Me, too. But I still have a lot of respect for bands like Yes (up until "The Ladder" REALLY Awful!), Rush, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Kansas, etc.

I enjoy them, for sure. I do love Rush, Kansas, Styx, and have liked what little I've heard from Genesis, Yes, etc. But the amount of Metal bands I like vastly outnumbers the amount of prog rock bands that I like.

Kid Rock

That actually came to mind for me as well.  :tup

Okay, from the bashing of musical genres, to the quintuple posting, to the broken quotes so that you can't tell who is actually saying what in a given post, to the extreme off-topic discussion of rap, this thread is done.  If people want to take another shot at discussing Dream Theater's influences that does NOT create the above problems, go for it.  But if the above continue, warnings will be handed out.

Oh, and:

Rap as a genre stands for "Rhythmic American Poetry"
No it doesn't.

Well, it's your word against The D.O.C. so unless you're gonna elaborate and give me a more definitive answer, don't just say I'm wrong.

For one thing, I don't know how hold you are, but I lived through the rise of rap, and was a large fan of early rap, and I have never heard that term before.

But let's do some research.

Yahoo: How did rap get it's name?
- of significance: "Although the word rap has sometimes been claimed to be a backronym of the phrase "Rhythmic American Poetry", "Rhythm and Poetry", "Rhythmically Applied Poetry", or "Rhythmically Associated Poetry", use of the word to describe quick and slangy speech or repartee long predates the musical form."

Wikipedia's article on Rapping

So, that is some made-up shit by The D.O.C.  "Rap" doesn't stand for anything, it's a word that originally meant talking, then when it was set to music it was called "rap music," then over time became rapping, just like rapping used to mean talking.  It is not an acronym for anything.

D.O.C. is probably my favorite rapper of all time, but if he honestly believes that rap is an acronym, he is an idiot.  Hef has it right.

And to close out the thread, I leave you with a little rythmic American poem (to the rhythm of Eazy-E's rap on D.O.C.'s "Grand Finale"):

The name is Bosk for me to come off like the enforcer
Mass-locking threads in a course of
An everyday situation where I would stalk by
Forget the car, I do a muthafriggin' walk-by
Bosk1 and the heffy42 and
Run house and there won't be no disagreeing
'Cause if there is some, you feeling staticy
Then I'm arrested (For what?) assault and battery
Never outdone, only outdoing
Locking your threads and the banned boo hooing
Why--'cause they're addicted to what my lock did
The pleasure of pain, that the mods inflicted
And never forget when banned and dead
By Bosky, the name of a DTF hard head
Cool but local like loc never broke
'Cause they're paid to be ruthless, this is why I do this
I don't give a crap about fame
I rather deal with a number than a fake forum name
Follow the rules and then post
'Cause post count without followin' rules ain't toast
Bosky ain't friendly if you breaking the rules
Especially when your acting like fools
Put the B-O-S-K and to the 1
Expression of thought on the last post -- this thread is done.

It's probably better if you read it while listening to the song.  :lol
