1-4 are very strong, at least 4 out of 5 stars.

5-7 are quite good, around the 3 star range.

8-10 are not horrible, but just okay, about 2-2.5 stars out of 5.

They all have their moments of excellence and I enjoy listening to the lower ranked albums from time to time.

anyway, this list was seriously hard for me to make.... because I honestly consider every single DT album to be a 5 star record. So heres my current list...

Well, it seems that WDADU is so far pretty low on everyone's list. Is it because of the singer, quality of the songs, both, something else?

Some people like to think it's just because of the poor production and Charlie's vocals,

That's because those ARE easily the two most cited reasons people give for not liking it or even giving it a chance.

Other than lyrical rhythmic problems or whatever you music people would call them, I don't see many problems with the "songwriting" at all.  The melodies are strong, the structures of most of the songs are coherent, and there are a ton of great ideas on WDADU, not to mention the "youthful energy" that many fans of the album like about it (and rightfully so, IMO).  I rank Octavarium, ToT, and SC below WDADU, with BC&SL about on par with it.  The latter two albums have weaknesses that are very different in nature, but about equal in magnitude.

The mix blows.  Charlie's vocals are fine.  I don't get why lots of people here (many of whom like Rush) can't get past them, but to each his own.

Charlies vocals are fine on some songs (such as Afterlife and AFIL), but on many songs they are not up to scratch. Aside from a few decent songs, the songwriting is by far DT's worst. Songs like OAMOT and Status Seeker are embarrassingly bad with their poorly thought out melodies and transitions.
Unfortunately there are too many people who discount the album based only on the production and Charlie, but the unanimous low ranking of the album is still entirely justified.

I 100% disagree. I find the transitions to be just fine and the song writing more solid than later albums such as Systematic Chaos and Train of Thought. But hey, everyone has an opinion on this album.

Still haven't heard Awake, WDADU and Falling Into Infinity... I understand that I really need to but I'm still relatively new to DT... it seems I'm in for a treat with Awake though, I'm tempted to go out and buy it today

I know it may surprise people that I have BC&SL rated so high but it was oddly my first DT album ever, my GF's dad introduced me to them. I wasn't really pulled in until I listened to Images and Words though... I've been listening to them for about 2 years now, but for the last 6 months I've been hooked on them. I hope this will never wear off because honestly DT shot up my list to my top 3 favorite bands, I'm obsessed with them now.  Just bought Live at Budokan a few weeks ago and was blown away. Love these guys. I really need to listen to Octavarium more because initially it didn't pull me in like some of DTs other albums have but I realize I have to give it more of a chance.

Buy Awake and FFI. Two great albums, though Awake is the better one (however, FII does have the individually better songs). You can find it pretty cheap nowadays, I got my copy for 7€ early this year.

Octavarium isn't very consistent, half the songs are pretty average - but the other 4 awesome songs elevate it above Scenes and Awake for me, since they don't have many real standout tracks between them (but do have a high level of consistency).

I'm warmer to Octavarium than you are - it's in my top three any day, usually top one or two, and I really enjoy the relatively average songs to boot - but I really like the last bit. Scenes and Awake are very consistently great, but I don't think they're ever quite amazing enough to punch above patchier albums with higher peaks.
