Another great song, didn't make number 5 for me but it was up there (maybe even higher if it wasn't for the terrible moaning).

Trial of Tears is awesome all the way through. Definitely a top 5 song for me and worthy of this finish.

Home, well, I think it's a little overrated. Kind of a messy song that doesn't do a lot for me, though the intro was pretty unique and sets a nice tone for the second half of the album.

Trial of Tears # 35 for me. Really well composed piece. The only thing that drags it down a bit for me is the not-so-memorable melodies.

Home is amazing, probably a top-5 DT chorus AND keyboard-guitar solo trade-off. Trial of Tears: I appreciate some of this song, but 13 minutes is a loooooong time to stay at that tempo. Also not a fan of the way James says "it's rainen" over and over again. If it had been "rainING" it would be less grating on the ears. Cool guitar solo. Breaking the Fourth Wall is the best version for me. Also, the only song to make every list? Please n . . . . .

I didn't expect Trial of Tears to be this high. I like it, but I've never been crazy about it. I echo the sentiment that 'It's rainèn' over and over isn't all that great to listen to. The solo section is pretty awesome.

Home is one of their very best. It soon grew out to be my favorite song from SFAM, but I have definitely overplayed it throughout the years. Especially the LSFNY version.

Trial of tears was my #18. One of the more unique epics. It's moody, it's melancholic, and it occasionally rocks out. One of the several songs on Falling into infinity that I truly love. Seeing this live in 2014 was special, James nailed it.

Home was my #41. A great song from my favorite Dream Theater album. Though I did rank quite a few SFAM songs above it, it's still brilliant.

Trial of Tears was my number 9. A totally awesome song from a not as awesome album. Great composition from start to finish with great contributions by everyone.  So glad this got a mention by everyone as it is soo fricking good. Love the small soundbits and percussion sounds that add soo much to the feeling especially in the Wasteland....
Home ended up at spot 14. One of a bunch of highlights on SFAM. Definetely one of Dream Theaters many masterpieces.... moans and all

6 Trial of Tears - I was right with the consensus on this one, # 6 for me.  Just a gorgeous, beautiful song.

5 Home - I love it, just not quite as much as the rest of you.  It came in at # 19 for me.  BTW, cheers to DT for figuring out a way to bring the WOMP WOMP from Tainted Love into a prog song.

06.   Trial Of Tears (#45) I like the NY chorus.  I didn't own FII until after the '08 tour.  When MP was in front of his drum kit playing chimes and such at the beginning of the encore, I thought they were going to play 'Xanadu'.

05.   Home (#60)  a highlight watching JP during the anniversary tour.

Trial of Tears- #7 on my list. Just an absolute stunner of a song start to finish. I'm particularly fond of the vocal section right after the solo leading into the last chorus.

Home- I was just a touch lower than the consensus #15 on my list. All hail the WOMP WOMP, a monster of a song. Love the chorus, and I've always liked how the (great) guitar solo transitions directly into the little lead line used repeatedly to feed into the chorus.

There's a subtlety about the ensemble playing in ToT that is gorgeous.
There are times I want to wrestle the guitar out of JP 's hands, and tell him to chill the fuck out, but then you get a performance like in BtFW and all is well in the world. So good. My number 1.

Home is pretty good, but it doesn't have the same dynamic and emotional range.

13. Fatal Tragedy - Just an excellent song from the first moments to the last.  I had it at #10.

12. Scarred - My favorite song on Awake by a pretty good margin.  I LOVE the bass intro and the changing moods of the song.  I had it at #7.

11. In the Name of God - This song was released in the midst of a very chaotic time in my life, and it took me a while to warm up to it, but holy hell!  I had it at #8.

10. The Count of Tuscany - Gotta say I'm a little surprised to see this this high.  It's really good, but it's not without its faults.  I had it at #16.

9. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence - I REALLY don't get some of the absolute panning of this piece.  It's not perfect, but it's pretty damn close.  I don't consider it a single song, but taken as a whole, I had it at #4.

8. Breaking All Illusions - Hands down the best song on ADTOE.  I had it at #12.

7. Voices - I don't love it as much as Scarred, and I didn't initially care for it, but it still came in at #20 for me.

6. Trial of Tears - A nice song (and maybe the best on a mediocre album), but #6 is absurdly high.  Not a surprise, though, given where it ranked last time, but I don't get the devotion this song gets.  I had it at #52, which makes it the second top 20 song not in my top 50 (UAGM being the other).

5. Home - Such a perfect way to write a "Metropolis Part 2" but not call it that.  An absolute epic.  I had it at #6.

Home - #20 - this song slaps. It's only this low because DT has a lot of great songs. I could see it rising higher next time I make my list.

06. Trial Of Tears

Didn't expect this one so high, but I'm not gonna complain, and I figured it would have been FII's best ranking song. It was my 15, 9 positions lower, and I remember listening to it recently and being floored by it. So atmospheric, moody, painting a scene with music, without the need to use "too many notes" so to speak, all in all one of their best songs of the '90s and I definitively wish and hope they do something like this on the next album.

05. Home

So close, it was my number 7. One of the crowning masterpiece of their "Mona Lisa" (random thought - I reserve the doubt to think that in Blind Faith "I painted my own Mona Lisa" is a reference to SFAM), a fun song to sing or hum along to (wha wha! wha wha!) and a bombastic chorus. The reprise of the Metropolis theme is fantastic. In retrospect, the sex noises are a bit cringey but whatever, this song rules and is probably the one that works most as an hypothetical "Metropolis pt. 2 as a single song", because of the musical and lyrical reprises.

Trial of Tears (my #7). Is there a Top 10 DT song that isn't a masterpiece? ToT deserves all the praise and I would highlight the extremely tasty and cool grooves MP/JM played on all the song and that keyboad solo by Derek, with that AMAZING funky rhythm guitar by JP.

Home (my # 28). Love the intro, the killer soloing and the outro. I kind of "forgive" those TOOL's 46 & 2 very inspired bass lines, since I think JM took them and managed to perfected them. Amazing song!

And there it is. The single most overrated song in the DT catalog.  I love the instrumental second half, which is the only reason it made the list at all. But I find the first half to be a bit of a plodding, slogfest.  But I still manage to get into the spirit of things whenever they do it live.

Knowing how you despise Home (or I guess the first half of it), I was surprised to see it make your list. Funny that you nailed ToT for the correct position. After a couple close calls, I ranked Home exactly at the aggregate for the first time.

"Despise" is a very strong term. The first half is just kind of "there" and I really don't get what the big deal is. It just seems like such a "one note" chugga chugga for a band like DT and it feels like something that I've heard done so much by so many other bands. It's almost cliche I guess.

It's ok.  I just don't get the hype.
