Have to pause it for the next Hour/hourandahalf for class, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Jaq

Never mind the album, NEW FORUM THEME  :lol

Listening to it in a bit, got some things to do and want to give it my undivided attention. Thoughts forthcoming!

Anybody who doesn't weep like a girl during the orchestral section of Illumination Theory GTFO.

....or at the very end........

As I said before, I don't like the end at all. :lol

atmyne

oh hi new theme!
hate to be the bummer, but alot of this album didn't do much for me. I don't think I'm into DT as much anymore :(
However, my favorite so far has been surrender to reason, with honorable mentions to IT and looking glass.
I'll give it more listens when it comes out, but I'm just kinda bummed that I didn't enjoy this as much as I have enjoyed previous releases DESPITE the fact that this sounds like pretty good DT. I imagine People at the peak of their DT fandom will be/are grinning ear to ear listening to this though :)

PixelDream

'Behind the Veil' just ended, I at least liked it right away. Not amazing, but still a good song with nice riffs and solos.

JPX

Trial of Tears vibe on The Looking Glass solo.

Shame about the chorus though, COMPLETELY ruins the song.

mocool13

Surrender to Reason is amazing. Illumination Theory is about to start!!!

Love the light theme for this album cycle.  Great work XJDenton.

Anyway, I am in love with The Looking Glass.  A beautiful upbeat rock song.  Can't remember the last time DT did something like this.

moof

I like the new theme. Surrender to reason has gotta be the best song they've done for years.

I totally love this album. Top 5 material, easy. Perhaps even top 3

morkie

I am just absolutely speechless and moved right now, to tears.

Special moment for me. It might not be that way for others but for me right now this morning sitting here, it's special.

Footage of Blob weeping like a girl at the orchestral section of IT has officially become my #1 most important thing to acquire before I die.

PixelDream

Everything I've heard so far surpasses the two singles by a mile.

Surrender to Reason: That guitar solo with the phaser-effect on it is so cool! It even sounds like he's hitting some strings by accident, just going for it without worrying about technique too much. That's something JP's not exactly known for, but very surprising and cool to hear.

Top 5...radio charts? Surely you jest. I mean I like it, but I've long since resigned myself to the fact that DT will never be "popular" outside its fringe demographic.

Surrender To Reason is fantastic, and I like AFTR more and more every time I listen to it.

AngelBack

Unfreakingbelievable...just....damn.

And I miss MP a lot less as of right now.

The Enigma Machine sounds like a more boring version of the instrumental sections of The Shattered Fortress.

Super dissappointed with it.

Mangini was the wrong choice people, could be a drum machine for all I know.

theanalogkid7

I just started the stream and I'm going to have to wait until the CD comes out I think - these stream qualities just aren't great.

That being said, False Awakening Suite reminds me a bit of the opening of The Odyssey by Symphony X.

No, no! Top 5 Dream Theater! Should have clarified. Don't want to rank it yet but it's up there with IW, Awake, SDOIT and SFAM.

The best album since SDOIT, to me, period.

I'm not quite sure yet, but the whole False Awakening Suite really had a strong SDOIT vibe.

XJDenton

So yeah, this album is pretty f-ing awesome. I like that I can actually hear Myung for a change.

And I'm glad the IT intro isn't as long and boring as the SDOIT overture :D

adastra

Oh shit!! This Classical stuff in the middle of Illumination theory is so beautiful... What a f$ck lol.

The SDOIT overture is better.

So is Enigma Machine actually doomy, or is Rolling Stone fucking stupid with their genre labels per usual?  :lol
Can't listen myself right now, as I'm in class heh.

Bolsters

I thought we might break 1000 simultaneous people online here at DTF with this album stream, but it looks like we peaked at 700 because it's going down. :( Am disappoint.

Same here. I can understand why they chose the songs they did, but so far after one full listen TEI is probably my least favourite song, and I'm not really sure about where AFTR would fit, but there's a whole lot of stuff I know I like more.

I know what you mean, that thought occurred to me also. The Genie truly has been unleashed for this one. :metal

The orchestral section in the middle of IT...absolutely beautiful and moving...

WildeSilas

Wait, I think I missed something - listening to the Rolling Stone stream. False Awakening seemed really short and had no vocals. Did they do something wrong?

It's not doomy. It's heavy and riffy and a little chaotic.
