The pic may be a part of the traditional promotional press kit, so I think we can take the hints at a double-concept album as a fact. Imagine what it was like entering the store looking for whatever new album DT had put out, and only then and there reading the title: METROPOLIS PT. 2. 

Exactly that happened to me! I will never forget the moment when I read "Metropolis pt. 2..." with the name of the band written in the original font. I thought: "this has to be #uckin' awesome". And it truly was.

That's one awful picture. The choice of colors is not good at all and none of the guys know what to do with their hands (or their facial expressions)

I've always found that DT is not precisely a "nice picture" band, except for some notable exceptions from the TOT/8VM era pics. After that, they took the LET'S LOOK LIKE A BALLSY METAL BAND thing too seriously.

I always thought that the BC&SL promotion photos always fit the feel of the album well and weren't too bad. Besides the fact that in the booklet, the top photo was used and JLB got a staple right through the head

Yeah, I did too. We had no idea new albums were coming out till we saw them in the store. I don't know if somebody already posted it, but Jordan posted on Facebook this interview https://www.cronacatorino.it/cultura-societa/61463-intervista-a-jordan-rudess-dream-theater-la-leggenda-si-racconta-su-cronacatorino.html where when he was asked about the new album he said it probably will come out next year but they are already very excited, two days ago he listened to the first tracks so I guess they are ready

Also, he said "there will be something from Liquid Tension Experiment in the future" and that he's working on an album with Levin and Minnemann, are you talking about it somewhere in the forum?

Well, is there anything to suggest that JP has not forgiven him? If they weren't hanging out together before MP left (see the 5 years thread) then I doubt they would after, either. So maybe they are on good terms and just don't talk much? Or am I missing something?
Either way this is awesome news, I love LTE and I thought MP did a better job with that project because he was seemingly less in control...it was more like "everyone is equal" instead of "The Mike Portnoy Show", even though he was the leader. And LMR is also an amazing project.
