I was skimming through a popular music encyclopedia in my library and read the entry for Dream Theater, and it said that they supported Elton John on a European tour some time in the 90s.  I don't ever remember hearing about that though... did that tour actually happen?  Seems like a really odd pairing.

Yup, it happened :)

Those were strange days... DT played a number of festivals where their inclusion beside people like Rod Stewart, Elton John (and even the unfathomable Eros Ramazzotti!) was at least questionable  :lol

They mention that even on the OIALT dvd commentary, talking about playing the Munich Olympic Stadium with Page/Plant and Elton John.

The real question is :

Has David Furnish ever opened for Elton John ?

ZeppelinDT

Hmm... I guess this is probably what the entry was referring, but it's kind of misleading to refer to this as them being support for Elton John on a European tour when really it was just a one-off festival.  I always find it weird when somebody refers to an "opening" act as the opener for a "headlining" act when it's a festival show.

I agree with Zep.  Opening for EJ implies that DT toured with him.  They didn't.

After this show, Mike hung out with Jimmy Page and they proceeded to empty a bottle of Jägermeister. Thanks to Over The Edge for the facts!

Oops, wrong thread.

STRANGE DAYS

BRING ALL MY CHILDREN TO ME

But yeah, those are some bizarre lineups - DT and Eros Ramazzotti?! :lol

?

Yeah, one radio channel in Finland played some of his songs pretty frequently when I was a kid! :lol

E: I checked his discography on Wikipedia and I remember the song "Fuoco nel fuoco" - I had no idea how it was written until now.

wasteland

It's one of the few song I know of him. Not that I havn't been exposed to him in my childhood and early teens, but because all his songs are just plainly forgettable. Fuoco nel fuoco means Fire in the Fire.

Fuoco nel fuoco means Fire in the Fire.
:onfire:

BTW, the same channel also played some stuff by Laura Pausini back then - there must've been some conspiracy to play Italian artists' music! :eek

I've also listened to those Italian artists.... luckily I avoid listening to the radio nowadays

You read an encyclopedia? In the library?
Did something happen to Wikipedia, or did your internet just crash?

ZeppelinDT

Lol.  I'm working on a reference assignment.  I saw the book sitting there and I was just curious what it said about DT
