Interesting so far, but A Life Left Behind? Is that really a fan favorite? :)

It's a favorite of THIS fan.  :metal

The intro is one of the best parts of the album! (love the rest of the song as well)   :D

I went straight to this page in the thread and thought this was the opener  :rollin

Already got my ticket for Glasgow. I see that there are still good seats available. I was also thinking about going to Manchester too. Train fare is very reasonable. Much to my surprise I was offered stalls row J. Tickets for Manchester a lot more expensive than Manchester though. A bit concerned that some of the dates aren't selling very well.

Me too, the intro is one the best moments on TA.

The intro is one of the best moments on the either disc - agreed. I just find it odd that the rest of the song isn't anywhere near as good nor really makes much sense following it (IMO) so I find it a frustrating song to listen to.

jammindude

Absolutely one of my favorite moments from TA!!!

Agree completely, g. Surprised that with all of the great tracks on TA, that's the one they went with.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Funny post by Mangini. He made a mistake in the Take The Time intro because he hit his hair, and everyone wanted to catapult him to Venus because of that.  :lol

He also enjoyed all members having an inprovised solo spot.

Mangini is probably my favorite drummer on earth and one of the most humble guys you could ever find.
Having said that... I think he should definitely cut down his hair haha. His look was fine for the ADTOE years, but now he looks like the lost son of Skrillex and Snape from Harry Potter

rumborak

Well, JP is also quickly on his way towards Leland Sklar territory, so ... :lol

Ha! That's JP's future for his late 60s  :lol
I actually prefer JP's monster beard over Mangini's loooooong hair

jsbru

I sort of preferred all of them with shorter hair.  Except for Myung, who has always looked the same.

Pettor

All in all a freakin awesome setlist! Good diversity, solo spots and ACOS!!! I would still change A Life Left Behind to a crowd pleaser like Three Days, Moment of Betrayal or best of all A New Beginning (the song with standing ovations, but yes that song is longer). Anyway I shouldn't complain people seems to like it and the intro is awesome actually. TBP and HK will be awesome to hear and BIA is always a big welcome. I&W is of course pure bliss :)

Now I actually understand the "two monster songs"  . First I was disappointed at them choosing TDEN but I haven't listened to it for a while and that song is actually a lot of fun, specially the ending  :metal

Let's just hope the idea of having 3 concerts in a small country like Sweden with a very high ticket price will go well. I am really not sure it will ...  ???

Video of LTL.

Sounds like it's been transposed down a semitone for JLB.

Overall, I'm pleased with the setlist. The only song that "bothers" me is The Spirit Carries On. Maybe Along for the Ride would have been better? Kind of athemlike sounding and similar vibe as TSCO.

erwinrafael

In the other thread, I said I wish they would sing Chosen instead of TSCO.

Actually, he couldn't be referring to that one, since he already learnt it for the ADToE tour.. As some have said in the other thread, the other monster track (one of them obviously being ACoS) has to be Take the Time... Because no way he could've named HK a monster track, and that's the only other 'song' he had to learn for this tour...

Samsara

While I am not a big fan of DT's more recent material (it is OK), this is, as a friend put, exactly how a band recognizes a very old and loved album, and still maintains relevancy with its newer music.

But that second set...just awesome. Hope this comes stateside. I'll be there for sure, even if the first set (minus a few songs that I like -- HK, TSCO, AIA) isn't my thing.

It usually takes James a show or two to get to full throttle, it's always been like that. Also....anyone who had any type of notion that James was going to be able to nail those notes from 25 years ago...in a different tune or not....was crazy. His pipes just aren't the same anymore. As long as his performance doesn't detract from the show then it's all good... Either way, from the clips I've seen it's already a killer show and is only going to get more refined. I can't wait to see the US dates....curious to see if I'll get the chance to see more than 1 show or not.

Agreed on all counts. James historically, regardless of the material takes a couple shows into a tour to hit his stride.

rumborak

Some of those notes that have been too high for James have been more than one semitone too high for quite a while. So, while bringing down the tune by a semitone will certain help, I doubt he will get those high notes even later into the tour. Many notes on TA were outside his reach live, even far into the tour.

Yea, I think some people overestimate the difference between an F# and an F.

Honestly he should lower parts like that an octave. Especially for that 'I've heard the whispering of revolution' part of TA, he could put attitude and meaning into the words, instead of vaguely in tune barking

Take The Time sounds like shit.

In all fairness, JLB has always struggled to sing Take the Time live, not just the second verse.  I suspect that is the reason it has never been a live mainstay.

I hate it when Jordan takes liberty with Kevin's solos.  They shouldn't be that difficult to replicate.  On BTFW, the biggest disappointment was his solo on Scarred.

I know it probably doesn't make a big deal to him, but I'm used to hearing that specific solo, and JP does a great job replicating his.

LOVE that jam at the end though.  Almost reminded me of Phish for a little bit.
