Same with New Millennium? These songs aren't superb but it confuses me as to how someone could have a strong negative opinion about them XD.

Unlegit

Not sure why, I like both of those songs a lot actually.

Madman Shepherd

Everyone does not hate Outcry.

If some people do they are horrible human beings.

Polis

that's weird. every single time I see someone bring up Outcry there is a massive wall of flame that follows suit :/

Bolsters

I didn't know everyone hated Outcry either. I certainly don't, it's even one of the highlights of ADTOE for me.

Outcry is my second favorite song off of ADTOE.  It has only grown on me, and really has some incredible JR moments on the instrumental part.  BITS remains #1, while BAI(was initially my favorite) kind of gets worse and worse to my ears over time.  I think this is because of my great love for Learning to Live.

I never noticed a great amount of hate for Outcry.  Strange thread title.

JediKnight1969

I love that tune. I loved it even before I listen it just because of the title. It suggests me a Gilmourish thing. And it is. Truly intense and emotional. Love it.

SeRoX

It's my only favourite on ADTOE. Actually it's like,

1- Outcry
2- Bridges In The Sky

3- The Rest

Rattlehead

The only real problem that I have with the song is James' delivery of the vocals and the lyrics. I just find them to be a bit dull and cheesy. /flameshield activated

Prog Snob

I don't...and that has made all the difference

darkshade

I love Outcry. I started the appreciation thread for it shortly after ADTOE was released.

Rattlehead

I liked Outcry a lot more when I first bought ADToE. The album hasn't really held my interest like most of the other DT albums have. I probably haven't listened to any song on the album since the summer honestly.

WildeSilas

Okay, everyone who loves Outcry should rise up, be counted, stand strong, and unite. In that order.

TheGreatPretender

I think Outcry is the best song on the album. Yes, mostly for the instrumental section, but damn, DT needs an instrumental section like that on every album!
It was the first time in a long time when every single person I showed a DT song to was like, "Whoa! This part's crazy!"

Rattlehead

I agree that the instrumental section is awesome.  :tup

"Outcry" was the song I was looking forward to the most in the run-up to 'ADToE''s release, but it ended up disappointing me, because it wasn't what I expected. "Breaking All Illusions" actually ended up being the type of song I wanted "Outcry" to be, so "BAI" got all of my attention, whilst "Outrcy" mostly went ignored. But now, I've been returning to it every now and then, giving it the time of day, and listening to it with a fresh perspective and no pre-formulated expectations, and I've started to like it more and more with each listen. Like gm5k mentioned, it's a grower; it's rising in the ranks every time I hear it.

Also, I'd absolutely love to see it live; it feels like it was written for a live setting.

Outcry has some sick riffage that is probably overlooked by most fans. Definitely in my top three favorite ADToE songs.  :hefdaddy
My latest concept album "IV: Timber" IS OUT NOW!

It's my 2nd fave on ADTOE behind BMUBMD.  How can anyone hate that middle section???

54_diplomats

I think both of those songs are great and Outcry is definitely top 3 off of ADToE

MasterLomaxus

I bet everyone hates it, because it's kind of boring.  Actually I don't really hate it.  It's just meh, just like the rest of ADTOE, I suppose.

BlobVanDam

I've only seen a few people who dislike Outcry, and I actually wonder why more people don't like it.
The instrumental section is a big chunk of the song that doesn't fit the toooooone, and it's the typical instrumental noodling, with nothing memorable. The rest of the song would be ok without it, but I still find it dull to the point where it's not worth listening to.

I think it's the weakest song on the album. The other 3 long tracks of the album are much better.

dparrott

That's funny, the middle section is one of the only parts of the album that first caught my attention.

This. I don't hate the songs I don't like (with a few exceptions outside the DT world). It's a boring song from start to finish. Now, New Millenium is a completely different matter. That song has groove and the music has a context, the parts fits nicely together.

chwik

I love Outcry. JP's first riff in that song is fantastic!

j

I don't hate it at all, but my main criticism would be that the lyrics aren't very good.

I just don't understand....  :sadpanda:

The instru*mental* section of Outcry kicks maximum posterior.

Sycsa

I don't get this topic, I only saw like 2-3 people ever to express a strongly negative opinion about it and that can be said for any given DT song. It's mostly regarded as one of the best ADTOE has to offer(for me is just behind BAI) and one of the most technical songs in the whole DT library. The only things that I don't like are the lyrics and the way James sings the chorus, but that goes for almost every single chorus on the album. I'll never get why some people don't appreciate the instrumental section or call it "wankery".

Outcry was the song that impressed me most when I first heard the album. A dark horse, really. I was half expecting the 'outcry' to be something personal. And the instrumental, for me, pips Metropolis as the most progressive, craziest thing they've done.

PS. It would be cool if at this point the OP came in with: "Now wait a minute man...;D

But that isn't who he is.

wasteland

I don't hatee it, it's a cool song with an instrumental section a tad too long. It was Jordan's favourite,by the way, before the crowd reaction to BAI made him change his mind.

Zydar

I don't hate it, but I don't find it that great either. If I would rank the songs on ADTOE it would be 2nd to last, with only BMUBMD under it.
