I don't buy the Regression/Fountain Of Lamneth comparison. I mean, yea they both start with a D major chord, but so do a million other songs. I highly doubt that this is an example of DT being influenced by Rush.
I haven't listened to either song in a while, but if I recall correctly, "Regression" and the opening of "In the Valley" (that's the name of that first part of Fountain of Lamneth) both use more or less the same chords, in, of course, the same key. They are in a different order, yes, but sometimes it's not about a "technical" comparison. Both pieces have a very similar feel: they are both preludes to a grander piece, their lyrical contents both have to do with looking at an earlier time in one's life. To me, they evoke the same sort of mood. Now, whether or not DT was inspired by Fountain is a different story, but the comparison of the raw musicality still stands.
