There will be a few listening parties in Europe in the coming weeks - keep your eyes up on social media!

Norway will have one held January 14th:

If this results in anything similar to this thread, that would be great.

Lucky as usual.... NOT   Everything is going against me for this tour, and now also pre listening. I have to travel all the way from Norway to Amsterdam and London to see the shows in February. Now I am not at home now during the listening parties either  Must stop working at sea I think.
PS! Has clearly been a good boy last year anyway  Got a VIP ticket for the show in London of my girl friend for Christmas. She is very good and nice  ;D :heart

Hopefully one will be held in Stockholm as well...

There will be a party in my pants when it is released.

What's the idea behind those? To have the media review it without obtaining an actual copy?

noxon

No media involved. This is pure fan service.

I love this kind of declaration. It always cracks me up! Nothing like a good laugh in the morning to start a good day!

I've always wondered this myself. Do they group a bunch of people in a room, play it over loudspeakers, and everyone just sits there? That's the mental image I always get. Seems awkward.

If everyone also has a notepad and pencil, that's exactly how I imagine prog fans listening to a new DT album.

Gadough

It does seem pretty apt when you put it that way. :lol

mike099

I seem to remember with the last release DT had a listening party complete with refreshments.  There were pictures posted.

I feel like a teen in anticipation for the album to come out.

You're thinking of a different type of fanservice ;P Actually, I probably am too. I've been watching too much anime lately (Or not enough, who knows o.o)

This makes me wish I lived in Europe.

That's apparent from those who were relentless regarding the production of the last album.  Are you getting your pad and pencil ready?    ;)

CDrice

The Band: ''So now that you're done listening to the new album, can you give us your first impressions?''

Random fan 1: '' Wait, let me check my notes. The production was pretty average. The drums are way too loud and mechanical, the bass is too buried and the keyboards are too.''

Random fan 2: ''It was too heavy''

Random fan 3: ''It was way too soft''

Random fan 4: ''The lyrics are way too cheesy and James should really stop trying to sing high. It doesn't suit him anymore''

Random fan 5: ''It's too prog''

Random fan 6: ''The artwork sucks!''

Random fan 7: '' Where's the epic? It can't be a Dream Theater album if there's no epic''

Random fan 8: ''Well... it's better than When Dream and Day Unite... I guess''

*One hour of comments later*

The Band: ''So... none of you liked it?''

Everyone: ''WHAT!? CONCEPT ALBUM! PROG FANGASM! BEST ALBUM EVARRR!!!''

The Band: *confused as hell*

Very cool with a listening party in my hometown Trondheim. Did not expect that (thnx noxon if you are involved in this). Applied and answered the question. Now it is time to wait for the result  :hat

Seems plausible. I can see myself as one among them :lol

With 30+ tracks, it'd be more like a listening sleepover.  :corn

better pack spare listening panties.

As a member of Your Majesty's staff, I was kindly invited to take part in the French listening so I should be able to give you a report (not to detailed, I presume, but who knows what Warner music will tell us)

mike099

Will be nice to get general impressions of the cd from real fans and not just reviewers from magazines and papers.

Going to the listening party in Trondheim this afternoon. Excited!

That's pretty much what i did 2 years ago.
But, i mean, you're in an office with a bunch of strangers and no control over the cd player. What else you could do?
That's a really cool experience nontheless.

mikeyd23

So is the Norway listening party happening right now? If so, I can't wait to hear feedback!

Lumiukko

I'm also waiting for the feedback. These kind of reviews are more interesting to me. :)

thosava

I'm interested in knowing something more about the music, but i wouldn't want the story spoiled!

Thematt202

Yeah, I'm hoping for a full reveal of the album in terms of the music (about bloody time!), but would like to keep the story mostly under wraps.

bosk1

Remember--you guys can discuss the music, but may not post any music.
