As usual, he does a stellar job.... from Facebook...

QuoteI am incredibly excited to share this new recording we did with you all, here is my take on Dream Theater's False Awakening Suite from their self-titled 12th album, which I'm credited on the album itself as the arranger/conductor for the same track and the closing track Illumination Theory. The album features only strings, but here it is as I've imagined with a full orchestra.

I am very grateful to Berklee College of Music and all my friends who played and helped to make this real, and all of you here around the world, for the support.

Enjoy!! and if you like it, please share!! THANKS!!!

Wow, that was really incredible. I isually just yawn at links like this, but I thoroughly enjoyed that.

Great job, I love it!  Goes perfect with Blobs video (is that gonna be released btw?)

Podaar

Loved it! I'd really dig hearing it with a percussion section as well.

Eren has really made a name for himself in the DT world.  It's admirable and respectable.  And his work is impressive.  He definitely has a bright future ahead of him.

This is pretty much the version I've heard constantly for the past few months, so maybe that explains why I dig this song much more than average. :lol
I love this version, and this is basically the version that's being used for the intro at DT's live shows (with the addition of some extra sounds).

I hope Eren continues to collaborate with DT, because the orchestral moments recently have been among my favourite DT moments.

RaiseTheKnife

It would be great to see this version live in Boston, but that would mean the orchestra would likely be on stage for the entire 3 hour show.  As awesome as that sounds, I find it highly unlikely, so . . .

ariich

This is so good! Seriously, this really should be opening the album. JP talked about wanting to have a "cinematic" intro to the album, but with the rest of the band playing it doesn't sound cinematic, it sounds like power metal (not that there's anything wrong with that in itself, it just doesn't fit what he was going for or the vibe of the rest of the album). With just the orchestra it works so well! Is this arrangement being made available for download or anything?

This should definitely not be opening the album. It's a DT album. False Awakening Suite is one of my favorite songs on the new album. It's very powerful. Why take it off just to put on strings?? I don't understand that.

Eren's version is awesome. Like I said, I usually don't care for stuff like this, but as impressive as his version is, let's not get carried away.

I prefer it this way, getting the two versions.
The whole band version kicks off the album with a beefy orchestral metal track that sets the tone for the album perfectly.
Then live, we get the more cinematic orchestral only arrangement that gives the live shows something unique.

I like both versions equally, so I'm glad there are the two versions.

Oh, so live while your video is playing, that's actually Eren's version..
I've watched the opening night youtube video twice and didn't even notice.

The version used live is Eren's version, with a few additional parts added (sound effects, and additional percussion/brass/choir, I think). Since it uses many of the original sound effects, you could mistake it for the studio track from the low quality of an audience recording on Youtube.

Right, I could've sworn I heard drums.. That's why I figured.

Cool.. Any chance they the Strings play it live in Boston?

I'm not getting carried away with anything, I genuinely think this would be a far superior intro to the album, and would fit much better with the rest of the album. I hope they offer it as some kind of download so that I can use it in that way.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having a version of it myself, I just wouldn't take DT off their OWN album for it.

All of this.

While it matches the video better than the DT version, I wouldn't want to replace the album's version with this one.  The one on the album fits better in an audio-only situation and I feel this one works better when there is also visual going on.  So basically, I prefer it as they've done it.

Indeed.  Is it possible we get more string accompaniment at the Boston show than at Score?  Or does DT rearrange the setlist for this show?

soooo...Which one of you is going to combine this and the studio version and let us download it?  :hat

I am pretty sure DT said specifically that the strings would only be on the second set.  I am thinking for that show they may play all the same songs they currently tour with, just in a different order to get better use of the ensemble.  Just my train of thought.

Eren

Thank you all for your great comments. I couldn't be happier. If anyone wants a lossless copy rather than ripping from YT video, just drop me a message.
I would really love to put more DT (and other) music in this concept, but it has its challenges to it. But in time all is going well, looking back from what I did from 2009's SDOIT and 2011's Octavarium, the quality I've always wanted to reach with the covers finally happened with today's FAS. DT themselves using it as their intro tape just tells it all.

Regarding the Boston show, you might have guessed we won't be on the stage for the entire show, but there's still a great amount of music that will be played together, and it will make sense for all. Instrumentation wise, depending on the area/space we'll play among with all DT stage setup, which probably won't be a huge one (like the one on Score), I'll try to sneak in few more than strings but the default idea is to have the strings. They won't rearrange the setlist, but as I've said there's still a huge portion of music that will feature the orchestra. Actually, it is still somewhat unbelievable for me that it is really going to happen.

Oh also- the original track and orchestral version syncs perfectly if anyone is up to try it  :D, I basically used to same tempo track, with a very slight difference in the beginning.

cramx3

Wow, thanks for the update Eren, awesome work.  I can't make the trip from NJ to Boston for the concert, but I can't wait to see/hear it when it gets released.
