Maybe someone can start a thread to discuss the single and if they share another song, in order to not spoil the ones who wants to hear the whole album.

What do you think?

Damn, I just found it and thought I was going to win something cool.

And no Bosk, I wouldn't have won a ban.

LCArenas

Wait, does that mean that the people who posted the leaks were banned for publishing the song just hours before the band itself released it?
:lol

As the first released track from the album its much better than TEI.
Need time to fully digest it though, but hopes are now high for the rest of the album.

Not a fan of the instrumental at the end, but everything before that is awesome!

Not really sure. Good song I suppose but nothing really grabs me. My expectations for this album aren't too high but hopefully it'll surpass that.

Yes.

That's what you get for opening Christmas presents before the family gathers on 25th December to do it all together.

Just listen to those choirs!

The whole song gives off this nice SDOIT vibe.

I still don't like the snare.

At first I had reservations about the "rock opera" tag.  I didn't want it to be too theatrical because I thought that would take away from the metalness of it all.

I was wrong.  It *does* have a rock opera feel but it is subtle. There is some amazing guitar work by Petrucci.  Everyone is on their game.  I'm listening to it on a laptop so it's not ideal.  The mix sounds similar to DT12.  I'm ok with that.

All in all, this song rocks and The Astonishing is going to be amazing.

Yeah, the snare and kicks all sound the same. But it sounds fresh. Those choirs are awesome

also, confirmation for January 29th.

seeing the cover closeup in that video i noticed the majesty symbol on the palace drapes, i dig it  :hat

LCArenas

Lovin' it. It has some SFAM/Six Degrees vibe to it I'm liking a lot.

And I really hope we can hear more Gospel Choir parts in the songs as well.

emtee

Very good song!

Great JP solo and some really nice double bass work from MM. Appears to be a much better drum sound also!

NICE

Viking of the Sagas

This sounds like SC and SDOIT to me... with a bit of SFAM and ADTOI on the solos.

The choirs are stupefying. Drums sound crisp and powerful. The guitar and keyboard mesh out really well.

"...you're talking, when all's said and done, probably two hours, 10 minutes worth of music..."

YES!!  :metal :metal

Amazing, awesome, incredible song. Album going to kick ass....

But can we talk about the horrible pitch correction at 1:22 on the word "time"? So unnatural! Really hoping that they fix this for the album. Also on also most obvious on 1:16 " the lions share" on "lions"... even at :22 the word "in". Oi vey hope that's not through the whole album.

Sounds amazing though otherwise so much magic on those drums and guitars!!

The Presence of Frenemies

Definitely some really cool parts in there. Choir part was the best. One of the better MM-era JP solos, too. Drawbacks are that James sounds pretty strained at times, the snare still is tuned quite low (though the overall clarity of the drums is better than DT12), and the ending is kind of strange. Definitely breeds optimism on the whole.

I guess now we know that TA isn't 160 minutes of continuous music, since the track has a very definitive start and end.
