....on a scale from 1 to 10, what is the difference between the two?  (No live or bootlegs)

For instance, my fav is SFAM and I give it a 10.  My least fav is WDADU and I give it a 6.5.  So the difference is 3.5.

Expecting many varied responses.  DT fans are the best!!

Kotowboy

Favourite = Octavarium 8/10 :neverusethis:

Least Favourite = When Dream And Day Unite - 4/10*

* I can't give it a lower score than that because whilst i't a bit ragged and it's not Labrie singing - it still has some good songs on it.

Tom Bombadil

Xersiz

My  Favourite Records are Train of Thought and Black Clouds and Silver Linings which are definitely 10s, and my least favourites are Six Degrees and Falling Into Infinity which are 6 to me. so "4"

RuRoRul

Train Of Thought - 10/10
When Dream And Day Unite - 1/10

So 9.

If we restrict it only to Labrie era albums then we are maybe talking about a difference of 2. Although it all depends how you're treating your scale and what you are comparing it to - in the grand scheme of things, all Labrie era DT albums are a 10.

If you feel that every album from I&W to DT12 is a 10 out of 10, that's fine.   However, I'd be willing to bet that most DT fans and people on this board especially feel very differently.

Except in my post I said the difference between the best and worst would be 2... (indicating an 8/10 being the lowest).

It's just that there is a difference between the score I'd give an album like Awake when comparing it to the other DT albums, or to other music that I like (the 8/10) and comparing it to the entirety of music in existence.

yorost

Train of Thought: 10/10
Octavarium: 3/10

...so 7.

liran95

SFAM and SDOIT: 10
WDADU: 7.5

After listening to WDADU and really really paying attention to the music instead of focusing on Dominici, it's a very good album. I highly recommend on listening to When Dream And Day Reunite.

ZKX-2099

Nekov

SFAM: 10
Octavarium: 4 (I was going to give it a 2 but Octavarium the song doesn't deserve that)

krands85

Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Dellers

SFAM: 10
SC: 3

The rest are closer to SFAM than SC.

SFAM gets a 10/10 from me. WDADU, a 7/10. So a difference of 3.

I can actually sympathize with this. WDADU is itself a pretty solid album, but comparing it to the rest of DT's catalog, it feels so lack-luster and so much less great by comparison.

Favourite - Six Degrees, 10/10
Least favourite - WDADU, 6/10

No, because "?" already represents "?"."?" is an unknown variable, therefore the closest thing to a final answer is "?-0" as it already was.

BlobVanDam

SDOIT - 10 (value derived by the fact the album is perfect)
WDADU - 3 (value derived by rating each song individually and finding the average)

Nah, it's still 1 to 10... ?/10 and 0/10.

EDIT: Let's change my BCLS rating to 1/10 so it fits the "rules of the topic" :tup

It may be an unknown variable, but subtracting zero from it still isn't going to change it.  The difference between any given number and zero will always be that given number.   1-0=1, 2-0=2, 34,567-0=34,567, x-0=x, y-0=y, z-0=z, and ?-0=?.

Anyway, as for me...

Images and Word: 10/10
Black Clouds and Silver Linings: 6/10.

BCSL's rating is pretty arbitrary, though, to be honest.

Scenes From A Memory 10/10
Train Of Thought 2/10

A difference of 8. If Train Of Thought didn't have Stream Of Consciousness I would give it a 1.
