And I will never, ever understand the opinion that You Or Me is somehow vastly superior to You Not Me.  It's awful too.

Agreed.  To me, it's like trying to put lipstick on a pig.  Neither version is good.

New Millennium is fantastic.

YOM just has a differently bad chorus instead of the one on the album.
If I had to choose which I prefer, I'd probably still choose YNM's poppy chorus over the grungey wannabe YOM chorus, but one is not significantly better than the other to the point of making either a great song. It's splitting hairs.
They should have just dropped it altogether. It's the only track on FII I'd eliminate. It's still not their worst song though.

And yes, NM is fantastic. I don't understand the hate.

ThatOneGuy2112

NM is also a standard "alright" DT song. Very average by their standards, but I don't hate it like a lot might.

Most of WDADU
Take Away My Pain
Anna Lee
Regression
Through Her Eyes
Through My Words

All of those are definitely worse than You Not Me.

The case can be made for the first three, but the latter 3? Not even close.

Burning My Soul is far worse. Just plain awful song. New Millennium is probably the least interesting song they've ever made. So yeah, with those two not even close.

DebraKadabra

Um... no, not even close. (answering the question, not a response to any one post ITT)
Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause

I voted no. I don't think it's the worst, but it's certainly boring. I went and listened to it after seeing this thread, and promptly forgot it was even playing until Peruvian Skies started.

I was wearing headphones...

Not with Honor Thy Father out there.  :lol

I love this song.

Me too.. I never would have thought so many people could possibly think YNM was better than HTF. I can't enter into it. HTF is just so  :metal.

SuperTaco

I enjoy YNM, so it's far from the worst song in their collection IMO. I like it quite a bit more than "Just Let Me Breathe" and "Take Away My Pain" for example.

Hey! I am not metal hating!

Dublagent66

No!  By far "not" the worst.  PoW and Never Enough come to mind though.  For me, those two songs are the worst.  YNM isn't as bad as you think.

Zook

There are some silly songs on Falling Into Infinity, but the album is actually pretty damn awesome, and You Not Me isn't bad by any means, but I'll still give it crap for being so corny.

Dublagent66

Ok, good luck with that Kev.  I'd say the majority of us agree that YNM isn't very strong by DT standards, but if you think it's the worst DT song ever, you're in the minority.  I'm pretty sure of that.  ;)

It's as bad as I think.  Which is awful.

If not the worst, it's definitely in the bottom 5.

iamtheeviltwin

I like You Not Me, it made it into my top 50...of course I like the "poppy" Dream Theater (which seems to be the source of many people's hated songs in this thread) it is a role they do well and adds a good element to their albums.

Constant Motion still wins the title as worst song on a studio album...I actually hesitated at buying Systematic Chaos after hearing CM as the single...first (and only) time I have ever hesitated at buying a DT album.

Crow

Behind The Veil and Through Her Eyes are mildly worse. Lost Not Forgotten is way worse, The Dark Eternal Night is borderline unlistenable, Take Away My Pain is an insult to my ears, and Build Me Up,  Break Me Down should not even *exist*.

So no, it's not the worst. It's not even a fraction as terrible as their worst three songs.
turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

jammindude

YNM is just kinda 'meh'.    PoW is the worst.

Literally all of those are far better, with the possible exception of TAMP and BMU,BMD. :o

What on earth is wrong with BMU BMD anyway? Too poppy? Too catchy? Not always a bad thing. Besides, it's still a fairly unconventional song especially if you're considering pop conventions. It's also has some unique qualities even for a DT song.

As for Constant Motion, I'm just gonna have to jump on a high horse and go head and assume some of you guys don't understand it's sheer brilliance!  Because saying it's worse than YNM.. Come on.. no one could really think that.. could they? Making you second think buying the album even? What on earth is going on here? There are some thing's I'll never understand.  :lol

There's no sheer brilliance in "FOREVER MORE INTO THE NIGHT BLISTERING!" :lol :lol

No, it's not worse than You Not Me, but while You Not Me is comfortably my least favorite DT song from a studio album, Constant Motion is very comfortably number 2 on my least favorite list.  I am not sure what number 3 is, but Constant Motion is far ahead of it.

I agree with everything Kev said....except for the insinuation that YNM is still worse.   CM is a disaster.    (I'll admit, it's a bit  better live)

Take Away My Pain is amazing, you bastards.

Indeed it is, as long as you are talking about the album version and not the generic demo or the version with the Kenny G sax bullshit.

It's funny because I believe MP has gone on record that he disliked the album version and preferred the original demo.    That's one of the few times I disagree with him....although I do like the lost line "There'll be no encore after all"...

Or is there!? Perhaps an allusion to exactly what is happening to MP every night, destroying himself on the drums, and even a subtle reference to a certain famous drummer's comment at the end of a old classic song, during a certain album in the 60s.

Okay maybe that's grasping straws, but I tried.  :D Seriously though, words and lyrics aside and whatever they could mean, CM has a phenomenal guitar solo and some catchy riffs aswell. And the JR keyboard solo is just Jordan out of control. I still think it's a great energetic song. :P

Who cares what the words mean? It's still pretty awesome. The verses, at least are worded well.Focus here! Focus there!

BlobVanDam

CM has no place in this conversation at all. Just saying.

The only thing bad about CM is the chorus, but the song itself is still mediocre.
