Wondering if they'll still release something from the night in Colombia as they commented previously on their website. It would be amazing.

MajorMatt

That Mativision stuff looks kinda cool actually, I'll probably spend most of my time around manginis drum kit though  ;D

Over the Edge Productions It comes out in May and no, it's not 3D. What JP was referring to are the 5 cameras on stage that film 360 degrees. There will be an app released where you can switch between cameras while watching and control, live, which direction you're looking. Gonna be sick!

johncal

The only thing for me that sucks is that while I have on of the best Blu-ray players you can get for my use with my big screen, I don't have a Blu-ray on my computer so I'm guessing I can't take advantage of all the 360 stuff... I think. But, I'm really glad they put it in there for guys that can take advantage of it. Those DT guys are out to kill it with this one. I can't wait.

Looks pointless to me. Also looked like the picture quality was compromised. :/

Why, exactly? Doesn't get better than that when coming to live concert DVDs, IMO. Muse did it and it was amazing.

 You know it's a youtube trailer, right? And the clips used there are youtube quality, and it's probably gonna look better than Score because you know, video cameras probably have come a long way since 6 years ago. The thing's gonna be released in HD Blu-Ray. Yours really appears like a comment coming out of nowhere, I'm sorry.

ResultsMayVary

Commenting on the quality of the youtube video trailer is pointless, but its going to be light years ahead of that quality, especially on the HD Blu Ray platform.

countoftuscany42

interesting concept. i like it, but i hope its only an option and that you can still watch the concert as filmed, not just in the 360 image.

I expect it would be a bonus, probably on the second disc just like the Budokan multi-angle Instrumedley.

Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

The trailer was so awesome that I've watched it way too many times already. Got to love Jordan's wizard hat.  :metal Anyway, I'm actually becoming more and more tempted to buy a BluRay player just to be able to watch this in HD. They seem to be quite cheap these days. The problem is that I don't really watch movies at all, and if I do, I can always use my lovely AppleTV to watch them in HD, so I would basically be using the BR player only for DT and maybe some other music BluRays as well. DT in HD is definitely worth the price of a BluRay player, isn't it?  :lol

countoftuscany42

well theres a decent chance the concert will be available on itunes, so maybe just purchase the high def version there and buy the dvd for the bonus features?

cramx3

Is there any info on whether the 360 is for one song ala instrumedley or for the entire show? That would be amazing.

It's highly likely the CD version will be on iTunes since every other live release is, but as for the video, can't say. None of them are on iTunes yet.

I don't think there's any way they could fit that much video on the disc. It was probably too much trouble to set up only for one song though. I'd guess we'll get a few songs that way? Just a guess though.

robwebster

If you need to use an app to access it, might some of the data be part of the app itself?

IMHO this feature will be for the entire show but only on the BR disc

Hey, I hope you're right, because it would be an excellent feature to kick it up a notch. Man, it would take forever to watch it all and see every detail in there!

Kotowboy

What you need to do is get 4 friends around - each with their own BluRay player and 42" HDTV and snych them all up.

So you have each member on the 360 degree setting. One member per tv.

Then you can control the entire gig from your living room.

;D

wasteland

Indeed it would be. A breakthrough experience for progressive live music, actually.  :tup

And I hope you're right, dreamer81, but can a single BR-DVD accept that much data? The regular footage AND another 3 hours of 360 material? (which I believe would be much heavier than an equally long set of normal footage, given the higher amount of data required to picture the whole solid angle)

Dreamer81

First view as it is, and then one time for every camera, it will take forever, better stash some beers and pop corn from now :D

@wasteland: the blu ray capacity can reach up to 200 GB of raw data, if a film like (for example) the avengers and all the extra fit in 1 BR with 27 GB of space; i'm pretty sure they can made it on one High capacity BR

Unrelated - but is it just the acoustics and echo or is James woefully out of tune in this vid ?

It's probably the video quality - but it sounds like has has trouble pitching in a few bootleg's i've watched...

Is he that hit and miss live or is it youtube ?

Not only that, but when you buy movies on BluRay, you can turn around and sell them later on if you want. I don't think you can do that purchasing films thru iTunes, which is a big reason why I will consider purchasing CDs and BRs.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.
Quote from: TAC on July 10, 2024, 08:26:41 AMPOW is awesome! :P

Kotowboy

The only time i purchase music on iTunes is if I can't be be bothered waiting for a delivery or I won't be able to get to a CD shop on the Monday.

He sounds good to me. He struggles a bit with some of the higher parts after the solo, but that's not really out of the ordinary.

From what I've read online and stuff, James had a really good tour and was just as good at Luna Park. I'm sure there were pitchy moments, but I'm positive those will be silently corrected in the live DVD. There's really no need to worry.

Kotowboy

I'm not worrying...

It's just that I was wondering whether it was possible to sound off-key because it's a live bootleg ?

Like - the bad camera microphone picking up overtones or something ?

From a technical POV ;)

False! He had a good tour and he was WAY BETTER than the tour average at Luna Park. :P

I really wouldn't push that as a major selling point for physical media. I'm a big fan of physical media, and buy basically all of my media on BD/DVD/CD, but they typically have very little resale value.

For BluRay, the PS3 is only the way to go at this point if you're also interested in it as a game console. Standalone players have come down in price quite a bit.
