From what I've heard it's pretty bad.  Lots of droning vocals with no hooks or standout passages.

Interesting information about the lyrical content of the album. Also revealed is that JMX wrote "Surrender to Reason," and James did not write any lyrics this time around.

Wondering if this will be the third straight week with no major news, snippets, etc.

Ah well, we're getting pretty close now. Soon enough we'll all be hearing it in full.

News are never late, emtee. Nor they are early. They arrive precisely when they intend to.

:lol :lol :lol

Also as if I needed another reason to look forward to Surrender to Reason, now we know JMX wrote it! :caffeine:

So if my calculations are correct, if JMX wrote one, and JLB wrote none, and there are 2 instrumentals, JP wrote lyrics for 6 songs?

Thematt202

I'm getting a server error.

Edit - worked after two refreshes.

Seems a bit of a shame, after he'd gone on record as saying he was very keen to write more lyrics on the next album. Wonder how that went down.

One of my favourite things about Petrucci Theater is how every single band member has a voice. Rudess is no longer the "hired gun," John Myung has a lot to contribute, and Mangini is set to absolutely floor us in drum world this time round. Brilliant to have JM back in the lyrical mix, but it's a bit of a shame that James hasn't had anything to add this album, for whatever reason.

ETA: Aha! Thing's loaded. It's cos he just did his solo album. That makes sense. Excellent! I'm happy with that answer.

Whatsername

I'm definitely hoping that they'll transition from FAS straight into TEI as the first song they play. That would be awesome and a good way to get the crowd pumped up.

From the interview:

Do you think it'll be a part of BTV's lyrics?

I think some variation of that will probably make it into the song. I don't know if it'll be that precisely.

Am I the only one who's so happy that James listens to Switchfoot and Two Door Cinema Club? :squee:

Was JLB demoted?

no. in the interview he states he didn't want to write any this time because he felt fulfilled writing lyrics for his latest solo album which was going on at the same time, even tho JP asked him to.

emtee

I can see the interview now. His head was still into 'solo' album headspace so he backed away. Interesting.

I'd love to see them contributing lyrics and add some variety, although I personally think the chances of that are very low.

:'(

James has written some of my favorite lyrics in the band's catalog.

Well we know Mangini's lyrics would have a really cool toooooooneeeee. :neverusethis:

?

Great interview! :tup James mentioned 6 bands I've never heard of, he's such a hipster... :lol
QuoteSo I think doing "A Dramatic Turn Of Events" has proved that "yes we are, we are the same band and we're continuing this, sort of speak, musical movement that we've created and that we'll continue to create" but at the same time, we're on a new plane, feeling re-spirited you know
:neverusethis:

SystematicThought

It's really weird that JLB mentioned the Cleveland kidnappings because they found the guy dead in his cell this morning

I got so excited because I've heard all but two of those bands. It's like we have some kind of connection! :heart

I wasn't sure if he was referring to those. Definitely coincidental timing. :mehlin

SystematicThought

Yeah, I think he was at least.

I guess you could say it's a dramatic turn of events.......

mikeyd23

Well, that was a cool interview with James, we got a little more discussion around the songs themselves! No JLB lyrics kinda stinks, but I wouldn't read into it at all, he clearly stated that he wrote enough lyrics for his solo record and he felt comfortable taking a step back from writing lyrics on the new DT because of that.

Really looking forward to hearing "Surrender to Reason" now more than ever!

^ this, but I am beyond psyched by his description of Surrender To Reason.

Viking of the Sagas

The background music interferes with JP's answers especially at around 2:35... the guitar solo literally demands attention over JP's words, you get sucked in the song

Zydar

Spoiler alert for those who don't want to hear The Enemy Inside just yet, it's played throughout the video.

Great video though.

Tom Bombadil

I find these videos very entertaining. It's really fun to hear JP and JLP messin around.

aXygnus

It'd be interesting to see some Rudess/Mangini lyrics, maybe with Petrucci helping them (IIRC I remember JMX saying Petrucci usually helped him)

RMGadelha

I just loved how John described The Illumination Theory on that video! :metal

wasteland

I belive it's pretty much accepted that the album will definitely rock. And that without hearing more than one song. :D
