DT's too mainstream now.. Bye guys.

James doesn't even have a thigh gap anyway
, so I couldn't possibly enjoy their new music.

And DT is all technical with no emotion, people can't relate, so they won't win.

I just thought of another reason why we can't vote anymore.....

The poll closed, we won.

Anguyen92

It is really closed?  It's over, DT won?

:omg: :omg: :omg:

Wow, I didn't really think that DT could/would win a poll like this.

When Apple first released the Ipod it was a huge deal in the music community, apparantly thats reason enough.

On another note - does this now mean that Dream Theater is TRENDY  ::)

Of course, DT have sold out because there's only one 10+ minute song on the new album.

I'm not listening to DT anymore, they're too cool

Ok, just clearing a few things up;

1: I don't think in any way that prog interest makes me greater than anyone.

2: I see a correlation in people who listen to music about sex and other smut and people who have no respect, there are of course outliers so to speak.

3: I do agree that in some circumstances there is actually a few good chart songs occasionally (Daft punk)

4: I personally believe that it is the music that is helping bring the next generation up with no respect with the contents of the songs

SystematicThought

I remember when I listened to the song Home by Dream Theater, I just lost all of the respect that I had...

I'm sorry, you are entitled to your opinions, but I feel bad that you see that correlation.  I don't think the music has much to do with it, there are many other factors.

It's not what you write about, it's how you do it. Sex is an intriguing subject and could constitute the basis for great music and lyrics. (e.g. "I don't need your mercy fuck to get me through the day").  :P

Whenever somebody writes that, I read it in her voice. https://youtu.be/lj3iNxZ8Dww?t=10s

I actually meant in more of an 'in your face' kind of way like "F**king Bitches every night, getting paper" etc...

That's why I said "the music that is helping bring the next generation..."

SystematicThought

The first one was more of a joke.

And as for the last thing you quoted me on, I just think it's a cold view to have. I think music is a very small part of the respect issue with kids these days. There are many other factors and then farther FARTHER down the list, it's music. Music for quite a while has had songs about sex and drugs--80s Arena Rock, 70s Rock, etc. Maybe not as in your face, but it was there.

jonnybaxy

I agree it has been there but not in actual words most of the time, it was between the lines rather than blatantly there in text..

I agree that there are more important things that bring people up e.g parents, environment and friends but I, without a doubt, see a correlation between these disrespectful people and the music.. For example how many times do you see a teenager blasting out Rush at the back of a bus?  :lol

Kotowboy

51%  :metal

Oh man - can we get it to 58% just to really seal the deal ? :lol

Sorry, dude. I have to disagree. The vast, vast majority of people listen to pop music. Therefore, it only makes sense that the majority of assholes listen to pop music. I really don't think it has to do with the music.

jonnybaxy

I see where you're coming from but I would really say that there are more of them per 100 fans to any other genre

I agree. This is like the old argument about TV/movies/videogames/music destroying the young generation, with some musical elitism thrown in for good measure. :P

A win here means nothing, guys.

Remember how DT won in a Rolling Stone poll against prominent prog greats like Rush, Yes, and King Crimson? In the article, they were sure to address how DT utilized social media and internet groups to get votes.

The difference here being that Grammy.com has been relatively supportive of the group. They gave them a nomination for On the Backs of Angels, cut a deal to premiere Along for the Ride, and did a Q&A with John Petrucci.

RollingStone wouldn't do any of that.

Is it only me, or when I read that in like a singing voice or something, I got some sort of death metal vibe or something?  That weird low gruff, almost sink disposal, sound voice?

?

JLB: "Those lifeless nerds at DTF made us beat Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry in the Grammy poll... Can you believe that?!"
MM: "Don't insult them, watch your tooooneeee!"
JM: "..."

(ok, this was partially based on a caption someone else came up with in the summer but it felt appropriate to use it now :lol)

I actually listen to a ton of modern pop music. They make great tracks for running at the gym, and I can get a fresh playlist every few weeks.

Yeah  :lol That really caught me by surprise. I literally said to myself, "Well I'll be damned..."
