I'm waiting to hear back from my friend to see if he can get the days off to buy our tickets. If he can, we're doing a sort of half and half type of trip. Gonna be staying at an Air B&B, my other friend got one in Denver for Babymetal and it was nice.

Here's hoping he hits me back soon, looking at a spot that's not too bad.

Dreamtheater.net shows several shows as sold out:  Philly, Raleigh, Atlanta, Chicago, Northfield (OH), Montreal, Boston, DC and NYC.

Odd that Montreal is sold out, but Toronto isn't even close.

Orchestra and pit are sold out for LA.  Looks like the 200 section is only about 50% sold.

Wheeling, WV has tons of good seats available for less than $100.

In Toronto, they have been booked into a hockey arena that seats 8,000. They were never going to sell that many tickets. Not sure why this was done. Historically they have played Massey Hall or Meridian Hall, both of which are 3,000 seats or so.

They clearly went bigger this time.  Some spots it worked out, others not as well. It seems like generally it's been good though turn outs though and seems like at least some spots are turning out better than ever before.

The Met in Philly is 3.5 capacity and sold out.

I believe it's called The Elgin, but I'm not local.  It is, however, on the way from my hotel to RCMH, so cool!

Never been but it's close by so that makes things simple.  Looking forward to it, but first.. philly!

The preshow in Philly has now been moved back slightly to 4:45.  An ending time of 6 PM has now been added as well for the 'official' get together.

The slight problem is that the foundation normally opens at 5:30.  So much for anyone who wishes to get together before the preshow starts.

Weather forecast:  dry, high 44, low 27

FWIW:  the Learjet medivac plane crash last Friday night was nine miles to the north.  The tanker explosion two years ago was nine miles to the NE.

I know I'm getting down to NYC well in advance of that.  I'm not sitting in my hotel waiting for The Elgin to open.  I know a bunch of places in NYC, I know a few that are in the vicinity of RCMH - Bobby Van's is a place you might even see someone you know (I met Chris Hansen there once; no, he was not there to arrest me) - but I can do some research as to what's closest, in case anyone wants to get lunch and chat before.  I don't know exactly but there might even be NCAA basketball on at that time.

Worst case scenario - which is far from worst case - I'm cabbing down to McSorley's for the afternoon (though that's far from RCMH). :) :) :) :) :) :)

Never been to an "official" get together.  What exactly ends at 6pm?  Like are there some drink specials or something?  The show starts at 7:30?  I think I'd end up staying there until closer to 7 more realistically.

And was thinking about that plane crash over the weekend and how close that was.

I might be down for some extended time myself, but I'll have to see when we get closer. The thing is, Friday night at MSG is Disturbed and Three Days Grave that I plan on attending with my gf and my college buddy (you've met them both).  So depending on how Friday night goes, I may not be to quick to get in the city the following day.

THen there's the Delain/Xandria concert on Sunday.  I may even just get a hotel, I really don't know, but 3 nights in a row of going back and forth to the city doesn't sound great to me.  My gf is going to the two non DT shows too.  So I have a lot of figuring out to do.

Of course my only three concerts in march are all the same weekend.

With such forum celebrities in attendance, I might have to join you

Stadler

The more the merrier.  I have yet to have anything less than a great time meeting up with forumers here, whether its for DT, another band, or something unrelated.  I'm looking forward to the RCMH show for that reason alone.

cramx3

Yeah, the RCMH meet up is shaping up to be more fun than the show! It certainly was the case for The Astonishing show the last time they played RCMH. (I wasn't a fan in time to be at Score)

Looking forward to Philly though, I think there's DTFers going that I've never met before.

"To Catch A Predator".

Here's the wiki; it's a good overview of the show and the controversy surrounding the show.

He's a cool guy, though, if not a little arrogant, and talked with us for almost 30 minutes.  He was actually pretty knowledgeable about our/my industry, and was talking specifics about a development in Detroit related to that. The only knock was at one point he tried to pull "celebrity" by asking the bartender to tell the chef to make him an order of these chicken wings that they only made on like the weekend or something, and the bartender said "no, I'm so sorry, I'm not going to do that."  Haha.

pg1067

P.S. March 20-23 will be the first round of the NCAA men's college basketball tourney.

The doors are supposed to open at 4:45pm (forty-five minutes before normal hours).  The preshow is a time to mingle and listen to Dream Theater music (at least that's what they allowed two years ago for Dreamsonic).  There will a trivia contest, and some nice prizes awarded to the winners.  At 6PM, the 'official' part ends, and then you stay for however long afterwards. I am not sure about what music will be played afterwards, or at what volume.

When I co-hosted in 2023, we did 430-7pm, and some stayed longer.

foundation is at 699 N. Broad St, about two blocks south of The Met

Santucci's is located at 655 N. Broad Street (two blocks further south), which opens at 11AM. I'm taking a train up, and will probably Lyft over there around 345pm or so.

Unless you plan on really tying one on, a quick google search shows that it opens at 11AM. https://www.elginnyc.com/location/the-elgin/  So you should be just fine....hopefully... ;)

Last time at the Raleigh meetup we stood in the parking lot and split some of that JP bourbon that the host (I think, hef correct me if I'm wrong here) brough with him. I still have a couple of pics from that parking lot

Which reminds me maybe I need to swing by the liqour store :lol

What is this about Santucci's?
Is it still foundation, or did it change to Santucci? I'm confused.

*I* am killing time at Sartucci's until the doors for the preshow at fountain open at 4:45.

I mentioned it simply as a courtesy for anyone arriving early. The few places nearby that serve adult beverages do not open until 5pm.

Someone's got to do it!!!

Can someone be ready to help me back up when I'm done? I'm too old for that shit!   :)

And for those that don't know, while I'm not a teetotaler and I'll have a couple beers with my friends, I don't like being out of my tree for concerts.  I'm at the stage where I'm not the guy you have to watch out for; I'm usually the guy doing the watching out. :)

But for our out of town friends coming to NYC, it's an opportunity to see things that maybe you don't see every day (for example, McSorley's has been in existence since the early 1800s, and there are still decorations from the WWI era in the bar.  It's 100% worth going even if you don't have a drop to drink.)

cramx3

I actually would really like to go to McSorleys, never been.  I just don't really find myself in that area as it's just a bit further south than Webster Hall which is the southern most mid town concert venue I attend.

Marc (and Paul, whose in town) let me know how your plans shake out. It might make sense to meet as we go into the City (it's NYU territory, so public transportation/parking isn't as bad as it is in some other parts of the City), so we can meet there for a quick bit of history, and then head uptown for real.

I only usually go there for the Irving Plaza shows; you're right it's pretty far south so I almost never go if I'm in the City for work, or shows in Midtown.

(FYI, the old Fillmore East was just east of there, and the cover from Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti" is right around the corner.)

geeeemo

To be accurate with the pre-shows in Las Vegas and Reno.
Las Vegas is fro 2-4:30.
To find Yolo's, first it is in Planet Hollywood, directly across the street from the Cosmopolitan. The side of the street with Planet Hollywood is cluster of doors and signs. There is a red ticket booth on the sidewalk right outside one of the doors to Planet Hollywood. Yolo's is on your right when you first go in.

Reno is at 2-4:30 as well. The venue is in the Grand Sierra, a resort style hotel. Chickie & Peets is in the Hotel, about 30 yards from the Grand Theater.

Whatever timezone you are in, that's the time you see. So if you look at the listing in New York, it shows the times in EST, even thought the event is PST.

I mentioned before that I am not sure what time I'll be back in NYC that Saturday since I'll be there the night before for Disturbed at the Garden.  I mentioned to El Barto I might provide him some PC hardware too.  I'm not against going there, I'm just not sure I can commit to meet with you guys earlier than like 3 or 4pm which might make it out of the time frame.  Don't worry about me though, you guys should definitely go and if I make it, that will be sweet.  I'd be coming from NJ so via Penn Station and take a subway down to McSorleys from there.  Otherwise I'd probably just walk from Penn Station to RCMH area (weather permitting) when I arrive in NYC.

I fly in on Thursday and have no specific plans until the show on Saturday so I'm up for it.  I was thinking about maybe going to the Rangers game at 1pm on Saturday, but that's not gonna happen unless the ticket prices come way down (maybe they'll drop out of playoff contention over the next 6 weeks).

By the way...anyone going to the LA/Inglewood show up for a meet-up - perhaps at the bar in the Hollywood Park Casino?

dreamtheater360

I'm not on facebook but I'm interested in going to the NYC one for sure. Possibly the Cleveland one too, but I have VIP that night so that depends on the VIP time (6pm?) and don't want to cut it too close.

Well, my takeaway from all this is that I'm driving down at some point early Saturday afternoon.  My goal is to hang with my friends - you guys - as opposed to sitting in a hotel room.  If you guys aren't in till later, that's fine with me, I'll adjust.  If it's a mix of both - that is, we meet different people at different times - I'll adjust to that as well.  I am impossibly flexible in this.  My only restriction is being in my seat when the lights go down. Seriously.

In all my trips to NYC, I still haven't been to the Friends building.  Perhaps I'll do that in the late morning on Saturday and then walk over to McSorley's.  And yeah...gotta be in the seat for show time!

Yeah, no doubt.  I'll be there for sure and looking forward to it.  There's certainly an expectation for everyone to be in their seats for show time. This isn't like Dreamsonic CT where we opted to continue hanging outside the venue and miss the opener.
