I have tickets for two shows in April, and I want the setlist to be a complete and total surprise. I seriously don't even want to know one song they are playing, so I'll be off DTF for 3 months. I will really miss you all! Then I have the problem of YouTube and Facebook. I'll probably keep a piece of paper or something near me when I go on YouTube to cover up the space where recommended videos are  :lol . That still leaves my DT friends on Facebook who could post a link or something with no notice.. Do I have to block them for 3 months? Ugh  :P

Is anybody else attempting this until a certain show? I can't imagine I'm the only one. Any ideas?

I am extremely positive that for one reason or another you will fail at it.

TheAtliator

I didn't fail at not listening to the Enemy Inside or avoiding spoilers on the second NA leg of the last tour, although I only started avoiding at the beginning of that leg, and they ended up keeping pretty much the same set as the previous leg since it was a different continent.

Evermind

I'm gonna look at the setlist with the first opportunity I'll get.  :lol
Quote from: Train of Naught on May 28, 2020, 10:57:25 PMThis first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Mladen

I will probably do this for about ten days as well. The thing is, Facebook will definitely ruin the surprise for a couple of songs, but I'll stay away from this section of the board as well as some other forums. We'll see if it's worth it.  ;D

Marion Crane

I've never seen a DT show without knowing at least 90% of the setlist ahead of time.  I'm gonna try and remedy that this time around.

DarkLord_Lalinc

I've always had envy for the first shows of the legs. They get the whole surprise without the temptation of looking at spoilers  :lol

JayOctavarium

DT friends on facebook? What are those?

jk

I was just having this mental fight with myself. Do I want to know what the tour will entale? I know I kept myself in the dark for the entire NA tour (all one show) before my show during the first leg... but I said fuck it during the second leg. What to do?

RodrigoAltaf

I remember watching Maiden in 1992 and not knowing ANY song from the setlist - everything was a surprise! And we actually had to buy albums to know what they sounded like or even to look at the tracklist.

This time I´m lucky to catch them at the beginning of the tour (Jan. 16th cannot come soon enough!!) and I´m not on Facebook, so there´s a good chance I´ll be 95% surprised - they´ll open the shows with False Awakening and The Enemy Inside, for sure!

I have been in Helsinki show 2 times when they started tour from there. It was good that I didn't know the setlist but I still would like to see a show towards the end of the tour because JP always says that their first show is a bit tense and over trying. Hopefully I will see their show in 24th February!!

I will try to avoid the setlist as far as I can but if I see some song somewhere it's not so bad thing. I still don't know where it will played and which kind of version it will be!

Destiny Of Chaos

I've never been to a concert where I knew the setlist. It's easy enough to avoid spoilers. When I went to ProgNation in 2009, Jordan's setlist could be seen every time that camera panned on his main keyboard. That was tough. It's also tough when in the front row at a smaller gig and the roadies tape the setlists on the stage. It' all about that willpower.

Same here. If it's going to be a set that's really up my street, then it's still going to be amazing, whether it's a surprise or not. If it ends up being a set I'm not too keen on, then I can sort of go in prepared and won't be as bummed out as I would be if I had no idea what they were going to play. Plus I'll enjoy checking out clips on Youtube to see how things are shaping up before they come to the UK too.

Bit of a negative/pessimistic way of looking at it I guess, but that's just me  :lol I can totally see where people who want to keep it a surprise are coming from.

Although even with alternating sets in Europe the last time, I still got a surrpise - as they did 2 set 'A's in a row or whatever which changed the order and gave Glasgow the better (IMO) setlist.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

KevShmev

Ideally, I'd love to avoid the set lists or any spoilers, but I have zero willpower when it comes to that kind of stuff.  Granted, I haven't seen the band in 10 years now since they never come to St. Louis anymore, but a few of us are considering making the trek to Chicago, and yet I know I still won't be able to not check out what they are playing. :lol :lol

Me too :lol I've never been able to avoid spoiling setlists for myself, even if I've seen a band live just a couple of nights after the first show of the tour/leg.

Was that at Merriweather Post Pavilion? I was there too, remember being so annoyed by JR's setlist in our face every minute :lol

Sacul

Spoiler: They will play songs from the new album.

Gl, man on this one.  It's a very daunting task to embark on for three months.  I can't even imagine, myself, lasting a month without seeing the setlist of a band that is starting to tour once again.

Heck, I'm sure that once the 1st DT show of the tour is over, I'm heading to setlist.fm and I'm going to see what they played.

TheAtliator

It has nothing to do with will power for me. I don't want to see it. Therefore I will not look at it. But I want to make sure I don't see anything anywhere by accident.

And when I do want to see something I also search the hell out of the internet and wait during the show for setlist.fm to be updated. I will probably be starting that the moment I get home from the second concert  :lol

BelichickFan

I'm going to the same shows as TheAtliator.  I'll have to find him just before the first show and tell him the set list

Personally I couldn't do it.   I can't wait for the tour to begin to see what they're playing.

Kev, I am going to try that KC date even though it's on a Wed. night. I'm bummed about not getting to go to the Chicago date but I'm in a fishing tournament that weekend down at Table Rock Lake. Let me know if you think you'd want to try to make that KC show though.

When I talked to Jordan a few days later in Asbury Park I brought that up, he said it was an unfortunate mistake, and one he didn't realize during the show, but that they made sure it wouldn't happen again.

Yeah I was just playing.  Imagine the horror of avoiding everything for 3+ months then to find out, however it happened, the day of the show  :eek

Will do.  KC would have more ideal for my whole clan, but it being in the middle of the week just isn't convenient for most.

JiM-Xtreme

This is a great idea. Think I'll have to give this a go myself! Granted, I don't have nearly as long to wait (Feb. 13th)...

I kinda have the best of this.  Opening night of the NA tour... so there's a decent likelihood they'll mix up the setlist, but still be loose and have all the kinks worked out from the European Tour.
