So we now have a band with drums high on the mix again, and with a heavy song without trying to sound like Metallica-wannabes while still keeping their prog DNA. What else can we ask for?

Orthogonal

About what I expected. That is good or bad depending on how you look at it. Certainly beats the pants off CM and AROP as singles. Feels like a safe and standard DT rocker. Looking forward to more.

Beautiful Agony

After hearing the guitars I want some chocolate cake.

Damn you Petrucci!
:lol

WindMaster

This is sick. I love it.  one of their heaviest intros yet, and Mangini is fucking killing it. Mix sounds great also, a lot better than ADTOE's, which I hated. I can't wait for this album to drop.

And fuck, I can't say enough about how I love the heavy.

I predict this will hit my workout mix. This makes me want to go lift weights or something.

Thanks for the suggestion, because I'm gonna lift in an hour or so

You're welcome! :D I try.

Oh, man. I've listened something like 6 or 7 times now and I just want the first minute of this song to follow me around wherever I go. If anyone sees me air drumming to this song they're gonna think I need medical assistance. It's just the perfect DT/Megadeth fusion. This is also a song that you HAVE to listen to LOUD. Also, now that we pretty much have all the lyrics, is it possible that it's about addiction. That's the vibe I get (no magic pill will bring it back again).

I FREAKING LOVE IT AFTER 1 LISTEN!

I  get a total MEGADETH vibe into and after the first verse.  but then the chorus just blows me away and great finish.  perfect first release.  i loved OTBOA and i feel this is a better single than that!!

Same here. It basically IS the "Sudden Death" riff (after the intro, around the 1:00 mark)! Which I have no problem with; it pumps.

One of the best "heavy" DT singles for sure

Totally agree with it. Was expecting something similar. Pretty satisfied atm. Loved the drums :D

phentalmyst

anyone have the link to where MM said rich asked him to detune? i don't remembering seeing that anywhere...

gentaishinigami

I feel like there is a little Periphery nod or two in the guitars and some JLB solo album type stuff here and there.  I like it! :D

Octavaripolis

After listens all I can say is that this album is going to be great.

Meatrose

I'm relieved. Now I know that the nuances of Mike's playing is audible on this record.

I can never judge a song or a record after just hearing it once or twice. If this is the BMU,BMD of DT12 I'll have to say I'm officially hyped though.

Whatsername

I've always wondered if maybe I'm too easily pleased. Out of the 110 Dream Theater tracks I have, I actively enjoy and listen to 91 of them. You guys are discussing things like the snare is pillow-y or something about triggers, and I feel like I'm the little kid at the adult's table. :lol

Fnejk

Yep, getting a real chocolate cake vibe from the guitar.
Sick track  :metal

They need to figure out a solution for that!

Nekov

Just an OK track if you ask me. While it has a couple of sections where classic DT is displayed, the song overall is pretty forgettable. Like it happens in most of ADTOE, I feel like they're throwing technicality just for the sake of it instead of building around it.

JPX

So I decided that instead of not listening at all, that I would do the listen 1 time thing:

I don't really know why everyone is saying the intro is so heavy, I thought it was quite tame personally. The Glass Prison intro crushes this.

I really liked everything Jordan did. The drums didn't impress me in any way. Neither did JP. Neither did James.

Overall it was a pretty boring song with some cool parts, pretty much what I expecting I guess.

Millais

Well, it makes this early, badly translated review of the entire album seem even more plausible.

That makes me even more excited.

Trial of Thought

as an Indonesian fan (am I the only one around here ??? ) I only can say

DT CMOE INDONESIA PLZ, MNAGINI DURM GOD!  ;D

and love the Cholocate cake Guitar

Damn heavy song, love it.  Drum mix is a huge improvement, louder without the overwhelming cymbals from SC or BC&SL.

Sounds too much like Caught in a Web for my liking.

And there is something wrong with caught in a web???

I'm not sure that review is officially official enough to be posted (not trying to play couch-mod, I swear!)

It's times like these I can appreciate it though. I think DT would have had to been actively trying to make a bad song for me to dislike it, and maybe not even then. xD

Same here...and for the record, I don´t get the analogy of the chocolate cake guitars either. Where do they get these from? Are we allowed to use this in our professions as well? If that´s the case, I´m doing a ProjectPlan this afternoon and hope it tastes like Sunday breakfast with an extra bacon slice. I wonder what my boss will think of it.
