You know how you come across a DT picture and you want to put it in the "funny" thread, but the picture isn't that funny but just cool so you either don't post it or post it with a caption of "this isn't funny, but..." well, dang it, let's dump 'em all here. Sounds good?

Just so this doesn't turn out pictureless:

The only thing that would make this cooler (and funnier) would be if JLB was onstage next to JP and JMX with a tamberine.

SuperTaco

Still can't get over the immensity of that kit. It's like a mad scientist standing behind his lab table with bubbling vials of chemicals everywhere.

Sketchy

Slide guitar!

Also bass that bass. So much win.

Scorpion

At first I thought that they were playing each others frets, like the Haken guys did. That would have been epic.

So, what else can you expect from Mike Mangenious?

VioletS16

Dang, I need to dig into my archive of DT pics :caffeine: With any hope I'll get 'em up sometime tomorrow...

Yes, please do. Until then I am taking care of the estrogen:

gifs are fair game too!

Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite
Basically Kyoko Kirigiri

Lovely estrogen sating there :mora: :heart
Thank you. I figured it's time to fly my fangirl flag proud. It's good that no one knows the depth of my fangirlism of KM and JP, I'd get teased for that too

DebraKadabra

We only get teased for it 'cause this place is such a sausage fest. :)

i think it looks bigger due to it being tall. If all those cymbals and octobans were where Portnoy had them ( or where most normal drummers do ) - it would look less massive.

Also - despite what Mangini says - you do NOT need four bass drums on a kit. That's just nonsense. I don't care if one is a bigger " boom " than the others - A boom is a boom. Him saying playing X song with two bass drums cant be done is like...reallly? You physically cant play X song with ONLY two bass drums ? O...k.....

I may be in a shitty mood right now - but I bet there's a few things on that kit he doesn't even need.

Adami

I understand his need for four kick drums.............from a theoretical point of view.

However in a live setting, the differences between the kick drums will be heard by absolutely nobody. In the studio? Sure if you want. But live it makes no difference in the slightest.

Kotowboy

Absolutely right.

Especially when you add in gating / compression and natural reverb in an auditorium over the PA. Everything being super loud and all that . A bass drum will sound like a bass drum.

I think it's being excessive purely for the sake of it.

This is where I disagree. I just don't think Mangini cares or understands that the kick drums aren't necessary live. He seems to think about things from a strictly academic perspective, and from that perspective the kick drums make a difference.

Kotowboy

Exactly.

One of my biggest problems with my music degree was after a while - your natural creativity is over written with theory knowledge and you can only think in terms of scales and modes and intervals.

It just stops you thinking creatively imo and forces you to write / play in a robotic, trained way which I try to avoid.

Cedar redaC

But when someone knows all of the theory stuff and can still think creatively, that's where legends are born. :metal

Kotowboy

John Petrucci is a rare example.

Vai & Satch ? boring as shit.

There is so much fabulosity in that move. I can see why it is called that by you. Any more, and I bet he'd have mastered the Fabulous-Beamu too.

VioletS16

Dang! I can't believe I don't have the sources to like, any of my pics. But here are a few (of my favourites) anyway:

(dem leeeeeggsss)

Okay, I guess I just have a lot of James pics...  :blush

MoraWintersoul

Let it out, let it out :D

Let's make some balance (with JP, for now)

(watching over)

And the quintessential gif (not made by me. I wish I made that):

Elite

Cool. :) I'm still looking for a guitar like that. Whenever I find one for a reasonable price, I'm buying it.

JP is shredding like a beast there. I can see why JLB is all like "Lemme engage in physical contact with this amazing creature"

Yeah, by that point he wasn't immune to JP's magic powers. Now it's like "oh, a solo, time to have some hot tea and stretch a bit and watch the crowd" :D

Hot tea, yes, and also a nice banana full of potassium to keep that voice strong. ;D
