ADTOE was nice in that regard. BCSL had too many long songs, so it was refreshing that ADTOE was more balanced with song lengths.

MoraWintersoul

Also, gotta love the last page.
DT fandom: lol DT should quit with the What Would Rush Do philosophy
DT fandom: lol DT will never be able to maintain Rush's work ethic during the next 20 years but they damn well should

I wouldn't mind a bunch of long songs like that again, but they'd have to be good long songs. Black Clouds & Silver Linings just didn't have that.

A lot of people here seem to hold FII in high regard because it has the most songs and assume that the new album will be the better the more songs it has.

I've never read anything about FII being liked because it has the most songs.  People who like it seem to like the variety (which has some correlation to song length and number of songs) or because of some specific tracks on it that are very strong (which has nothing to do with the number of songs).

There is something of a feeling that DT got carried away with the long songs for a while, and obviously if the songs are shorter then there will tend to be more of them, but that's not the same as anyone saying that they like FII because it has so many songs.

Listen from 1:13 on.

I think our wait won't be as long as some think

I hope they release a 24/96 version of the songs with the album and not months later.

Same! I ended up buying ADTOE a little over 3 times last years.

GasparXR

I'm actually REALLY curious and excited to see what kind of tone/feel this album has. Each of their albums has a distinct feel, in part due to the songwriting, and in part to production aspects like recording setups, mixing and mastering. I know it will be distinct, but knowing it's distinct means it's something new, and that makes me excited.

You do still need to MIX an album though. Unless the sounds are so good that they mixed as they went along.

Not entirely sure at what you're getting at, BUT my guess is that you think the wait won't be that long because they already have an idea of what it sounds like when they were recording? Am I right? If so I don't think that will cut down on time by much.

Marion Crane

I'm gonna say at least Sept/Oct

Dark Castle

I keep seeing late summer/early fall so I'm guessing August/September

ResultsMayVary

It'll be in September sometime, unless they decide to delay it. They're on the same timeline track as they were for ADTOE and we got an early/mid September release on that one.

Lucien

Currently the only thing I'm waiting for is a single/tracklist, something to chew on.  :corn

Indeed. Dream Theater albums are so regular that I can wait until September for new music.

It really does only seem like last week they revealed the art and titles for Black Clouds.

Lucien

I'm a newer fan, and the only album that I cared about coming out besides this one was Clockwork Angels.

In fact, it was the summer before I became a fan (Spring 2012, upon listening to Octavarium[the song] for the first time and falling in love with it) that ADToE came out.

So this is a huge deal for me.

ResultsMayVary

Honestly, I would expect album info within the next week or two, with the mix/master being completed by the end of the month, and then slated for a mid-to-late September release.

Meh. I kinda wonder why DT keep going for these guys. I mean, Clockwork Angels was a pretty good album, but it surely didn't sound great. But there's DT for you, using the guy Rush just used, regardless of whatever :D
As far as I could understand from Wikipedia Richard Chycki only engineered some of the stuff on Rush's album, and didn't mix it. That album had a good amount of bass though, so I wouldn't mind if they actually used that guy. I have no idea what Richard Chycki's mixing is like though, but I sure hope he'll be the one who finally understands that DT needs nearly twice the usual bass volume to sound good. ADTOE had a few ok bass moments, but in some other places Myung was inaudible as usual. Seriously, mixing bass isn't that hard.

GTA V and new DT-album in september would make it the best month of the year  ;)

We got to listen to On The Backs of Angels on June 28, 2011 unless that was just the upload date and it was made visible later on.

A lot of people here seem to hold FII in high regard because it has the most songs and assume that the new album will be the better the more songs it has.

I consider FII to be one of their weakest albums and I think that the large amount of short songs is just an expression of the lack of inspiration they had back then. Trying many different things but most of them not properly fleshed out.
Yeah, with FII, less would have really been more.

Which is why I've always kinda been amused by MP's idea that the album was bad because the label wouldn't let them do a double album. Even though most of the outtakes are better than songs which actually made the record, listening to the FII demos in their entirety is an absolute chore, so I have a hard time believing that better production and mastering alone would make them that much better. .

That date sounds right. They released the song about a week before their first show with Mangini (July 4th, 2011 in Rome).

I think it's probably too early for any finished artwork yet, and it wouldn't be professional to stick it on his site before the band allows it. I like the design though, if it were booklet artwork.
