Overture wouldn't be bottom 10 material for me, but I completely agree with what you said about it: Overture 1928 is far better and Six Degrees has never felt like one song for me anyway.

:tdwn Don't agree with that at all. SDOIT Overture is how you do it right. While I love Overture 1928, it feels half-assed to me compared to the SDOIT Overture, which is a melodic masterpiece, and a beautiful introduction to the song.

And I'm not a fan of LTL. Weakest song on IaW imo, and wouldn't make my top 50.
WTF Blob

Oh come on, hef. Like you didn't already know I was that weird.

Rhayader

Overture worst than Prophets of War? LOL

And putting Panic Attack and These Walls close to Learning to Live? DOUBLE LOL

Yeah, but you had me going for a second there.

#7 BEST:
Endless Sacrifice (Train Of Thought)

Train Of Thought is my 2nd favorite Dream Theater album, so naturally, there's going to be a couple songs from it in my top ten. The main reason Endless Sacrifice is this high is that badass instrumental section. Easily one of DT's finest in my opinion, and that's saying a lot. A lot of people criticize it for not having much to do with the rest of the song, and while I can see that side of the argument, it hardly matters to me when it's so freaking awesome. Plus, it's nice that this song covers a lot of ground. Without the contrast provided by the melancholy, quiet verses to the heavy choruses and instrumental section, I feel like this song wouldn't have been anywhere near as good. It works fine for me, and there's not really anything else to complain about. Awesome song.

#7 WORST:
Anna Lee (Falling Into Infinity)

[insert anal joke here]
...And here we have the first song from Falling Into Infinity to show up into the bottom ten. Get used to it, folks, because there's a lot more where that came from... Anyways, there's not much to say about this song. It's just not very good. It's pretty much your run-of-the-mill ballad. Dream Theater has plenty of ballads, and 95% of them are better than this one. While it has some pretty moments, it's extremely forgettable for the most part. Moving on.

Anna Lee is a good song, but not typically the one I go to when I'm in the mood for a ballad. Endless Sacrifice is phenomenal, and very underrated around here imho.

I definitely prefer Anna Lee to Endless Sacrifice.

:tup for Endless Sacrifice. It's my favorite from Train Of Thought.

GasparXR

I enjoy Endless Sacrifice. Not one of my favourites by any means but I always enjoy it when it's on. But Anna Lee is fantastic!! Boo!!!

(you're not incorrect though it's your opinion) <- said no-one ever at DTF

I definitely prefer Anna Lee to Endless Sacrifice.

Likewise.
Anna Lee is a beautiful and underrated song, and it makes me a sad panda that there are more songs from FII on your list to come. I hope it's just BMS/TAMP/YNM.

Endless Sacrifice is ok, but it's aged the worst out of the ToT songs for me, and it's the one song on the album I never listen to anymore. I love the instrumental section though.

?

I've never liked Anna Lee, but Endless Sacrifice is good.

Ruba

Endless Sacrifice used to be a top 2 song for me, but nowadays I think I'll prefer Anna Lee.

Rhayader

Anna Lee is terrible while Endless Sacrifice is good, but DT has much better songs.

wolven74

I didn't like Anna Lee the first few times I heard it. I always skipped over it. But on an album very near the bottom of my faves, that is one of my favorite songs.

#6 BEST:
Honor Thy Father (Train Of Thought)

Wouldn't be a proper Buddyhunter1 list without a lot of controversy. I understand why this song isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I absolutely love it. While I think Panic Attack is Dream Theater's heaviest song, Honor Thy Father is easily the angriest. A song this hate-filled will obviously turn a lot of people off, but I love a good hate song every now and then, and Honor Thy Father succeeds spectacularly in that department. The anger doesn't come across as forced, and fits the heaviness and brutality of the music quite well. In my opinion, this is one of the very best metal Dream Theater songs. The opening riff is incredibly badass, the instrumental section is both heavy and quite groovy, and Portnoy's drum work is killer. But anyways, if you don't like this song already I doubt I'm going to change your mind, so I'll just stop talking now.

#6 WORST:
Losing Time / Grand Finale (Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence)

Overture starts the 2nd disc of 6DOIT on a bad note, but Losing Time / Grand Finale ends it on a worse one. Which really shouldn't be the case, I mean, Dream Theater is usually fantastic at making spectacular finales to their epics, just look at Octavarium, Trial Of Tears, Learning To Live, In The Presence Of Enemies, In The Name Of God, The Count Of Tuscany, etc etc... But this, sadly, is the definition of an underwhelming ending for me. You would think that after about forty minutes they would be building up to something absolutely mind-blowing, but... instead we got this. The so-called "grand finale" just seems to come out of nowhere and leaves just as quickly. It honestly feels like they just ran out of ideas. While the Overture reprise and the lyrics connecting all the movements together is pretty cool, in my opinion, 6DOIT ends with a whimper when it should have ended with a bang.

Wow you're really not a fan of SDOIT in general, are you?

HTF is alright. Don't listen to it often, but when I do, I like it.

LT/GF isn't really memorable, so I understand.

Ooh, it's another rage time!

The SDOIT ending is the very definition of a DT epic ending imo. The only other DT songs that come close to ending that epically to me are ITNOG and Octavarium. How much more grand could you want a finale?!

Ehh... how so?

I rarely listen anything from TOT. But now when I think about it, Honor Thy Father is pretty decent. It wasn't in my top 50, but nowhere near to the bottom 10. I actually could listen it now. *gets his headphones*

Love Endless Sacrifice and Honor Thy Father in the top 10. While I don't know if Overture and Losing Time / Grand Finale would be in the bottom 10, they are pretty weak parts and definitely the worst parts of Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence.
