29 - Beyond this Life

All that we learn this time, (what we have been is what we are), is carried beyond this life - This album is so much more as a whole than the sum of it's parts but there are some of those parts that are awesome just like this song. There is a great development and a big part of the story that is told here. The instrumentation is excellent throughout the whole song and there is a true roller-coaster as the song changes constantly.

28 - The Glass Prison

You dug the hole but you can't bury your sole open your mind and you'll see - I mentioned that PMU was one of the two songs that got me into DT and this is the other. The first time I listened to it I was blown away at how heavy and powerful it was but also at the fact that it was very different from anything I had ever listened to. I like how JR keeps this song from going full on metal, it's very refreshing as it's easy to get caught up in all the madness that is going on.

27 - About to Crash (Reprise)

When I fall out of the sky who'll be standing by - Oh my god 6DOIT is a whole song what do you think you're doing!!!! is what some of you might be thinking right now but I never thought of it as a whole song and I'm sure not starting now. The guitar intro on this song is just amazing. This song manages to go several places in very little time which is what makes it so awesome and even though it brings back the feeling from the non-reprise version it stays very fresh and is individually awesome.

BlobVanDam

:heart for all of them.

AND OH MY GOD WHAT SDOIT IS A WHOLE SONG NEKOV WHAT ARE YOU DOING NEKOV STAHP.

You know I had to say it.

All great songs. I do think of 6DOIT as one song, but About to Crash (Reprise) is one of my favourite sections of it.

Unlegit

All good songs , but Beyond This Life should be higher.

26 - The Best of Times

A young boy and his father Idol and best friend - The first time I listened to this song it felt like a goodbye but since I didn't know it was dedicated to MPs song I thought the band might be splitting after this record. Sadly it is what ended up happening. I think this song gets really overlooked and it shouldn't because it is so beautiful and full of energy. You can really feel the sadness but also the joy for all the great times past. The thing that sticks out the most is the amazing riff JP plays right after the intro.

25 - Take the Time

"You're fighting the weight of the world but no one can save you this time - I don't know if I can point out anything specifically that I like about this song. Overall it works pretty well with nice melodies and changes in mood and rhythm. What brings it down for me is the short section right before the instrumental and also the mid-section in that instrumental since it seems like they reach a point where they can no longer go on so they start with something totally different and the sudden break makes it lose the flow. After that it goes back to being great again."

24 - Bridges in the Sky

May healing waters bury all my pain - As most of you know I'm not a fan of this album. On the first listen I was becoming highly disappointed with the songs so far and suddenly the shaman comes in and it seems like something good might happen and then BAM, JP comes right at you with a heavy and powerful riff that knocks you of you chair. After that it's just awesome prog metal very well executed. As in most of this album the drumming brings it down for me as it seems to be unnecessarily technical.

How often have we seen TBOT come up in a list? The song has so many beautiful sections, and one of JP's all time killer solos, although I think the song suffers from lyrics, and I don't like the early vocal sections in the major key. I would have preferred a shorter song with just the sadder piano/acoustic bits, then build to the big guitar outro.

And TTT and BITS are both excellent songs. :tup I'm not a huge fan of ADTOE either, but BITS is a definite standout.

Every day that passes I like you more blob  :heart

I actually quite like the major key verses.  It's a nice change of pace and DT did it well there.  But I agree that the lyrics drag down the song, they seem a little too cliched or hackneyed (sorry MP I know it's mean to say that about this song but Blob said it first! :) ).  The solo is of course great, but TBOT would be nowhere near my top 50.

Nekov

Not many comments lately, I guess as we approach the top 10 there'll be more

23 - Scarred

Sometimes I feel I should face this alone, my soul is exposed - The intro is so fantastic in every sense with a somewhat jazzy vibe, extremely rhythmic. I love the variations and how the song goes through all the different phases with smooth transitions and a very good instrumentation. The ending of the song falls a little short though

22 - In The Presence of Enemies Pt. 2

Angels fall all for you heretic - I like this part better than the first one because it is stronger, more powerful and because it varies more. The slow start is quite deceiving and the song does take a little to get into in. My favorite part is The Slaughter of the Damned section, I just can't help but start headbanging. The riffs JP delivers during that song are magnificent.

21 - Metropolis pt. 1

I was told there's miracle for each day that I try - As the band themselves have said this is the quintessential DT song as it portrays every aspect of the band, the constant change, the metal side, the more proggy side and some great atmospheric work delivered by KM. Through the years I have grown a little tired of this song yet it still remains an important part of what DT is for me. I'm not a fan of live versions but in this case I will point out that I prefer the version from WDADR because that instrumental section they pulled of is beyond words.

Three songs that I placed in my top 15 and one of them was my #1. Good picks, but I think they should be higher.

Two great songs, and then Scarred. At least it's outside of the top 20 though. I will be able to sleep tonight.

20 - Erotomania

I'm having a hard time trying to describe what I like about this song. It just feels right. It's brought down by JP's excess in speed in the little solo in the middle.

19 - Through her Eyes

I`m learning all about my life by looking through her eyes - I have a very emotonial attachement with this song. Back when I was in high school I had my first relationship and ended up heart broken and kept recurring to SFAM to try and think of something else and whenever this song came up I felt overwhelmed and almost ended up crying several times. I just think it's one of the most beautiful songs ever written. The vocal arrangements bring so much into it even though they are quite simple, the piano melodies just touch some sweet spot inside me and JP's guitar sounds like a cry for help that needs to be heard.

18 - Take Away my Pain

I was standing by the edge of the water I noticed my reflection in the waves - As with TBOT this song has some sad lyrics however the music doesn't feel sad for the most part, it almost seems happy. The guitar work with the constant and changing notes that don't really seem to form a reef is just lovely. The bass work is also very good even though it is quite limited. And of course I can't leave out JP's solo which is full of feeling and is very touching.

?

Surprising to see THE and TAMP so high but neither is bad, especially not the former! :tup
