Quote from: EvantheMotel6Owmer on February 11, 2025, 04:50:12 PMYes, they said "stay tuned for information regarding rescheduled date." And mentioned that the tickets would be valid for said date.

Oh, OK. That's great.

I was withing minutes of heading out for the show, so I'm pretty bummed. What I'm worried about is that it's likely that the reschedule will be for the fall when they'll be touring for the album.  Thus, I might miss out on my chance to see some of the classic DT songs that I've never seen live before.

Nonetheless, James' health is the important thing, and I'd rather have them cancel a gig or two rather than risk him getting even sicker, which could lead to more dates being cancelled.  Let's hope he gets well soon.

You guys might still get the 40th Anniversary setlist. I recall Portnoy saying in an interview a few weeks ago that come summer time, certain areas will get the 40th Anniversary set (for places that they didn't go to on leg #1) and other places will get the Parasomnia set (for places they're revisiting, such as if they go to Chicago a second time).

Trav

Damn, that show was sold out too. Fingers crossed he recovers for the shows in Texas this weekend...

That will be really cool if MP does that. When I saw the post on Instagram, my first thought was "damn, that's a bummer that the Atlanta fans won't get to see Octavarium now".

Quote from: hefdaddy42 on February 11, 2025, 05:49:43 AMSo glad to hear it was a good show.  It still freaks me out a little that DT played the Grand Ole Opry House.  Talk about a legendary venue.

We are going to BNA in April and I was looking in to tix for the Grand Ole Opry. I was scanning the calendar to get to the week we were there and saw "Dream Theater" listed. I thought "huh, that's weird, wonder what that is?" It didn't occurred to me it would actually BE Dream Theater.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

Glasser

Shit, that blows. Even when he's able to perform the poor guys voice is most likely not going to be fully ready. Picture Kermit the Frog singing Metropolis.

Glasser

Off the wall takes: I would like to hear Raise The Knife on this tour, I really love that song. And imagine "Under A Glass Prison"!!! Moronic? Maybe, but that would be a fun idea for a mash up.  :corn

Quote from: Mark Levinson Jr. on February 11, 2025, 04:15:16 PMWe drove from Tampa to Atlanta today for the Coca Cola Roxy show. I'm still in shock! Get well James!
I feel for you. I was debating last week if I should make that same drive. I saw that the show was sold out, plus couldn't work it out to drive that much during the week .

Hope JLB gets better soon.

Quote from: cygnusaz on February 11, 2025, 01:40:17 PMWhat was absolutely annoying, distracting, and sometimes downright silly was the constant AI generated videos. I mean... look, we're there to see DT play, not a Zack Snyder AI / CG driven 3-hour movie.  Yes, videos are good when used sparingly, or even 50% of the time. But my God.. every moment of every song had some type of crazy scene going on. Was that really necessary? I get hiding behind (or in front) of videos for bands that really don't have much musical talent and need to distract the audience. But DT are not one of those bands. They need to cut that shyte back.

Oh. We rather enjoyed them.

Amen to that! Been looking forward to the Houston, Dallas (Grand Prairie) and San Antonio shows for months. Wishing James a swift recovery, 'cause health comes first.

100%. I plan to be at the Dallas and San Antonio shows!

An act called Dream Theater playing at a music venue?  What did you think it might be?

The Nashville show is on Dime. The sample sounds pretty good, but is noted that James was struggling a bit due to being sick.

Tonight's show is on? Kind of expected another postponement, but hopefully he's feeling better.

May I DREAM? Next album: "Metropolis Part 3". The most complex album they will ever do. I'm talking flying flutes chasing JP and JR, not one track under 10 minutes, double album of melodic technical insanity! Who's in?

I can't see any universe where Metropolis pt. 3 sounds like a good idea.

TheBarstoolWarrior

Mike doesn't even want to do it, so should they really be doing a record that at least one member doesn't want to write?

Has DT canceled/postponed shows due to illness before?
It looks like they're playing tonight, saw on reddit someone mentioned JLB looked rough at the meet & greet.

Back when I saw the Neal Morse Band that just came off Cruise to the edge, MP was sick as a dog but he was such a trooper, did the meet and greet and the whole show, sang backing vocals. I really don't know how he pulled it off.

Yes. I know they cancelled a show in the days/weeks leading up to the Score show because James was sick.

I was at the Score show and he sounded great! It was my favorite DT show ever attended. So here's to hoping he gets back to top form quickly but more importantly, carefully.

He's done that a couple times.  The one thing you can't accuse him of is phoning it in (and I'm just talking about him; I'm not implying anything about the other guys, especially James.  It's the worst trying to sing with a bad cold/the flu).

Trav

Did anyone here go to the Biloxi show that can report on how James was?

There's a thread on reddit about it
Update on Labrie's health? : Dreamtheater

They cut Home out of the setlist again, I can't imagine how hard it must've been for him to power through that set. It's one thing to be sick and playing an instrument, but to sing when you're suffering a cold/flu is probably one of the worst thing for a singer.

Thanks. Sounds like he was a trooper. At least he is off today. Then he has a three night run. I'll be at the second and third of those, we'll see. More than anything I hope he just gets feeling better, it sucks. It seems like he's been the star of this tour.

jimgolf

To those who might not know exactly why it's so tough to sing DT stuff when you are sick, you kind of need to use your nasal cavities to hit higher notes. When your nasal cavities are congested, it's all your chest voice and there's only so high your voice can go with just the chest voice.

You can flip into your head voice/screaming voice for James though, so I'd imagine he's getting through by hitting higher notes with head voice/falsetto or singing the higher notes an octave down.

For sure.  I was supposed to get to do a song onstage with Queensryche back in, I think it was 2007, and had a bad cold that made me almost entirely lose my voice.  It was awful.  For the warmup, my voice was gone after the first verse and I couldn't finish.  :(  Made me gain an entirely new level of respect for Tate's abilities (singing abilities; not the person) for being able to get up onstage and deliver a full set of REALLY challenging material night in and night out regardless of health.

I can only speak for Raleigh, but he absolutely slayed there. Couldn't ask for more. I hope he feels better soon!

You're a vocalist? That's amazing!!! As far as JLB I feel awful because singing while sick can break him down as the Tour continues. Not having the luxury of getting fully healthy just sucks. Imagine he had the time after the NA leg of Awake tour to fully recover from his food poisoning disaster? Its awful what he's endured and still gets up there. Respect to James!

dualpalmpilots

I've been trying to avoid setlist spoilers for the show and have done a reasonable job, but was looking for update about James' health ahead of the Dallas date and had a song spoiled. One of the metal news aggregators spoiled another for me. All together, I know four of the songs they're doing. I should've gone completely dark. Someone tell me I haven't ruined the experience for myself, I'm feeling a little bummed!
