I'll try not to look at the setlist but it'll be much easier for me, show is on February 3rd (less then a month, can't wait :D )

Zydar

I'll be seeing them on February 22, but I'm curious as to what they'll be playing so I will check out setlists and various discussions about the shows so far.

rickhawk80

I'm not seeing them until the KC show in April.  The gods and planets have aligned against me in the past and whenever they have played near me some issue or another has prevented my attendance.  This is the FIRST time I'm finally getting to see them live, so anything and everything they play is good with me!

I still recall the good old pre-Internet days when everyone went to shows with no idea what the setlist would be.  Those were also the days when the lead singer could say, "We're going to play something for you now that we've never played before" and there was no way for you to know whether he had fed the same b.s. to the crowd in Omaha the previous night, and Chicago the night before that..... :lol

Sometimes I like checking a setlist beforehand, but at times it just ratchets up the disappointment if a set changes by a song or two from a few nights before and you don't get something you were planning on hearing.  I saw the Cult "Electric 13" tour a few weeks ago and they inexplicably dropped "Zap City" from the set the night I saw them, which kinda pissed me off not getting that rarity.  If I had not looked at the setlist in advance I would have had no idea that happened and would've been perfectly happy with the other 95% of the setlist we got. :yeahright

TheGreatPretender

I'll probably try to avoid seeing what songs they play to the best of my ability. But I might actually make a list of my LEAST favorite songs, and find out if they are playing any of them, just so that I'm not disappointed.

fadetoblackdude7

I too want this tour to be a complete surprise, but I have zero will power lol. It's gonna be hard to avoid setlist.fm, DTF and youtube but I'm gonna try my hardest. I guess the best way is to (try to) forget that they're even on tour. I might cave, but I also might surprise myself. I envy the people seeing the first show of the tour hahaha.

Gonna be a rough 3 months  :(

son_ov_hades

I've never been to a show where I knew the setlist. Tours where a band plays entire albums I always know about that, most recently when I saw Trans Siberian Orchestra play The Lost Christmas Eve. But I don't want to know setlists so I just don't look at them, not difficult. I don't have really any friends who are into the type of music I like so that's not a problem, and I know how to avoid seeking them out online.

Walking dead spoilers is a different story...

The Curious Orange

I managed to successfully avoid setlist spoilers for the 2011 European dates, and was glad I did. I've got a month between the first show in Portugal and the UK dates, so I'm gonna try to do it again. Like many people here, I tend to find that knowing the setlist increases my anticipation of the show, but not knowing increases my enjoyment on the night.

Ideally, I'd love to avoid the set lists or any spoilers, but I have zero willpower when it comes to that kind of stuff.

For me, it's not so much an issue of willpower as it is just not really being able to avoid it if I'm modding the forum properly.  Ideally, I'd probably prefer to not know.  But it's pretty unavoidable, so I just don't worry about it.

OsMosis2259

I'll give it a try avoiding the setlist as well. I'm not really feeling too good about this though :)

TheGreatPretender

I just read a new interview with DT members and realized that if you want to avoid set list spoilers, you'll have to avoid interviews as well. Good luck, fellas!

I'm not counting those  :P if the band members feel like telling us in advance what they're going to play, it's up to them - and I will assume they have good reason to do so!  ;)

TheAtliator

I was going to start avoiding interviews when the tour starts.. But did they give anything away about something that's not on the new album? If so, please do not tell me what it is, and I'll start avoiding certain things now!

Cool Chris

I went to the ADToE show without knowing anything about the setlist. At least for the N American leg. First time I'd ever done that for any band. It was tough to stay away from those threads in the forum, but it was a pretty cool experience. I plan on doing it again for this tour.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

SomeoneLikeHim

I'll do my best to avoid it, but I won't isolate myself completely or anything like that.

Yup.
Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite
Basically Kyoko Kirigiri

Rodni Demental

It would be be cool going to a show not knowing the setlist, but truth is I'm gonna be all over the setlists when they're out, analysing every detail to determine a whole bunch of not a lot. But it'll be fun.

GasparXR

I definitely want to know the setlists. It's mostly just curiosity, and I'll be happy with pretty much anything they play anyway. :P

TheAtliator

By the way.. Unfortunately this also means I'm going to temporarily un-follow and un-like certain fb and twitter pages like DTF  :sadpanda:

I actually want to even try to avoid pictures of the tour. I think it'd be so cool to come to the show never having seen the new stage set up and (most importantly) microphone stand.

SystematicThought

I can't help but look.

I'm excited to see what they do production wise. Each tour they get bigger and more visual. I do hope they don't repeat those cube screens though. They were cool, but something new would be better.

Plus they keep on saying how they want to bring the audience in right away when they step into the venue so it will be interesting to see how they achieve that.

mikemangioy

I'm doing it. But my conert is 2 weeks away eheh

RodrigoAltaf

Got an email yesterday with instructions for the meet & greet in Pamplona on the 17th! I´m pumped!

genome

If it's like the last tour they will rotate two setlists, but seeing as it's a 3-hour show, maybe not.

I'll be checking the setlist but I will not be watching any bootlegs / youtube recordings. I want to save that for the night.

BlobVanDam

I already know spoilers for probably most of the show, but regardless I've always enjoyed waiting for each tour to start, then scouring for bootleg videos on Youtube, setlists, seeing the stage setup etc. I love seeing the whole show come together, and following that progression throughout the entire tour process.

I'll be doing the same thing. I want to know the set, but i won't watch any youtube videos of any of the songs they're playing. The set might change for the US dates a little, but i doubt that it'll be more than 2-3 songs.
I also plan to not listen to any version of the songs they'll be playing for at least 2 weeks so that when the night comes, I'll be even more excited to hear those songs.

Dark Castle

I find this funny because I just find it incredibly easy to not look up a setlist from a previous night, and stuff like spoilers almost never shows up on Facebook for me, and if it even does, I usually don't even realize that it's for a tour I'm going to see  :lol

It's a lot more difficult to avoid spoilers if you're a regular in DT side, but otherwise it's not too hard to avoid. I mean, if you're hanging out at a fan forum, you have to expect there may be spoilers. :lol

BlobVanDam makes the 3D videos for the show. Of course he know some of the songs that will be played  :lol

TheAtliator

It's only hard for me because I've already seen everything old on youtube and know pretty much every song they've played on every tour, so if someone were to share on FB for example "Dream Theater - The Killing Hand" even without the "Live 2014", and James has a goatee in the thumbnail- BOOM spoiler and there's no going back. And I'm also going to remember it FOREVER. I can NEVER forget setlist songs for Dream Theater and Styx. So rather than just not purposely going to it, I actually have to carefully avoid it.

The same thing would happen to me if I tried as well. :lol Thankfully I don't care if any of the setlist gets spoiled for myself.

Frosthawk

I've been a fan of Dream Theater for 10 years and this tour, finally, will be the first time I've ever seen them live. That said, the show I'm going to is not until the 15th of April, so there is absolutely no way I'm not going to be looking at the setlist between now and then. I'm way too amped to find out what songs they'll be playing.

I will probably do this for about ten days as well. The thing is, Facebook will definitely ruin the surprise for a couple of songs, but I'll stay away from this section of the board as well as some other forums. We'll see if it's worth it.  ;D

So, the tour starts tonight, huh? I'm already reconsidering this decision.  :lol

JiM-Xtreme

Well, since the tour starts tonight I guess I'll sign off for a while. Laters! ;D

Me, too haha :D I want to see every video clip on YT that'll be uploaded and setlist but also want my first DT show to be suprise. I don't know what to do :P

Ben_Jamin

Since I don't think I'll make a show, I'm going to look.
