Quote from: Ayeegit on February 11, 2025, 06:10:46 AMMy family and I were here in Nashville about a year and a half ago, and as our two daughters are huge Country music fans, we did the Grand Ole Opry tour (which was excellent) - little did I know my wife and I would be coming back for a DT show. The world can be a funny place sometimes...
Nice!

Quote from: hefdaddy42 on February 11, 2025, 05:49:43 AMSo glad to hear it was a good show.  It still freaks me out a little that DT played the Grand Ole Opry House.  Talk about a legendary venue.

I was thinking that too; this isn't the first time for them (they played there in 2022) but it is the first time with Mike P. I don't know if it's Mike's first time playing there.  It's definitely an iconic place, though oddly modern for all the history that's taken place there.

So I guess this confirms they'll play the entire album sometime in the fall tour cycle. I have to see if there's a full video of this, but the reel shows great banter between the guys with even Myung chiming in the suggestsions.

Devour Feculence!

Ayeegit

One minor nitpick I forgot to mention about last night's Nashville show. Not sure if this was a "Grand Ole Opry" issue or a "DT" issue - but Petrucci and Myung were barely lit for most of the show. Didn't seem like many (any?) spotlights used during the show. Seemed odd - and my wife noticed it as well, so I don't think it was just my Old Man eyes...

Great video, and I will certainly attend that show in my PJs.

This is still a great set overall, but for me personally, I'm really annoyed that they swapped out Constant Motion for TDEN.  I don't dislike either song, but I love CM considerably more, and TDEN has been played on at least two other tours for the last 5 album cycles.  (and I know the same can be said of PMU, but the difference is that that is their lone "hit")  Oh well.  I know JP loves playing that song, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

SeRoX

To be honest I don't have a problem with this setlist either, it's quite good. But when the band and especially Portnoy himself state "we are happy with this 40th anniversary setlist." part of myself says "you are but I'm not." My ideal 40th setlist would be different. But again, I'm still happy about what I get.

TheHoveringSojourn808

I'm thrilled for the change. The last minute or so of TDEN is one of my all-time favorite DT moments, whereas to my ears CM has always sounded a bit too much like Metallica. To each their own but I will be head banging my patookus off at the Denver show. Anyone hope they bring back the Dark Nintendo Night videos like they used for Prog Nation 2008?

I wish we'd gotten As I Am instead of Midnight Messiah just because I personally prefer As I Am. I've never seen TDEN live but saw Constant Motion live a long time ago (and reveled in the silliness), I'm happy to have seen TDEN. Was really cool seeing that tune played live and to see the whole theater headbanging along.

Honestly other than This is the Life it was a pretty perfect set for a 40th anniversary tour. Would've liked to see Transcending Time in that spot instead, personally, but I'm just nitpicking at this point.

Anyone going to the LA show looking to meet up before the show?

Unless something else pops up, I'll probably hit the Century Bar & Grill in the Hollywood Park Casino.

TheHoveringSojourn808

^ Similar question but for Denver, are there any known Denver meetups before the Mission gig?

I suspect we won't meet up at the Century Bar & Grill in Hollywood before the Denver show tho :lol

Well, I mentioned this above, but I'm going to start at Archie Moore's - it's about 5 minutes from the venue - beforehand.  I'm not saying everyone has to go there; I'm flexible and will meet the group where the group decides to meet, but it's a convenient place to at least catch up and begin the day/night.

I'm really excited to see old friends and meet new ones. For me it's the best part of the DT experience.

Awaken

I haven't put much thought into it aside from heading down that way a little early to hang out.  I'm good w the place Stadler mentioned.  I don't recall anything that's really in walking distance to the venue, pretty much everything is going to be a short drive.

Myung seems more concerned... like uh maybe in a year? By the 'end' of '25 they will play it in full. So for Europe round 2 it will be the 40th, however, my bet is we'll see 1 or 2 more Parasomnia tracks swapped into the setlist. You know Portnoy can't have a setlist standstill for long.. aka the Europe to NA changes.

cygnusaz

So finally got a chance to post: This post contains SETLIST SPOILERS

Raleigh was my 20th DT show since 1994, and what a perfect show to celebrate that milestone. First, seeing Portnoy again was incredible and made it 'feel' like DT again.  Look, I liked a lot about the MM years; 4 solid records, one weird one (Astonishing), live they were great. But man, the energy and presence Portnoy brings back to the band is undeniable. You don't know what you've got 'till its gone.

Even them playing 'Rooster' by AiC before the Psycho soundtrack; that's something they always used to do going back to the 90s. It just felt like the DT experience I had from 1994 - 2010. MM years were great - just different.

Setlist; For the most part I was happy. While 'This is the Life' and 'Vacant' were surprises and not my first choices, I've never seem them live.  So as a DT 'completest' I was fine with it.  'Barstool Warrior' also not a great choice to represent DoT, nor the MM years in general. I agree with the person who suggested 'Transcending Time', but even 'Answering the Call', 'The Looking Glass', 'Surrender to Reason (which has never been played live', would've been better choices.

Concerning the rest, look we knew 'Images & Words', 'Scenes' were going to have some strong representation. No real surprises there. Loved that they did 'Stream of Consciousness' to rep ToT, I thought they might pull out 'Honor Thy Father', or 'This Dying Soul' which haven't been played in awhile.  'Dark Eternal Night', 'Mirror', 'Hollow Years', all great choices imo. I was happy we got 2 off the new one as well. 'Panic Attack' was expected. I'm glad they chose 'Octavarium' as the epic. Look, 'Change of Seasons' was played in 2017, Count of Tuscany in 22/23, and we don't need to ever see 'Illumination Theory' again lol...

What surprised me was '6DoIT' and 'BCSL' were not represented. Yes, '6DoIT' got a lot of play on the last tour, still I figured all the 1999 - 2009 albums would get representation. Nothing from 'BCSL' was a real surprise to me, I was certain 'A Rite of Passage', or maybe 'Best of Times' would finally get played. But overall, I was happy with the set.

What was absolutely annoying, distracting, and sometimes downright silly was the constant AI generated videos. I mean... look, we're there to see DT play, not a Zack Snyder AI / CG driven 3-hour movie.  Yes, videos are good when used sparingly, or even 50% of the time. But my God.. every moment of every song had some type of crazy scene going on. Was that really necessary? I get hiding behind (or in front) of videos for bands that really don't have much musical talent and need to distract the audience. But DT are not one of those bands. They need to cut that shyte back.

Otherwise, an amazing show. And the first time I've ever been to a sold out DT performance in 30 years of seeing this band! Crowd was very diverse; old, young, kids, and even...women! Yes, I saw some! It's great to see DT reclaim the throne because that last tour in 2023 with MM had piss poor sales.

So what's next? Thought about catching another show when they circle back to the east, but I'm good. I will wait for the next leg in the fall, excited to see the rest of the Parasomnia songs played and any other set changes Portnoy has up his sleeve. Onward to show #21 whenever that happens!

I wasn't aware of history with Rooster being played before DT takes the stage.  Is there some meaning to that song and band you know of?  I loved it in the moment because I had just seen Jerry Cantrell a week earlier so it felt fitting to have that song play before the show.

I literally felt like that was tailored to me in that moment (obviously it wasn't but couldn't help the thought of, what are the chances the last song I saw live was being played before the next song Im about to see live?")

Replying to Ayeegit, I noticed the lack of spotlights on JP and JM also in Philly. I guess it is intentional amd I wont complain because I was floored by the light show. Top notch!

QuoteWe regret to inform you that tonight's show in Atlanta has been cancelled due to illness. Here's a message from James LaBrie:

"To everyone attending tonight's show in Atlanta I sincerely apologize for having to cancel the show tonight due to being sick. I hope to get through this as quickly as possible and resume putting on amazing shows throughout the remaining NA dates. Thank you and see you soon."

Stay tuned for more information regarding the rescheduled date for Atlanta, GA

Yeah, I'm watching some video of Octavarium from last night and...yeah, calling off today was the right call, to put it mildly.

Ironically, the one section he's able to keep up on decently is Full Circle, the most difficult section lol.

Quote from: TAC on February 11, 2025, 04:07:27 PMOh shit. That sucks.

We drove from Tampa to Atlanta today for the Coca Cola Roxy show. I'm still in shock! Get well James!

jimgolf

Yeah, it's a bummer, but I'm kind of glad they put James' health first and cancelled the show rather than try to push through and do it. I saw a video of some of the Nashville show and James' voice sounded extremely sick. It could be risky to have James sing and perform that sick and risk him potentially damage his voice for the rest of the tour(not that such an ominous thing has ever happened before - darn you Cuba and your sushi  >:( )

Aside from that, these guys aren't spring chickens anymore and being really sick at an older age needs to be taken more seriously.

I hope he feels better and they bounce back soon!

KevShmev

Bummer for the fans in Atlanta tonight, but great call by the band to not go through with it.  Like was said above, they aren't as young as they used to be (who is??), so better to be safe than sorry when it comes to health.

One of my worst fears of concert travel.  Sucks, but what can you do? Hopefully the make up date works for everyone.

The statement said it was being cancelled. Did they mention a make-up date somewhere else?
