...and could never listen to them, or anything from them (in any form, meaning we are getting rid of all live versions, too), which two would you pick?

For me, Systematic Chaos is the first to go, easily.  And even though it would be painful to lose the title track, I'd have to go with Octavarium as the other.

WDADU and Awake. WDADU is a total no brainer, since it essentially already doesn't exist to me, and I don't listen to it one bit, although the other spot was a very tough call between Awake and ADTOE, since they both have a fair mix of songs I really like, and songs I would never listen to anyway.

This guy knows what he's talkin about.

I voted WDADU and TOT. Then I read the wicked line in Kev's post about the lvie versions and I proclaim: TOT and SC.

Kev, can you enable the possibility to change one's vote? :)

WDADU and BCSL for me...

WDADU...I was a DT fan for a long time before I ever heard any songs from this album so it would be like backing up a few years.  Dream has 1 song I like, but had never heard until Score (Afterlife) and a couple of songs that are decent (A Fortune in Lies and Light the Fuse).

I like most of the songs on BCSL, but almost everything on this album was done better on other albums.  I listened to the album quite a bit after it was released, but I hardly ever touch it now.

Scorpion

When Dream and Day Unite and Octavarium. Shame about The Killing Hand, Sacrificed Sons and The Root of All Evil, but every other album, while some are worse as a whole, has songs that I could not bear losing.

EDIT: Lolno. I totally forgot about SC. So 8VM and SC it is.

?

Poor WDADU! :'( The results would be less obvious if it wasn't an option.

My vote goes to SC and Octavarium. The former was an easy choice, but the latter needed more thinking. However, I thought that out of my favorite songs from DT albums I'd rather lose TROAE than Trial of Tears or The Count, so that's why I picked 8V.

Implode

No can do; it won't let me now. :(

That sums it up for me now, too.  I almost got rid of this one instead of Octavarium, since I love the latter's title track way more than anything on BC&SL, but ultimately the boredom of half of the songs on OV made me choose it.

yorost

No question on Octavarium.

...I suppose Black Clouds & Silver Linings for the other.

robwebster

Black Clouds, Dream and Day.

Black Clouds has a lot of songs I enjoy, but none that I'd properly miss. I might remember bits of The Count of Tuscany quite fondly, and I'll recall that wonderful bit in the middle of A Nightmare to Remember, but middle-of-the-road MP-era Dream Theater is exactly how I'd describe the album. Even the epics are middle-of-the-road. Don't get me wrong, I'm not giving it up without a fight, but I reckon everything that's good about Black Clouds, they've done better somewhere else, so with regret, that's the first one I'd give up.

Dream and Day is even more of a struggle, cos there are three songs I really, really like on it. A Fortune in Lies, Ytse Jam, and Only a Matter of Time are all fantastic, and they're all songs that are worth saving. Thing is, every other album has three great songs worth saving, too, with the possible exception of Scenes from a Memory which might have two great songs and ten pretty-good ones, but the great songs worth saving on those albums are of much higher quality than Dream and Day's holy trinity, so Dream and Day has to take the cut. Cos it does have a lot of dull songs, and is the only DT album where I'd seriously entertain the criticism that, "They all sound the same."

I voted WDADU and Black Clouds, but then immediately regretted voting for BC&SL - I love The Count of Tuscany too much and ANTR is great too. If I were to vote again I'd probably pick 6DOIT instead - sure I'd lose The Glass Prison, but I prefer TCOT to that and the only other song I particularly care for on that album is The Great Debate. Every other album has at least 2 brilliant songs that I wouldn't want to get rid of.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Cool Chris

FII and BC&SL.

FII is based on how often I actually listen to it, which is never.

BC&SL, which maybe too early to call at this point, though it is the second least DT album of mine, which isn't good since it is the second most recent.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

This.

Dream Team

Very easy choice - FII and SC. It would have been Octavarium but the title track saved it.

MoraWintersoul

Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds, since between them they have exactly one song I like to hear regularly (Ministry).

Ruba

...I'd choose the two worst, a.ka Train of Thought and Black Clouds & Silver Linings.

MetropolisWatches

Without a doubt, BC&SL should be number one.

::prepares for SC haters to riot::

Jaq

Falling Into Infinity and Octavarium. Because while I like albums less than them-BC&SL in particular-there are songs on every other album that I like more than the ones I like on those two, so if I have to go without, those two will do nicely.

Voted for that one in addition to WDADU.

Honestly, if Systematic Chaos was to disappear, I would have a killing spree.

j

Octavarium and Systematic Chaos.

BC&SL is a worse album than maybe either of these, but I like The Count of Tuscany enough to save it.  Train of Thought was very close to getting the ax too.

None of their other albums were remotely under consideration.

Ben_Jamin

Dammit I thought I voted for 2 but ended up just voting for Awake.  My other choice is Train of Thought.

Although I'll miss my all time favorite DT song, and AMBI, the rest I don't listen to often.

Train of Thought was a toughie. Although a great solid album, Id only miss the last half of the album. Dont really care for As I Am.

Pols Voice

Octavarium and Systematic Chaos, no problem. Neither one has a song I love, and they both have songs that I find atrocious.

Syzzle

I only voted for WDADU, every other album has songs I listen to regularly.

goo-goo

I would get rid of WDADU and probably the 2nd disc of SDOIT.
