ROADRUNNER: Dream Theater's new album "Dream Theater", to be released September 24, 2013, will feature a 34-piece symphony orchestra on 4 songs.
Stay tuned for more RR news.

This is a large part of why I'm so excited for this aklbum. They'd better take a page from Haken's book and make better use of it than they did on Octavarium.

I thought they did well with the orchestra on Octavarium. Even more so on Score, especially with the title track.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the use of the orchestra on the album (especially the main theme breakdown in the title track), but I felt that it was mostly buried in the tracks. I loved hearing it so much that I ended up being disappointed that it didn't play a bigger part overall.

The Letter M

WHOA...four songs with a whole orchestra. I wonder if this means they may do a WHOLE TOUR with an orchestra, a la Yes? If not, I wonder if they'll pull a SCORE and do a special show again?

Either way, this is exciting, and depending on the length of these songs, it could be about half of the album's music will have an orchestra!

Wait, this is legitimate

phentalmyst

im not seeing this in the RR twitter feed. where was it found?

Ben_Jamin

I say time for a new DT photo caption thread.

Lucidity

Considering they're using an orchestra on four songs, I'm willing to bet they're pretty long, considering how much work it must be to get an orchestra together and pay them and all that. They're probably making as much use of them as they can if they went to the trouble to get them together.

eosforum

So this is it? That's the announcement?

Shadow2222

Um, I don't think that is a legitimate announcement, guys.

Lucien

Meatrose

But if they were to use a proper orchestra for some of the songs I'd be pretty excited... I think.

In my opinion orchestras are double-edged swords; if used right they can add an incredible sense of epicness and depth to a song but it could just as well become a negative force that overshadows the actual band members.

That violin on Score was a nightmare to remember.

Lucien

darkshade

Sorry guys. I thought you guys would get it. I was making fun of the supposed "big" announcement by typing up a fake RR announcement for something we already know. (aka orchestra on DT12)

We didn't know it was for 4 songs, so by adding that you put us all in a craze. :lol

Lucien

I knew it was fake, but then people started believing it.

phentalmyst

we already knew that?

i didn't.

Yea, there was literally that one guy or girl who was out of tune most of the time. Why could they not fix that??? (either during the show, or in mixing for the live album)

I recall someone somewhere saying that 4 songs were recorded with an orchestra.

This. When was that announced? And where? I'm usually up to date on things about this new album. Maybe all of the E3 hype threw me off lol

Lucien

Currently listening to Metropolis Pt. 2, all the way through, something I haven't done yet. Fatal Tragedy's first aggressive lyrics are AMAZING.

Lucidity

I know that the orchestra isn't the announcement. But it's still the prime reason for my excitement for the album.

Lucien

While listening, I look up and see RRR's twitter page has a new tweet

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

"If you're going to see @amityaffliction at @VansWarpedTour today, they'll be onstage at 8:20 PM local time!"

Fuck you too, Roadrunner.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

Okay guys, I'm back. Did I miss anything?

Big DT announcement today. We're waiting for it.

cyberdrummer

If there is an announcement, maybe at 2100 GMT (i.e. in 55 minutes)?

Mladen

I'm having a hard time following all of this.  :lol So, stupid question time - how do we know this will be a DT announcement?  ;D

I think RR wrote it on Facebook. They didn't specifically state that it would be DT related, so we don't even know for sure.

EDIT: I think I got your question wrong. So no, we don't know if it's a DT announcement

cyberdrummer

Not definitely DT, but seems likely:

Mladen

Oh, I did see that. Kudos to Roadrunner, they really know how to get people excited.

You get the feeling that whoever is posting loves our homeboys too :)

Also, in the comments, I finally used that one reaction image I always wanted to use :rollin

Hahahahaha, well played.

Ben_Jamin

I really hope JM has been in the mood to write his own musical ideas ala Trial of Tears, but then that got me thinking. He mightve done just that with BAI, they do share the same structure.

NO WONDER WE LOVE BAI.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

So Jordan's apparently not doing anything DT-related, he's mastering his piano album.

That made me a little upset. I'll check at the end of the day to see if he said anything about the new album.

On Metropolis Pt. 2, I'm at the end of One Last Time, going into The Spirit Carries On.
