Mike Mangini Media & Info:
"Europe here we come ! And I have my warm clothes :) That menacing virus I got in November affected me until very recently, so I'm being extra careful this time. All is great now and these new sets are going to rock given the addition of some heavy tunes. I'm really looking forward to this tour! See you soon if you're at any shows!"

New set definitely has me excited with some heavy tunes. I remember reading some where on his facebook page he was practicing D.E Night with a double time kick drum pattern rather then just regular. It should be interesting to see what he does with that song if they do indeed play it.

I would love for them to play The Glass Prison, though that is highly unlikely. Scarred would also be quite awesome.

12 step! please

shatter that idea that they can't play MP songs

It's been well documented that JP loves The Glass Prison and The Dark Eternal Night. I wouldn't be surprised if they added both songs to the set for this tour. Also, Octavarium and HELL'S KITCHEN would be amazing additions as well.

I would find it a bit objectionable if DT played the entire 12 step suite without Portnoy, but the individual songs, I feel, should definitely be played. And soon. I NEED to hear TGP live.

No one has ever said they can't play "MP songs."   Don't blame DT for a theory a handful of fans concocted.

Well, actually, lots of people have.  But nobody who actually knows anything, just fans speculating, so I get your point.

EDIT:  Ninja'd by your edit.

Anyway, cool news.

To be honest, we haven't gotten enough ballads in the current setlist.  More heavy tunes are fine so long as they replace the already-heavy tunes.

honor...thy...father?

honestly I wouldn't mind seeing that live...

But I am guessing probably like TGP or TDEN or The Mirror and or Lie would be cool too

cyberdrummer

Home would be amazing. High on my list of DT songs still to see live.

Bongasti

Home! That would be incredible. I just hope that they play at least something from Scenes From a Memory or Six Degrees. And please not TDEN.

Petrucci would have to sing all Portnoy's parts.. or maybe they would use MP's voice sampled, but that would be kinda ridiculous

I'm hoping/guessing they'll throw in LNF.

This would be awesome!

I think we will see one "classic" heavy tune though (not that DT has any classics...)

btw, there was a interview with JLB (that I can't find now, but it was posted here) where he said that the AA suite won't be played (cause of the personal topic)... but I don't remeber the exact wording though, so do not quote this sentence as a source... if anybody remember more keywords in this interview to search for it would be good...

Yes, because the three ballads in the set clearly were not enough.

WindMaster

LNF would be awesome, also The Glass Prison, even though I don't live in the UK.

O God I hope it's not TDEN. One of very few shit DT songs in my book. And why do bands always think they have to play the heavy stuff in Europe?
BAI and BITS need to be there. Hell, just play all of ADTOE.

Hprog

The Mirror is one of my very favorites and I've never heard it live, so I'd love that one, but count me among the fans who speculate on them not playing any more MP penned songs. There might be some legal issues involved. Anyway, in that case I go for Lie and As I Am, which I really like, and this time it won't have the disgusting "eat my ass and balls" they added in 2005 (guess whose idea that was?).

MasterLomaxus

I am sensing Lost Not Forgotten, and Home.  I would love to hear This Dying Soul, or even The Shattered Fortress.

Zook

If there was some legal issue, I don't think MP would have been able to play Hell's Kitchen or the instrumental of Lines In The Sand. Does he get payed at drum off competitions?

If I get to hear 8V I will personally shit your pants and then clean it up dressed in nothing but llama fur.

I want to hear it.

... What?

Jamariquay

Hm. Hoping for some combination of:

The Mirror
Lie
Home
The Glass Prison
Honor Thy Father
The Dark Eternal Night (maybe with JP's original vocal melodies for the verses?)
Lost Not Forgotten

Zook

He said he'd shit in RMV's pants and clean it up dressed in nothing but llama fur.

jcmistat

Well if they come back for another U.S. leg I'll be ready to hear new songs especially LNF!
