tour (e.g., they do it on the second night of 2 night stands in L.A., N.Y, and London).  In that case, I could see them keeping a song from the suite in the main set, and maybe even rotating a couple of songs.

As far as my personal wish list, they played a BUNCH of it on this last tour.  I'm so glad I got to see Octavarium, The Mirror, SOC, and Constant Motion, as those were big wish list songs for me.  Bummed they cut Home and were rotating Panic Attack, as those were two others, so I guess I'm out of luck and may never get to see those.  (I'm not overly bummed about Home since they played it on the d/t tour)  If I get most of the above on the next leg, along with what they did on this leg, I would be over the moon.

I wouldn't mind ACOS either, but I'm not counting on two 20 minute epics in one show.

One thing is for sure whatever the setlist looks like on paper it's going to be a different animal live.

The difference between reading a setlist and attending the show is the same as reading the entire plot of a movie and watching it.

Has anyone wondered about the possibility that maybe the band has a second new album dropping later this year and that the tour later this year will feature both Parasomnia and that new next album both in full?  You never know.  It could explain why it took them much longer than expected to release just Parasomnia.

Zero chance I'd say, but maybe that would be the golden occasion to make the companion to Parasomnia: a trippy, proggy album about weird and tranquil lucid dreams, after the heavy album about nightmares, here comes the prog mellow album about nice dreams!

I would love to see Dream Theater make a really progressive album again, but I think it would be more likely to be a prog one.

High chance the next album is more prog. There is a tendency to make an album that has some contrast with its prior. It's not 100% of the time but you have to wonder about the reception to a Parasomnia follow up that offers little differentiation.

I'm pretty confident Mike will pick some cool songs to go with the Parasomnia set. I just wouldn't be thrilled if they did Parasomnia and the 12SS in the same show. I would be interested to know what anyone thought of seeing it live with Mike Portnoy's Shattered Fortress band.

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed The Shattered Fortress(the song) in 2014 when they played it, but I also remember seeing Repentance in New York back in 2008 and it was kind of a slog(and that was even with it being a cool unique DT moment).

Maybe a cool thing would be a setlist that has Glass Prison and Root of All Evil/This Dying Soul or Shattered Fortress(it would rotate from night to night) and then they do a couple shows where they advertise it's going to be the whole 12SS, so the people who really want to see it can go. Then the rest of the tour still has some of the 12S songs that fans really like, but not the whole thing.

While I would really like them to play the "prog-twin" of Parasomnia...aka..Six Degrees of Inner Turbolence! (the disk)
And I would also love them to play some Mangini stuff..

Set 3) Beneath the Surface (the "connection" with Parasomnia being the water drop!) + Breaking all Illusions

The 12-step suite?  Heck no.  Repentance is the worst song on a DT album, and TDS is just meh.  Root is fine, and TSF is a nice summary of the songs, but I don't really need to hear either of them again.  I saw TGP on the 8VM tour, but I wasn't a big fan.  My opinion has changed significantly since then, so that's the only 12SS song I really wouldn't mind seeing.

On top of my opinion about the individual 12SS songs, we know we're getting Parasomnia in its entirety, so playing the 12SS would take up most of the rest of the concert, and I don't want a show that's basically only two things.

Goodness gracious, no.  I love The Glass Prison and like the other four songs to varying degrees, but listening to them all in a row is a slog.

I thought the Shattered Fortess show was the best Dream Theater concert I ever saw... up to the show I saw in Wallingford a couple weeks ago.  It was AWESOME, and while I think I'd rather have a slightly more varied setlist for the Parasomnia tour, if they played Parasomnia and the 12SS, I wouldn't be any less excited to see the show.
