"It consists mainly of lessons regarding various Catholic feasts."   :lol

?

Where did they get that from? :lol

Also, I bet this is the correct tracklist for the vinyl edition (I doubt it would fit on a single LP): https://www.recordshopx.com/artist/dream_theater/octavarium/#2lp
QuoteSide 1
The Root of All Evil
The Answer Lies Within
These Walls
Side 2
I Walk Beside You
Panic Attack
Side 3
Never Enough
Sacrificed Souls
Side 4
Octavarium

Yeah, I noticed that too. Anyway, I'm surprised that this is coming out so soon, especially considering that the Six Degrees LP was released just a while ago.

I'm really, really skeptical of the MoV vinyl operation. I'm skeptical of Brookvale, too, but at least those sound good.

Maybe Brookvale should merge with MoV and we'd get DT vinyls that looked AND sounded good lol.

MOV has been around a long time and has handled some extremely high profile contracts for many, many classic albums — everything from Motown artists to Silverchair. in fact, most of their releases are big money makers. their track record has been great as far as i've read (haven't bought any yet, as my taste seems to rarely coincide with what they happen to put out).

with that said, they did a silly job splitting SDOIT across the sides, but it seems entirely possible that was a record label decision, or even the band.

Err.. What?  LP's don't sound good with more than 18-22 minutes per side. Cramming that much audio into one side would lead to skips and crap quality. I don't even think it's possible to fit that much on one side of an LP either way.

I think he meant the way the songs were divided up regarding the sides, and not that the title track should have all been on one side.

indeed, i should have specified i meant the album, not the title track! :lol

speaking timewise, this would have worked better:
A. The Glass Prison (side=13:52) short side, but what else can you do?
B1. Blind Faith
B2. Misunderstood (side=19:55)

C1. The Great Debate
C2. Disappear (side=20:29)
D. SDOIT part 1

E. SDOIT part 2
F1-4. perhaps all four radio edits

or the final side of the third disc a fancy logo etching or something — although, the pure black wax without grooves in it looks pretty awesome too, if only because you never see it. the last side of NIN's Pretty Hate Machine remastered vinyl looks like this and it's... interesting.

I knew you meant the title track. All the same you can't fit that all on one side. It just had to get split up somehow. Even in your example it's split across discs rather than sides. I fail to see the difference?

There is some discussion that ETR's 6DOIT and 8VM vinyls will be 3 LPs.. so perhaps it'll be more to your liking then.

We're talking about SDOIT as the album, not the title track. What's he's commenting on is the specific placing of songs on sides. I don't think anyone is suggesting that the title track could all fit on one side (probably more along the lines of giving the title track one vinyl, split into two sides, rather than throwing Disappear in with the first half).

With an album so specifically designed for the CD format like SDOIT was, vinyl spacing is going to be a bit wonky regardless, but yeah, ETR's 3LP release will probably have spacing that makes a bit more sense (though I don't really have any issue with the MOV release).

Mine came today via Amazon. Glare intentional so you guys don't bitch about the misalignment of the last ball.  :rollin

TL

Ordered mine a month ago from Canadian Amazon, and its current status is 'Shipping Soon' with today as the estimated shipping date. It's currently listed as 'In Stock', so hopefully it heads out today.

I'm really worried that this is going to become a 'thing' though. I've had a pre-ordered item that was listed as In Stock on Amazon go from 'Shipping Soon' to 'Not Currently Available' without shipping before.

I've only had that happen with seemingly high demand items that they perhaps didn't get enough initial stock of. Like James Labrie's Impermanent resonance. It was listed as OOS on release day but mine shipped a day later.  Sort of a weird situation.

I ordered my 8VM LPs on 7/27.

Did you buy yours from American Amazon? The Canadian and American branches may as well be two completely different companies when it comes to certain things (with the Canadian one almost always being worse).

Yes. I'm in the USA.

And now my order has officially been shipped, and I was just being overly pessimistic for no reason.
Can't wait to give it a spin when it gets here.

My copy arrived today! The packaging looks fantastic! Can't wait to give it a spin.

Any more reviews on the sound quality of this vinyl reissue? So far, I have only see two reviews so far but both of them have been very positive reviews.  :)

Sorry to hear that. You should definitely contact them and see if you can get a replacement copy.

Pockets,

The sound quality is amazing (for this kind of music). The dynamics are huge and you can hear/feel the kick drum thudding away. Also, Myung is back! You can clearly hear his deep and mean bass sound that was almost non-existent on the cd's. Furthermore, the highs are clear but smooth, with no emphasis in these frequencies (something that's been common with DT except for the earlier albums). My only caveat is the lack of more artwork. Since this package is more expensive than some of their other vinyls, I was surprised to find clear inner sleeves instead of the printed ones. It does, however, have a single seperate sheet with the lyrics, though. The inner sleeves, though, are of a higher quality than usual - a type that I've never seen before... :P
The pressing is pristine. No surface noise whatsoever!

The inner sleeves are probably poly lined and I'm glad to hear your very descriptive review! I can't wait to hear the album in a couple days since my prog friend and I each ordered a copy.  :tup

I finally got to listening to this. Man, this baby sounds great! The packaging is great, the thick plastic inner sleeves I definitely approve of, the vinyl is pretty much dead quiet, and so far every part of this recording sounds better but as usual, the guitar and keyboards benefit the most from the uncompressed audio. Also, the bass, the BASS! You know, I think that they actually pressed this record from the Analog tapes because I'm hearing some tape hiss during the quiet parts of this record. (I am at "These Walls" now)

I've been the most pleased with this and the Six Degrees Double Vinyl. Those two have benefited the most from the high resolution and the natural uncompressed sound. Scenes would be 3rd best and Images and Words was already an awesome sounding record but just benefited from the higher resolution. Bring on Awake and Falling Into Infinity!!

That's great to hear! I just purchased a turntable after years without one and have been mainly using this site for news about releases. Seems like a great time to be a Dream Theater fan with a turntable! Last time I had a turntable getting a DT album on vinyl was a rarity. Though I'm a little late on getting them from a record shop or on Enjoy the Ride or Music on Vinyl's websites. I have their newest album and it sounds killer on vinyl, I also have Octavarium coming - got pretty lucky and got it for $15 on eBay. So pumped to hear it as it was my first DT album when it first came out.
