I hadn't listened to this song in a long time, so I gave it a whirl recently, thinking, maybe it will be better than I remembered.  It wasn't.  In fact, it was far worse.  It has some of the ugliest melodies I've ever heard, and so much of the song just sounds awkward.  The outro is kind of nice, but other than that, there is little value to be found in this song.

senecadawg2

No. Just Let Me Breathe, Honor Thy Father, and Panic Attack are my least favorites
Quote from: LithoJazzoSphere on November 28, 2024, 04:50:14 PMThe senecadawg who won 11 roulettes is dead and gone.  He is now diogenesdawg2.

It's not even the weakest song on FII (that would be Take Away My Pain...insert Sideshow Bob stepping on rake sound effect). The chorus is horrid, but the pre-chorus has a huge redeeming value. A trimmed version of You Or Me would probably make my top 50.

BlobVanDam

Not even close. It's not a great song by any stretch, and it has an awkwardly ill-fitting chorus in either version, but there's nothing about it that makes it unlistenable. The worst song on any DT studio album would no doubt have to come from WDADU.

I was trying to think of what the worst song was, and I realized that I always forget this is even a DT album.

The Ones Who Help To Set The Sun, definitely.

Maybe that, or LFAGA. No redeeming qualities in either of them. Every other song on the album has at least something going for it, however minor.

Yeah, that's the other one that I would say.

Honestly, I was reading the lyrics for LFAGA, and they're really beautiful words (as expected from KEvin Moore) but turning them into lyrics, and on this of all songs, it just failed miserably. They may have been beautiful words, but turning them into lyrics did not work at all. Some parts go by so fast you can't even heat what Charlie is saying, and it was like DT mentioned, it was way too wordy. It feels like K-Mo prioritized getting every word he wanted to into the song, over how the song would actually sound.

SeRoX

It's not great but it's not bad. I quite enjoy its chrous.

Exact same here...  :lol

Laughingplace56

I think it is. It's cheesy, boring, absolutely nothing worthwhile in the song. I've tried several times to get into it but I just don't like it at all.

Not when Prophets of War exists.
Yeah, it's a toss-up.

And anything from WDADU gets a pass on "worst ever" because they were just starting out and didn't know any better.  It's their first album, I would expect it to sound like that.

That doesn't change the reality of whether the music is bad or not. Given how many bands have debuted with excellent albums, I've never bought that excuse anyway. Generally speaking, if the material is that bad, they shouldn't have even gotten a record contract and recorded an album.
I'd give a pass to pre-WDADU songs that were never on a DT studio album, but not WDADU material. They recorded it and put their name to it. It's fair game.

If you ask me, there are at least 3 songs on WDADU that they could've replaced with Another Won, and it would've been a better album.

Onno

Yes! Particularly the chorus is bad. You Or Me is a lot better, there are some really cool ideas in that song.

JiM-Xtreme

Close, but not quite. I'd give that particular award to BMU, BMD.

TheGreatPretender

If you ask me, You Not Me isn't even the worst song on the album.

Anyway, I think the point is, there are plenty of songs from studio albums that DT fans dislike more than YNM. I don't see the point of focusing on such negativity.

KevShmev

???  It's one damn thread.  Yeesh.

As for WDADU, I would concede that neither Status Seeker nor The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun are very good, but not "worst DT song ever" material.  Both are certainly better, IMO, than You Not Me or Constant Motion.

Also,  Light Fuse and Get Away is great, so mentions of that are more than just a bit baffling.

Dreamer

I voted Yes because I loathe it, but to be fair there are many other DT songs that I don't listen to too..

Buddyhunter1

2nd worst. Through Her Eyes would be my least favorite.
Quote from: Crow on July 09, 2024, 06:34:55 PMoh yeah you're gonna have a super bad time in my electronic roulette.

son_ov_hades

Not even close when songs like The Dark Eternal Night and Honor Thy Father exist.

Yeah, but it's a thread dedicated specifically to showing hate to one old, harmless song. I feel like it's perpetuating uncreative negativity.

YNM's fine. It's not amazing, but there's interesting ideas in there - I like the solo, I like the riff at the end. If I hadn't come on here, I'd never have expected it to elicit strong feelings one way or another. It doesn't have a black cloud over it.

The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun is far less interesting. I can't even be bothered to remember the name of that one - might be "Help," might be "Helped," no idea!

Then don't bother reading this thread. :)

But I wanna talk to Blob about how bad Light Fuse And Get Away is!

As I Am

Space Dye Vest has this distinction easily....although I quite liked the live version!

Yea, but it's a dry distinction.

Not even the worst on FII.
Yup - that title goes to New Millennium. Never Enough is probably the worst DT song that has appeared on a full-length studio album.

The first time I heard it, I couldn't believe how bad it was. It felt like something I'd hear in a children's breakfast cereal commercial or something. Easily a lowpoint for DT, along with any song that is trying to be Muse.

Damn straight!
I haven't listened to FII in a while, but I mostly agree with that. New Millennium's still got some cool stuff, though.

Cant believe the bashing that The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun is getting!!  :-[ Love the song personally.
