Is Pull Me Under really a good choice for the deep in the set list?

I'm guessing that all of you PMU detractors don't like "No Country For Old Men" either.

Wait... what?

And who is a Pull Me Under detractor?  Just because we might not think it always slays live or is in the best possible spot in the set list doesn't mean we don't like it.

Plus, the No Country for Old Men comment was just bizarre.

I'll never forget the first time I saw them (at Birch Hill Night Club in 1995) I was right up front and the entire show the guy next to me looked like he was completely bored like he wanted to be anywhere but there.  Then towards the end of the show they played Pull Me Under and this guy was flipping out like a complete maniac.  He obviously had heard that song and was a big fan of it but had never heard another note from the band other than that song.  It was pretty funny.

Anyhow, for me I have heard that song & seen it live so much that I honestly would not mind if I never see it live again.  I do agree however that if they do play it, it works better earlier in the set than as a closer or in the encore.

5 best friends arm in arm head banding to PMU at the end of an amazing show put on by our favourite band = how ending with PMU hit us.

5 best friends (pretty much the same friends as last time) all kinda standing around the venue almost bored while their favourite band plays Metropolis, which is their favourite song by their favourite band...

I love Metropolis way more than PMU

but PMU just felt right the 3 times i saw them end sets with it. Metropolis was just kinda "meh"

To be honest, I always find it somehow anticlimactic on live recordings regardless of the placement, but if I were actually there, I'm sure I'd rock my pants off.

I noticed it has been an encore a lot lately, but it seems like an odd choice.  Okay, I know it is their one big hit, and an obvious classic, but it strikes me as a song that works much better early in the set.  I remember how much it slayed having it open the shows on the Awake tour; it a great opener, on CD and live.  On the flip side, I think part of my problem with the Budokan DVD was how anti-climatic it was as the set closer (before the encore).

My two cents: Pull Me Under is much better when played early in the set vs. deep in the set.

I totally agree... it's a shame because when I saw them this year it was in Paris during the European leg at the beginning of this year where they were playing PMU as the encore every time. I would've paid extra to see As I Am or Metropolis as the encore instead but it was still an amazing concert.  :tup

Agreed, but honestly, I'd love it if they tone it down with Images altogether. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this album, it's in my top 3. But the encore deserves a ~10 minutes or longer epic, progressive song, so that rules out Pull Me Under already.

I'm also growing a little tired of Metropolis; it may have had some weird representation in the major DVDs themselves, but with all the official bootlegs, TV broadcasts etc, and of course the amount of times it was actually played live is also just a little bit too much.

There are so many songs that could make amazing closers and they deserve so much more love. Finally Free, Trial of Tears, Scarred, Another Hand / The Killing Hand, The Glass Prison, Blind Faith, In the Name of God, The Ministry of Lost Souls, The Count of Tuscany, A Nightmare to Remember, The Shattered Fortress, The Best of Times...and of course Losing Time / Grand Finale, SDOIT as a whole or any of the other 20 minutes plus epics.

I would love to see ANY of these songs, they would be epic as an encore. While Metropolis is in my top 5 and all these songs are supposedly not (don't have my exact list memorized, yet...), changes are always welcome in a live setting.

The Killing Hand would be killer as an encore. Really great song, and the ending is easily the most stellar moment on WDADU.

But then a lot of people would go "wut?".

Only at the beginning. Then they would likely find it a satisfactory conclusion  :tup

Since it's their biggest hit it's perfectly sensible to play it at the end of this list. This song is like "a goodbye song" to the crowd. But I think it can work well if it's played at the beginning as well.

I still love the song...but live I see it more as a mid-set rally...end a quiet moment/song in the middle section, lights out for a few seconds, then drop into it...the crowd would lose their minds. :metal
