At 2:05 he says "I was not on that" and doesnt sign the vinyl. Do you think it might be out of respect for Charlie Dominici? Or simply because he wasnt in the band at the time?

BlobVanDam

I think it's simply because he wasn't on it, which is inclusive of most other reasons too. I'd feel weird signing something I wasn't a part of, even if it is the same band.

Speaking of CD, I hadn't checked his website in aaaages. Kinda surprised it's even still running. His last post is ... interesting.

Who knew a member of our very own DT would go on to be a famous inventor!

rumborak

Cute idea, but he's not understanding the market. The people who answer texts while driving *want* to reply while driving. The ones who don't don't reply anyway. So, his idea doesn't really have a market. Aside from technological considerations anyway (do people have to activate and deactivate this every time they drive? That's not gonna happen)

I'd feel weird even asking... Like, asking Mike Mangini to sign Scenes From A Memory... It's just not right.

That's completely fair enough.

Could you post it or share a link? I can't find his posts anywhere...

I can get why he wouldn't sign it. He didn't sing on it. Not sure why anyone would want him to, that's like asking Charlie to sign I&W or Derek to sign ToT.  :lol

I was just thinking how funny it would be to see him on Shark Tank.

Why would somebody want James' signature on an album he wasn't on? It is kinda provoking.

Eh, not really.  Neither one of them have ever performed on any of those songs.  With the situation with James, even though he wasn't on any of the studio recordings, he has performed all of those songs live and is the singer in the band now.  It's not really that out of place.

I did something kind of similar in the past, but it was just a bit different.  This was a situation where a certain band released their signature album with their original lineup years ago, and since then have had a few members changes.  But that is really universally considered to be the definitive album by the band, and all members afterward have played those songs live.  At various shows and events over the years, I've gotten signatures on that album from all members past and present (with the exception of one who passed away, unfortuntely).  Yeah, some of those later members didn't play on the album, but they played all (or at least most) of those songs multiple times.  Those songs became theirs for the time they were in the band.  I thought it appropriate to have that one definitive album with all the members' signatures as kind of my personal memento of the band that I could display.  None of them had any problem with that whatsoever.

This reminded me of the time I saw Spock's beard live and asked Ryo to sign my The Light T-Shirt, being completely unaware that Ryo didn't play on that particular album. I found out about it months later and felt kinda silly, but it's not a big deal, I guess.  ;D

Derek didn't want to sign my Majesty bootleg, saying that he doesn't sign things he is not on, but I remarked that it was recorded during same time he was also at Berklee and the irony was irresistible.  He signed it anyway.

Myung once gave me a flummoxed reaction when I asked him to sign a picture of him playing keyboards in Nightmare Cinema.  Not his favorite memory, but I love the pic (he looks equally bad ass on the keys!! (a smooth Ninja)) and I was thrilled to have it signed.

One time Charlie signed my WDADU Cd liner.  He flipped it open and noticed that the every photo in the liner were signed by DT, save one:  Kevin Moore.  "Good luck getting that one," he joked.

I'm not a big autograph seeker, but these moments stand out.

Cool Y&T story, bro.

Those guys are probably just happy that someone has asked them to sign something.

Seriously though, I would've given James a copy of WDADRu to sign. No issue at all with him not signing it, and I wouldn't ask him anyway.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

After watching that vid  I started to think that how much stuff can I bring for them to sign? :D
Is it ok to ask Petrucci to sign my DT12 and Ibanez JPM?  Or should I just ask for one signature.

When I did the meet & greet package in Boston a LONG time ago there were several dudes there with guitars and bass guitars for Petrucci and Myung to sign, and most of those people also had CDs, Posters, etc.....it wasn't a problem.

BlobVanDam

When I went to M&G, I recall their being a limit of 2 objects to sign (although I'm not sure how strict they were about enforcing that). There's always that one guy with a JPMM, although I don't recall if they had anything else to sign too.

Madman Shepherd

I did the M&G in 2011 and they asked that we limit our autographs to one or two.  It was pretty much a request though because people brought more stuff and they werent strict about it.  When they were telling us the rules they even said they weren't going to be strict about it but asked us to limit our discussions, etc just to keep things flowing.

To be honest, he always looks kinda pissed.  When I met him he looked like he didnt want to be there but he was the one I really wanted to meet.  I told him about how much I liked his lyrics and I really want him to write more for DT.  I also told him I had tickets for his solo tour that was canceled and he rolled his eyes and bitched about the people who screwed that up.  But he was thankful for my words and extended his hand for me to shake after the promoters told us not to try to shake their hands because of germs.  So even though he "looked" pissed, I just got the feeling that is his normal demeanor when he is not in his overly friendly and goofy mood so I wasn't offended at all and he was clearly appreciative of what I said.

Maybe he has learned that habit from a certain ex-keyboardist :P

This, I have no clue why anyone would want him to sign that.
